      Maranhao, Brazil

      The Itapecuru, Munim, Parnaiba, and Peria Rivers create the natural borders of the park along with the Sao Jose Basin. The majority of the park is comprised of rolling coastal sand dunes with layers of impermeable rock located below the dunes and valleys. This layer of impermeable rock prevents the low spots from drainage creating natural freshwater pools from the rainfall.

        There ar certainly some magnificent things to look at in S. America. The Andes must be younger than the Rockies, they are so craggy.

          Looked it up: The Andes are far older than the Rockies, Himalayas and Alps, but younger than the Urals. The Appalachians are oldest. The Rockies were formed on top of an older mountain chain. There, now we know.

              You’re welcome, Reflection! Our Lord certainly created a beautiful natural world along with the natural laws, to be enjoyed and exclaimed over by all. And along with that He made us humans to be creative in our own right, resulting in wonderful cities and parks, gardens, artworks, etc., both past and present.

            Thanks, czarina, for the info. Who Knew re the Appalachians being the oldest? One of my nephews would have known since he’s in the land/forestry management business.

                  The Plates never stop moving(they’re busy pressing dead carbon lifeforms into petroleum). Pangea was the second super continent that we know of and it will happen again. It is for that exact reason what we call the magnetic north pole moves roughly 5 centimeters a year, Europe gets 5 centimeters closer to North America and the very same holds for the Pacific Ocean as well. As one plate moves under the other the continents move dragging humanity with it.
                  As for mountain ranges, the reason Europeans seemed so technologically ahead of the natives of the “New World” has more to do with mountain ranges than anything else. The Alps run east to west allowing the flow of information and technological advances from the Asia’s to Europe with relative ease.
                  The Americas are divided North to South making the transfer much more difficult. The first wave arrived in North America during the Ice Age and we forced south along the western shore. As the ice receded and they began to migrate north and intersected with the second wave (what we know as native Americans) coming over the Bering Straight before the final thaw.

              Lucille, much to my surprise, I had an unexpected reaction to the Rockies when I realized a long, long time dream and saw them about almost 10 years ago now.

              Traveling across flat Eastern Colorado, it seemed to me the Rockies thrust themselves up so suddenly from the flat, very flat earth. They seemed brash and young and audacious with bold and striking beauty.

              I’ve loved my Smokies all my life, but I just knew the Rockies were the mountains I’d been waiting for all my life. And they were.

              They were all I’d hoped for, and more. And they let me come home happy and smiling, and even more in awe of, and appreciative of my grand old Smoky Mountains, and the foothills surrounding them. Although you won’t find my area listed officially as foothills, to me it’s almost impossible to consider East Tennessee anything but a frame for the grandeur of the Smokies.

              They feel old. They have a very different feel to them, to me. They are full of mystery and hidden glens and coves, with streams and seeps. Draped in the fog they are named after, I find them at their best on rainy days. They are verdant and lush, and at least it seems to me that they have so much more wild and dense growth than the Rockies do.

              Anyhow, forgive the fancies of an old woman, but for anyone who can, one of life’s best pleasures is a trip through the Smokies. Someday I hope to explore much more of the Appalachians than I already have, but so far, the Smokies hold my heart of all the parts of Appalachia I’ve visited.

                Hi, Menagerie! What a lovely experience for you. I had a similar feeling going up and up Mount Hood in Oregon. It was magical.

    Afternoon, All. Got busy this morning looking for new apartments. I talked to a woman who lives in the complex that I had found cheap apartments listed in. She says she knows of no cheap places in it. I called one place that I had a number for and talked to the manager and even though there is an opening, it is $1,000 a month. I told her about the ad I saw on the website and she was going to look at it. Anyway, I called the church pastor and talked to the church secretary and she is going to see what she can find about apartments that might be available by people at the church.

    I checked one place that I had gotten on the waitlist last year and I am number 250. I asked her if she thought I had any chance of getting an apartment before I died. She laughed and said that she usually goes through 30 people on the list for each apartment that comes available. Anyway, I am trying.

    Have a nice day and be safe from that weather.

    I know how much everyone loves Gen. Mark “Thoroughly Modern” Milley, so you may want to take a couple minutes to read up on his likely replacement. Never, ever say…..it can’t get any worse, because you will be wrong. This will set the military back another 100 years with his brilliant ideas on how to create equity at the top. 😦

    If I get a speeding ticket or roll through a stop sign, I will be required to appear at a specific time and place. That inconvenience will, as of tonight, no longer be visited upon the illegal aliens who are walking across the border.

    It’s a done deal. No need to have concerns any longer about “what’s going to happen”.

    It’s happening. And will continue to happen. And we will all, from here on out, be dealing with the consequences of lawlessness at ever level of government.
