I’ve been reading about it for two days. Is this a gesture from the Anglican leadership to satisfy African bishops or is it a genuine step? Will it lead the church to a productive outcome, do you think?

It is Scriptural (Matthew 18:15-17). First, speak privately to the sinner( vss. 15, 16; that’s been happening for [too many, IMO] years), then if that doesn’t work, do something in front of the church (vs. 17a; that’s this current step above ^^^). If there is no change, then expulsion and re-evangelization (vs. 17b). As I do not believe TEC can voluntarily change–too much rot and entrenched sin, although God CAN do anything–I fervently trust and pray that the final step will take place as stated. If it doesn’t, the Anglican Communion as understood will cease to exist.

Most of the Anglican leadership IS the African bishops, and the rest of the leaders in the Global South. Anglicanism is shrinking in the Global North, for reasons such as the one at issue here. Recent Archbishops of Canterbury have been worse than useless about this. We left TEC years ago for this reason, and many others.

Good read. It’s very differ from the RCIA class I am attending as sponsor to a young lady who thinks she wants to convert to Catholicism. The Church, the priests, the instructors, and I myself are all trying so hard to educate her and her class as much as possible so that their choice will be an informed and conscious one.

Even though I converted, I had not ever given a lot of thought to what a difficult task it is to educate one enough to make a wise choice. I commandeered a priest for a year and had one on one instruction, something that is mostly impossible nowadays.

If my faith had to be disclosed in stages, after the door was closed and locked, I like to think it would make me question my beliefs and check their validity.

Morning Menagerie. I’ve been enrolled in RCIA since early fall. Enjoying the class, but wish it were deeper, more rigorous. Four of us are catecumens, the other 3 never ask questions or speak up at all (and then there’s me…). Our priest and deacon lean pretty liberal and ascribe to the don’t-make-’em-uncomfortable philosophy. Priest never wears a collar, we don’t say the confetitor (sp?) at Mass, veiling is discouraged. The class is pablum when I want meat and potatoes. Fortunately I have a great sponsor, a very bright and learned woman. She does far more to educate me than the class, the priest, or the deacon, and I so appreciate it. I hope your sponsee does your efforts as well.

Tundra, as always it’s a two sided coin. The parish I belong to leans extremely traditional in liturgy and practices. The RCIA class has attracted some converts who were very devout Evangelicals and they are very knowledgeable in theology. They consistently teach over everyone’s head. I’ve been Catholic for almost forty years, and I am on their level most of the time, but every once in awhile I have to google their words. Few catechumens speak up. I have privately talked to the lady in charge of the program, asking her to rein them in. I even considered trying another program at another parish, but we are the most traditional in the area, and I am not taking her to a parish where she may not get as complete and accurate teachings of our beliefs.

Our priests almost always wear cassocks everywhere, but especially at parish functions. I have one very important thing I’ll say about the don’t make them uncomfortable philosophy. If your religion doesn’t make you uncomfortable, you either haven’t found the right one, or you aren’t practicing it right. Aside from that, Catholicism does offer parishes with one mass celebrated in various liturgical manners. I would imagine that you might have less of a choice in parishes than I do though.

The Catholic blogosphere is rich with opportunities to learn the faith. And if you haven’t yet watched Catholicism by Father Robert Barron (now Bishop) try to find it at a library or see if your parish has a copy they loan out. Right now his book of the same name is 1.99 on Amazon, but you need to see the videos. The seventh part walks you through the mass, explaining everything, and it is breathtaking. The way he ties everything together not only gives you an understanding of the mass, but oh, to see the great unfolding of God’s timeless plan is…well I had to stop and admit I just don’t have the words. See it if you can. As a bonus, you will get to see some of the most beautiful churches and art work in the world.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply, Menagerie. You are correct that I don’t have many options for parish choice. The church we attend is 14 miles away, the next closest is 25 miles and third is 60 miles. My sponsor tells me that our church used to be much more liberal than it is now, so I guess that’s something.

At RCIA this week we watched a short 12 minute video by Bishop Barron, which I much enjoyed. I will find the longer one you refer to. Thanks for the recommendation.

Again I say, why isn’t the bare breasted feminist militia leading the takedown of these cretins? What actual good is feminism if it only picks on old bishops and little boys? Are they avoiding the real fight, or are they just a bunch of mad psycho women looking for an anthill to kick over?

Sorry for the repetitive comment, but sarcasm aside, I really am angry and baffled that all women, young, old, feminists, stay at homes, professionals, why are they not demanding the full and aggressive protection of the law they pay for with their tax money? The men in my family, and many of my acquaintance, would literally go down fighting rather than see any woman hurt. I fear when the fight gets to my neck of the woods too much of the world will have been lost to placating spineless “leaders” who do nothing but retreat.

A society that does not protect and support its women and girls will not thrive, will not produce the strength and character that knots the world together, and it won’t deserve to.

It’s so funny that all this feminists movement was explained in detail in a book from 1798. Up to that point, women were responsible for children’s education and teaching morals. To destroy Christianity and authority they started attacking the role of women. What we have today is the result of over 200 years of effort.

The bare-breasted feminist militia is currently planning how to most effectively expose their genitaila in front of a bunch of children at the next Folsom Street Fair. Their planning doesn’t go much further than that.

They never gave a half a crap about women. That was always and ever just an act in their sick, baudy play. All they are is sick, demented theater.

Morning, all. Been up since 4. Ugh! May have to take a little nap this afternoon.

We’re at freezing now and it looks like that’s where we’ll be hanging out all day today. We’ll see if I make my goal and have all my see orders placed by Sunday evening. I made my list, now comes the hard part, reducing it down to what I can actually plant. Too many seeds, too little time. 😉

Michael Moore is speaking in Flint today, about the water crisis there. He is calling for the arrest of Governor Snyder. From what I see, many of the people in Flint aren’t interested in him. As one guy said, “He didn’t even bring water.” and went on to say that all Moore wants is to make money from the situation, probably will do a documentary and rake in the cash, but will he help?

News reports always say Moore was born in Flint. The truth is that he was born in a hospital in Flint, but never lived there. He was brought up in a small town called Davison.
