Ah, California poppies. They’re starting to appear all over, here. They are beautiful, and oh so fragile.
Nothing to share tonight; tons of work to do, with limited time and energy. Must concentrate on that.
Blessings on all in the new day to come.

If I could only plant one thing it would be tomatoes. There is nothing better than a ripe tomato off the vine.
Z-Mike will probably think I’m crazy but I love to eat mater and mayo sandwiches. I love them so much that if I do add bacon, I just chop it up with the mayo and have mater and bacon mayo sandwiches.

My dad was in the Navy. Everywhere we were stationed he had tomato plants. My parents ate tomatoes at every meal almost. When I was very young, there was a time that I thought I might have been adopted because I didn’t like tomatoes. {snort} Mama said I kept trying them, but the first bite made me gag. I love tomatoes cooked and I use raw tomatoes, but always mixed in with other things. Still can’t bite into one.

I used t be that way too. Only cooked tomatoes for me. My dad had a wholesale tomato business and the only thing in my life I ever could have all I wanted of was tomatoes, but I didn’t like them.
When I was pregnant I wanted them. After three kids, my husband would get a rather desperate gleam in his eyes if I mentioned a tomato. Somewhere along the line I learned to like them.

Why not? My mother did that – in fact, she would eat almost any vegetable right out in the garden, if she could wipe most of the dirt off on her shirt/skirt.

I loved raw carrots when I was a kid and I was always getting in trouble for pulling and eating them. I’d just shake and wipe all the dirt off I could and then eat them.

I grow lots and lots of tomatoes and can them for sauce. Also chop them up and freeze them. Homemade sauce tastes so much better than store bought.

Years ago, a neighbor had those big beefstake tomatoes in her garden. She shared a lot of them with me for several years. I made sauce out of most of them. It was the best tasting sauce I have ever had.

A friend visited me one day when I had plentiful tomatoes from my garden, and I asked him if he wanted a tomato sandwich. He was from “New York City”, and looked at me as if I was crazy.

Imagine serving them beans and cornbread. A couple of cousins about 10 and 12, of a neighbor were visiting from NYC and when we said we were having beans and cornbread they wanted to know what that was. They had never heard of it. So we invited them to dinner. They actually liked it. 🙂 Since we usually had it 3 times a week, I had trouble believing they had never had it before.

Regular people eat what they have/what is in season. My mom used to eat radish sandwiches (another treat eaten right out of the garden with the dirt wiped off).

When my kids were little we had beans and cornbread with tomatoes, and if fortunate, maybe mashed potatoes several times a week during lean times. I also used to cook bacon, eggs, and biscuits and gravy for supper to stretch the budget. Beans and cornbread are good for you. Biscuits and gravy just taste good. 😀

They say it’s a southern thing just like chocolate gravy I guess. That’s what I’ve always been told about both.
My husband grew up in Oklahoma like I did, but his Dad’s side of the family were Okies and his mom’s side were Texans and both of mine were Arkies. He says that’s where I get my strange food from.
Tomato sandwiches he doesn’t find as strange though as chocolate gravy.
My mom said there were times when she was growing up that sliced tomatoes, bread and butter were all they had for supper.

Remembering my childhood and listening to the stories of my parents’ childhood is one of the reasons I get so angry at people today.
They are given food stamps and instead of making them stretch they buy junk food and food they don’t have to cook. They don’t really know what “poor” is and neither do they know what it is to have just enough to eat, much less what hunger is.

My dad was born in 1917. When he was 17, after he graduated high school, he signed up for the Navy. They told him to have a cavity in one of his tooth filled, and come back with a tooth brush, and a pair of shoes. He didn’t have either and told them the reason he was enlisting was because he didn’t. He finally got the Navy to put a temporary filling in that tooth, which was still in that tooth when he died. And, they found him a pair of shoes and a toothbrush, which he had never had before. Yeah, they were poor.

She said the radio alternated from saying there were tornadoes and you were supposed to go to the basement, to saying there was flooding and you needed to go to the second floor. She said she spent the afternoon running from the bathroom in the basement to the second floor and back. There were people who drowned in their basement during that storm.

He and Levin are betting the farm on Ted Cruz, figuring that their loyal audiences with follow what they say. Personally, I think it’s a mistake. Lots of people who used to listen to them have stopped because of the obvious one-sided politicking. Rush, at least, is much more subtle, and does give good analysis.

Good morning, everybody. Sorry I’m late.
Well, last night was a pretty good night. I would have been happier if there had been an even larger vote lead, and perhaps there will be in future states. The results in Michigan may say something about what will happen in Ohio, but only time (and the voters) will tell.
It is important for voters to get out and VOTE when the primary in your state is held. It determines in these proportional states how many delegates the candidate earns. If it is a winner-take-all state, it may determine whether your candidate wins your state, or not.
If any of you are interested, this is how the primary season looked, state by state, in 1980 leading up to the election of Ronald Reagan as President:

Good morning Stella, my rear is dragging about 10 feet behind me this morning.
I had just laid down last night when I thought I heard something. Up on our hill, every sound carries and echoes, especially in my bedroom that is upstairs. I go out and a doe that we had put in a stall because we knew she was real close had somehow gotten out and had twins in the middle of the pasture in the rain. That was right before midnight, by the time I get them all in the barn and in a stall and get the heat lamp on I was wide awake.
So I ended up with 2 hours of sleep, during those two hours another doe had triplets. I thought she only had two, that was all I saw, but then I saw one of the LG dogs carrying something and it was the third one(they will do that with dead babies, remove it so it doesn’t draw prey in). I guess it was born dead or died shortly after being born and she had covered it in straw, which is why I missed it.
I always hate that, probably there would have been nothing I could have done, but you always wonder. Up to 20 babies now though, 12 does and 8 bucks.
I think we only have 4 left to kid, two aborted their kids and the rest were too young to breed this time.
As for voting, I wish people would understand you have to vote and hopefully those in closed states changed their registration. I had two different people tell me that went to vote for Trump and couldn’t after I repeatedly told them they had to change their registration by February 5th and then seemed shocked when Trump wasn’t on their ballot.

Looks like we’re going to have to just go ahead and either dismantle the FBI, or repurpose it to be the FBIWC. Federal Bureau of Investigation of White Conservatives. Because they’re apparently micro-agressing everyone else, and that’s just not cool.

FTA:
The aggressive posture of the FBI under Director James Comey is becoming a political problem for the White House.
The FBI’s demand that Apple help unlock an iPhone used by one of the San Bernardino killers has outraged Silicon Valley, a significant source of political support for President Obama and Democrats.
Comey, meanwhile, has stirred tensions by [TELLING THE TRUTH — taqiyy] linking rising violent crime rates to the Black Lives Matter movement’s focus on police violence and by warning about “gaps” in the screening process for Syrian refugees.
Then there’s the biggest issue of all: the FBI’s investigation into the private email server used by Hillary Clinton, Obama’s former secretary of State and the leading contender to win the Democratic presidential nomination.

They’re Val-u-Rite Vodka™-drinking, self-proclaimed morons, but they’re actually some of the most intelligent, hobo-hunting people on the innertubes.

“hobo-hunting”?
Is there a bag limit, or is it just however many you can tie to the roof of your car?

For the record, I only mount the heads.

I have them shape the lips so there’s a little hole I can occasionally give them a cigarette to put in.

Long-standing Ace/moron joke. Hard to explain the evolution of the comment-section meme, easy to show the genesis:

Basically, “hobo-hunting conservative bloggers” was such a ridiculous and absurd claim by prog bloggers, that this blog (Ace) basically said, “You know what? Let’s embrace it, to show how over-the-top-hysterical prog bloggers are.”
And they went about and did just that.

I give hobos cigarettes, every time they ask me for one. If they ask me if they can buy one off me for a buck I tell them “hell, no! have a smoke.”
I’ve been there.
Now, if y;all will excuse me, I gots to go check the temp on the one in my barrel-grill.
