I found that “Socialism: An Economic and Sociological Analysis” by Ludwig von Mises, first published in English 1951 cleared up a lot of obfuscation as to what socialism is, origins, and differences in the branches. von Mises original essays were written in 1922 in Germany.

I highly recommend parents sign their kids up for some of the online classes the Mises Institute offers. Many are tailored specifically for the HS level.

Excellent piece. Thanks for posting. I bought and read Jonah Goldberg’s “Liberal Fascism” several years ago, and it did help me in organizing rebuttal arguments against many Progressives in my extended circle.
Reading Milton Mayer’s “They thought they were Free” outlining how the Germans ended up voluntarily voting for Hitler and giving him what he wanted, in the run-up to the 2008 election, was nauseating and alarming concurrently.
