  2. And he is honest! I truly believe he means what he says and there IS hope.

Once he is elected and in office as President, it is not going to be easy and I do think it will take time to change or undo the past, but who is better? NO ONE.

      1. I chose all the photos for this week last Sunday. I probably should have chosen a Spring themed photo or, better, one for Palm Sunday, but for some reason I chose him/her. I’m glad you like it.

              thingie (cursor) over the picture
and press the right button, you
should see a pop-up box. At
the bottom of the list is the
              word Properties. Click on it
              and you will see another
pop-up and at the top of the
listed info is the name of the
              picture (whatssofunny.jpg?).

    1. Mornin’ Wee!

I already ticked someone off this morning. He was fretting over the fighting at Trump rallies and how uncomfortable it makes him. I told him about the older man who had a Mexican flag put over his head by a younger guy and asked him if he thought people should just take that crap without fighting back?
He said that since people knew they were going to be there, it would be better if they just didn’t go to Trump rallies, all of this violence wasn’t good and makes him uncomfortable.

I told him so people should cower down to thugs and let them win? This coming from a man who talks big and tough about always having his gun and won’t take no s..t? It sounds like more than just liberal men have been neutered and asked him if he was going to force us women to do the dirty work?

That may not have been nice, but I’m getting pretty sick and tired of people whining about the violence when there has been less than a handful of Trump supporters who have committed any kind of violence against the thousands of thugs who are following Trump rallies. Have we become a country of pansies?

Men who always talk tough but now think people should cower in a corner and not upset the thugs.

I bet that hood covered idiot probably said something racist as well to the man. White liberals are the biggest racists there are, next to black thugs that is.

          1. It’s the result of mimic behavior. People copy behavior of others without thinking about it. That includes the “talk tough”. When things actually happen, the real reaction comes out.
People are not taught to think. It’s why all television advertising focuses on emotional imagery.

            1. I guess I’m the product of a different era or at least a different mindset. If I say I’m sick of wuss politicians I mean it and don’t look for a closet to hide in when one comes along.

I’ve been saying about the BLM for a long time people need to run their butts over when they block their way, so if people start doing it I’m not going to feel “uncomfortable.”

I’m old school, sometimes people get what they deserve and learn tough lessons and some people just need a good butt whipping to set them on the right path.

Maybe that’s why I hate commercials and rarely feel the urge to go buy what they’re selling?

                  1. The old SLMPD had a unique nightstick back in olden times. It was usually hickory, about 22 inches long, tapered with a thin iron band at one end. The sergeant’s stick was the same only it was about 30 inches long. (So he wouldn’t have to lean over. More below.)

I remember when I was a police cadet and assigned to the television unit as a cameraman. We where filming a training video with a visiting instructor from the LAPD, John Koga was his name if I recall correctly. Koga was showing new baton techniques and thought it appropriate to use one of the SLMPD sticks in the video. When one of the Academy instructors handed him one of our sticks, Koga took it, looked at for a few minutes with a puzzled look on his face and then said, This looks like a table leg.”

Koga asked why there was a metal band on the end and he was told to keep the stick from splitting. Koga just smiled, apparently assumed the wrong reason for the band. The nightstick goes back to the days when all officers walked a foot beat and the street curbs had metal caps. The supervisor would go to the officer’s beat and strike the metal curb a couple of times and await a reply from the beat officer. If the beat officer did not strike the curb in reply, the sergeant would go looking for him in the local saloons. Our old uniforms had white piping down the pants leg to help the sergeant spot his officers inside said saloon. πŸ™‚

I couldn’t locate any photos of our old nightsticks, however the below photo is of a Mullamphy Street custom made stick, which is a fair representation. These were our of exotic woods and were usually given as retirement presents. However, the one in the photo was apparently carried on duty as evidenced by the rubber stop and leather thong.

For those interested, here is the link to the SLPVA page that has an excellent collections of photos of the PD and other interesting facts.

  10. Good morning! Today has significance for two main reasons – it is Palm Sunday, the beginning of Easter week, and it is the first day of Spring, sort of. Actually, the vernal equinox was late on March 19 in some of the world, but not until early today in the eastern time zone, and officially was 4:30 GMT on March 20, so let’s say that today is the first full day of Spring! It is celebrated throughout the world as a day of rebirth.

Easter, too, is a time of rebirth, so it is perhaps fitting that the first day of Spring and the first day of Easter week fall on the same day. It is the most important time in the Christian calendar, culminating in the celebration of Christ’s Resurrection.

On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem in a triumphal manner, as the Messiah, Christ the King, and was recognized by the people, who greeted him by waving palm branches and putting them in his path and saying, “Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”

    1. Palm Sunday

Hark! how the children shrill and high
      Hosanna cry,
Their joys provoke the distant sky,
      Where thrones and sersaphims reply,
And their own angels shine and sing
      In a bright ring:
      Such young, sweet mirth
      Makes heaven and earth
      Join in a joyful symphony.

If any of my sons ever asked for a “safe” place, think my husband would have probably shown them how dangerous the world can be, seeing as we worked hard to prepare them to be strong and face the world, and all it throws at you. All joking aside, a young man or woman like that would be a real disappointment in our family. Right up there with telling us they were atheist or Buddhist or Democrat.

        3. I once had a young man working for me who actually got mad as heck at me because, although I had told him he could take short smoke breaks, was upset at my definition of short. That and the fact that I wanted him at work on time, and would not allow him to work one handed while talking on his cell phone, caused a confrontation outside that the other workers on the job site quite enjoyed.

This was maybe seven years ago, I was paying him ten bucks an hour, though he was unskilled, teaching him my trade, and giving him a paid lunch break. A guy like this is usually destined for minimum wage.

Having been in management for some years, I can tell you I’d rather hire a 60 year old by far than a 20 year old. I really don’t think that companies who won’t hire seniors, or those approaching their fifties even, are making the best choice. There are good hard working young people out there, but your odds are higher with older people.

Also, Younger people, even college grads, show up in shorts, tees, jeans, and sometimes too revealing clothes on the girls. I consider that not only offensive, but bad judgement. I see no reason to hire people with bad judgement.

I’ve been working closely on jobs with a person that is very intelligent, probably a Red Diaper, and we both know that I’m quite far to the right, and that red is his favorite color for a reason.

He has TDS, naturally. I told him I won’t argue with you, even though we dabble around the edges of political, religious, and societal discussion, because I know my arguments aren’t going to change your mind, and neither are yours going to change mine. I know this fact from years of experience. I told him a debate requires an audience, because of this fact. How many Lib-Con or Atheist-Christian debates have you ever watched where one debater changed the other debater’s mind, and he broke down crying, and said “OMG, I’ve been wrong all my life!”

          None.

          1. Leftists believe that “Speech” is equal to “any action that is intended to convey a message from one to another”.

I told this guy today that speech is words either spoken or written, braille, or in rare cases American Sign Language, Semaphore, or that 80’s thing Stephen Hawking uses.

I said, “Blocking a highway isn’t speech, it’s preventing speech from being heard. Throwing a brick through a bank window isn’t speech. It’s Malicious Destruction of Property. Punching a rally-attendee in the melon isn’t speech, it’s Assault and Battery.”

As soon as I mentioned the bank window, he went on a crazy tangent about corporations being people or something.

I am not intelligent enough to convince him with dialectic. So I just drop seeds.

This has no place in Nevada County. I have spoken with many of my Irish friends, and they do not find this funny in the least.”

Jacinta Gonzalez is originally from Mexico. She is currently living and working in New Orleans. But she traveled to Arizona to protest the Trump rally. The 26-year-old is one of three protesters arrested yesterday for shutting down a highway in Arizona for two hours. Her actions blocked cars from getting to the Trump event in Fountain Hills.

Jacinta chained her neck to a van parked in the middle of the highway.

She is a lead organizer for a group called Congress of Day Laborers, and she is a Soros Justice Fellow. Her accomplishments in helping illegal alien day laborers is highlighted on the Soros funded, Open Society Foundation. Her legal status is unknown.

  20. Latest on the LaVoy Finicum shooting:

Washington Post: Growing Concern About FBI Sniper Actions In Oregon Standoff

The FBI team has been accused of firing at Finicum’s truck, failing to report their shots as required, and actually taking steps to cover their tracks by collecting their spent shell casings:

Last week, Deschutes County Sheriff Shane Nelson, who is overseeing the investigation, said he had concluded that β€œFBI HRT operators fired two shots as Mr. Finicum exited the truck, and one shot hit the truck.” Nelson accused the agents of failing to β€œdisclose their shots to our investigators.”

The five FBI agents have denied firing assault rifles during the incident. But in a recently released interview, an Oregon State Police officer told investigators that he spotted two copper-colored rifle casings near the spot where the FBI agents were standing. The Hostage Rescue Team has used copper- Βcolored casings, former agents said; the Oregon state police use only silver-colored casings. The copper casings were never recovered.

Meanwhile, the Portland Oregonian reported Tuesday that FBI surveillance video taken after the shooting shows the agents searching the area with flashlights and huddling. One of them then bends over twice and appears to be picking up something.

On Wednesday, a law enforcement official confirmed the video account. If allegations of a coverup are determined to be true, the incident would be hugely embarrassing to the FBI and deal a devastating blow to the FBI team’s reputation.

    There’s more ….

    1. I think they meant to kill him all along. He made a lot of sense and actually had more people paying attention to him through the videos he was making than the Bundys. I’m not sure they meant for any of them to come out of that truck alive.

The sad thing is nothing will ever happen to them and it’s doubtful the Bundys and others will get a fair trial.

The Republican candidates will speak at AIPAC beginning at 5:00 pm. Those speaking are Cruz, Kasich, Trump, and Ryan(?????). If you are interested, Hillary Clinton is speaking tomorrow morning; the morning program begins at 8:00 am. Here’s the link for AIPAC: http://www.policyconference.org/

Starting at 8:00 pm, the Presidential candidates from both parties will participate in a CNN event, called the “CNN Presidential Forum”. It runs for three hours, from 8 to 11 pm, hosted by Anderson Cooper and Wolf Blitzer.

The purse for this race is quite substantial. As the winner, Dallas Seavey will get $50,000 and a brand new Dodge Ram pick up truck. In 3rd place, Aliy Zirkle will get $45,000. In 5th place, Pete Kaiser will get $40,000. The payout goes all the way down to 30th place, who gets $2,000.
71 teams completed this year’s Iditarod, and 14 scratched or were withdrawn by the judges.

Congratulations to all the dogs and mushers out there for an outstanding effort. See you next year!

    2. You can’t help but wonder if Aily would have won if that attack hadn’t happened. That had to have affected her at least a little. But, I am glad she came in at least third.

      1. I wonder that too, USmom, and we’ll never know. Dallas beat her 3 other times when there was no attack. But I know that the Aliy I saw in short video clips after the attack was not the hard-fighting, highly competitive Aliy that I know. Something in her spirit was broken by that experience. Not permanently I think (hope), but it will take her some time and processing to get over what she went through. She truly and literally thought the man was trying to kill her and her dogs. There is a profound and devastating sense of personal violation in that. She is in my prayers going forward.

        2. I know this is nothing compared to the attack on Aliy but when I was in the 8th grade I was winning a race and the best friend of the girl in third place jumped out in front of me and immediately got back in line. It shocked me and made me hesitant for the rest of the race because I thought someone else was going to jump out in front of me. I lost the race.

Aliy experienced something truly heart stopping and dangerous and I think that makes you more hesitant for a while, not trusting what is around the corner. I will keep her in my prayers 3rd place. $45,000.00 is something to be proud of. Congratulations Aliy!

            1. Tundra I’m an adult convert to Catholicism, I can never be grateful enough for my RCIA instructor a practicing, faithful priest who was freshly ordained. He and I became very good friends and he became my sponsor and godfather. Coming from a lack of any Christian faith into the Church was a beautiful journey.

I had a problem with Mary due to my ignorance about church teachings. . I told my godfather that I didn’t understand why Catholics used Mary as an intercessory and he gave me a simple beautiful answer. Prayer and my godfather helped me to understand the beautiful path that Mary offers to all of us.

It is not necessary for us to seek God through Mary, just as it was not necessary for Christ to become incarnate through Mary, but if Jesus chose Mary’s flesh to take as his own, if Christ chose Mary as the vessel to come to us, one should hardly be dissuaded from using Mary in approaching Christ. I have always loved this answer.

              1. And we don’t always pray through Mary, but some things you just want your Mother in on! I really love to pray the rosary for my family and my grandchildren. Other reasons too, but when my concerns for my family are pressing, I find great comfort in Mary.

                1. lovely and Menagerie, thank you both for your comments. I, too, love your godfather’s explanation. The love and reverence that Catholics hold for Mary is something new to me as someone raised Protestant. It is wonderful. I love the feeling I have in saying the Hail Mary. It’s different from the Our Father, which I also love. Praying the rosary is a challenge for me just yet; I have the bones of it, but not the soul. Through Mary I feel more connected to my own dearly beloved mother who passed away about a year ago.

                  1. Tundra, try a rosary on YouTube. There are a gazillion, and you can find one that has the images that help you meditate. I like the Passion of the Christ one for the sorrowful mysteries. Also I often start the last decade, the crucifixion, by thing of the wounds on his head, hands, and feet for the first three, and repeating the seven last words for the last seven. Also, audible has a great recording that I use in the car.

                    Hope that helps.

I think I’m going to start a blog soon, a post RCIA and just general faith, religion, and whatever we feel like kind of place. Stella has been suggesting I should start a blog, and I’m feeling pretty excited about it.

            2. Tundra, I will tell you what my godfather told me. Make your rosary intention that you develop a passionate love for the rosary.

I have a lovely rosary story.

John Vianney was known for his piousness and his generosity to both “saint” and “sinner. A woman who decided that she was counted as a saint came to him to recite the sins of some of the townswomen. She no sooner told him about a terrible deed that another woman committed than John Vianney said “That is terrible, let us pray for her and walk.”

He prayed the full 15 decade rosary and would not allow the woman to interrupt as he knew she was as concerned as he was for the soul of the woman of whom she spoke, and he did not want her to sin against charity.

They finished the decade and the saintly woman, none the wiser, recounted the sin of another woman, Vianney repeated the process πŸ™‚ .

The woman never told him the sins of others again.
