Iowa secretary of State scolds Cruz over controversial mailers

Oh Oh. Not only is it true, but Iowa’s Secretary of State believes it’s “not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa Caucuses”.

The Hill:

The Iowa secretary of State on Saturday rebuked Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz’s controversial use of a mailer to encourage turnout at the Feb. 1 caucuses.

“Today I was shown a piece of literature from the Cruz for President campaign that misrepresents the roll of my office, and worse, misrepresents Iowa election law,” Paul Pate said in a statement released by his office.

The Cruz campaign sent out “report cards” in Iowa purporting to grade residents and their neighbors on their voter participation in past caucuses.

Formatted to look like an official document, the mailer is marked with the words “voting violation” at the top of the page in a large red box.

“Accusing citizens of Iowa of a ‘voting violation’ based on Iowa Caucus participation, or lack thereof, is false representation of an official act,” Pate continued in the statement. “There is no such thing as an election violation related to frequency of voting.

“Any institution or statement to the contrary is wrong and I believe is not in keeping in the spirit of the Iowa Caucuses,” he added.

This was beyond stupid and I would be furious if something like this was sent to me.

BTW Stella I just read something that ticked me off, I do not like blatant lies. I’ll copy the comment here and am going to see if I can find who said it on AT. Just thought you and Wee and the rest might like to know about lies being spread. I saw it in comments at Trevor Loudon’s blog.

The most obnoxious Trump supporters all wave around Conservative TreeHouse as a source reference, like it is a ‘blankey’.
BUT, on American Thinker, someone posted this information:

“Sundance, aka Mark Ivor Bradman, Conservative Treehouse blog owner- prior to Obama’s 2008 win, Bradman and most of his current admins at the treehouse were major Hillary Clinton supporters on a now extinct blog. He very MUCH wanted a Hillary Clinton presidency in 2008.
He now trashes Ted Cruz on a daily- if not hourly- basis. He trashes American Thinker and Breitbart because they do not trash Ted Cruz.
So forgive me if I am hesitant to follow along with his supporters in a very emotional fever for Trump and everyone else be damned mantra”

CTH has been rabid Trump supporters since he joined the race….but in the head to head match up polls, Trump is the only one who loses to Hillary….Cruz and Rubio both win over her. I don’t know if CTH actually supports Trump….or they want Hillary to still win in 2016!! Hope this helps!

Watching the same people not outraged when Cruz was called a fake Christian now pretend to be outraged by a mailer is, well, horse puckey.

I received one of these mailers in 2012 and 2014 from the Dems, but I read in the Toledo Blade that the GOPe was sending them as well. The difference was, for my mailings, they did not list people’s names, whose addresses are easily found from property records. There was also no implied violations or “follow-up” threat. And, for the record, my gas company does the same thing every three months, listing my gas usage and that of nearby homes, sans addreeses. Those do not work either.

I think the Cruz campaign took it too far. They seemed to use the same tactics that are used on older people, that we are so often warned about, imo. I read the original article from the university who conducted the study. One of those authors also said the Cruz campaign took it too far. I feel sorry for them. One small thing I learned from my vile ex – don’t do things for which you will be sorry.

Does anyone think that there is one single voter who this mailing influenced in a positive way to vote or caucus for Cruz?

People are being paid millions of dollars to come up with ideas like this mailer. And we are supposed to hand our country over to people who make decisions like this.

I often wonder if I’m just an oddball because many things they do turn me off. Like the constant begging for money, does that really make people want to send them money?
      It’s always something similar:
If you don’t send me money I will fail because my opponent is spending millions of dollars.
Do you want your guns, send me money.

The liberal democrats have raised X millions of dollars, if you care about the 2nd amendment, Pro-Life, blah, blah you must donate or we will not be able to compete.

You beg me for money or try to guilt me into sending you money and chances are I’m not sending you a dime, but I might stuff your return envelope and mail it back to you.

Keep it up on my e-mail and if I can’t be removed from your list I send it all to spam.
