          Yes, but it was a settlement made as a result of a suit filed against him. It wasn’t private, and it wasn’t during a campaign. Since Clinton wouldn’t be running for office again when the payment was made, it couldn’t be classified as a campaign finance violation, which is what Trump is being charged with.

          Paula Jones wasn’t a hooker, and didn’t have sex with Clinton. The details as described by Wikipedia:

          In a declaration sworn under penalty of felony, Jones alleged that, on May 8, 1991, while working on official business in her capacity as a state employee of the AIDC, she attended the Annual Governor’s Quality Conference at the Excelsior Hotel in Little Rock. Jones alleged she was asked by an Arkansas State Police Trooper to report to Arkansas Governor Clinton’s hotel room in the Excelsior Hotel (now the Little Rock Marriott), where Clinton propositioned and exposed himself to her. She claimed she kept quiet about the incident until 1994, when a David Brock story in The American Spectator magazine printed an account. Jones filed a sexual harassment suit against Clinton on May 6, 1994, two days before the expiration of the three-year statute of limitations, and sought $750,000 in damages.

      We were 33* at dawn, to be 50’s and sunny all day, but 28* tomorrow morning. Then will warm to 85* by next weekend. Have to put the sprinkler on my blueberry bushes or I’ll lose the crop tonight.

        I hate when that happens to fruit trees and bushes! Here in the north it’s too early to be concerned about it. I hope you are able to protect them. Is there any way you can throw sheets over them?

          Too tall and bushy. Sprinklers cover the plants with warmer (65*coming out of the ground) water, so long as they run till the temps rise above 32*. Orange growers protect trees successfully.

    Afternoon All. Just got back from church. It is 36*and very sunny out. The roads are all clear of snow and ice and I am finally getting to go over to my kid’s house again. It is supposed to snow again this Friday and maybe over the weekend. We may be back where we started. :\

      There are two main federal laws related to organ selling:

      42 U.S. Code 274e prohibits the purchase of human organs, including any organs derived from a baby, for the purposes of human transplantation. If fetal tissue is used for research purposes rather than be transplanted into a living human, this law most likely does not apply.

      42 U.S. Code 289g covers the prohibitions regarding human fetal tissue and states that, “It shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly acquire, receive, or otherwise transfer any human fetal tissue for valuable consideration if the transfer affects interstate commerce.” This law also prevents the solicitation of fetal tissue for transplantation and the “solicitation or acceptance of tissue from babies gestated for research purposes.”

      What this means is that a buyer cannot solicit fetal tissue for transplantation or use tissue from a baby that is known to have been created solely for the purpose of aborting the baby and extracting its tissue and/or organs. But this seems to cover only human tissue that was acquired when the pregnancy was “deliberately initiated to provide such tissue.” Tissue donated after an abortion for research purposes appears to be completely legal under federal law.

      In each of these laws, the term “valuable consideration” does not include “reasonable payments associated with the transportation, implantation, processing, preservation, quality control, or storage of human fetal tissue.”

      It may be the only way that prosecution can occur is if the organs are sold for profit.

    Stella,

    I wanted to post some beautiful glass work today.

    It seems almost inappropriate to post something beautiful after that horrific report.

    It stands for the worst: “steal, kill and destroy”. Then, to make merchandise out of it, is another level of repugnant.

    Are the aborting mothers told of this? Shouldn’t they be? They’re paying for the abortions. (Although there may be a clause about the disposal of the aborted fetus.)

    Last evening as I continued going through my papers and mounds of things saved over the years, I ran across a few treasured items which are shared here. Most of the messages are from loved ones, whether they were pals, boyfriends, bosses or family….and most have passed away. But all make me weep, for different reasons, with different emotions.

    One message included a small card of dried flowers purchased in Bethlehem and given to me by the mother of my best woman friend. Sally (1911-2007) was such a darling and always so thoughtful. When she lived next to her parish church, she went to Mass every morning.

    Another is a note on my boss’s letterhead note paper. It was for Christmas in the late 1970s, and my dearest Lou (1933-2020) gave me a day at a spa, saying in prose form…”Treat the most important and bestest to the care and touch that’s best in the Westest…with a day off to boot. This is better than loot for one who deserves the pamperest.” Lou had such a wonderful sense of humor, was even-tempered, generous, and loved his family dearly.

    Then there’s a letter written when my sister, Carol (1940-2003), stayed with Mom and me for a week in 1986. She thanked me for items given to her during her visit and especially for inviting her to join me at work for one day. Please indulge me when I quote her, as it means so very much to me: “I got my wish in being able to work with you. I might add, you are the embodiment of the standard I wish to achieve in my work. Two words describe it: Efficient thoroughness.”

    Next, for a bit of levity, there is a note written to myself relating the heights of various male singers…Eddie Fisher, 5’5″; Bobby Darin, 5’9″; Dean Martin, 5’10”; Andy Williams, 5’7″; Perry Como, 5’6″; Johnny Mathis, 5’7″; Frank Sinatra, 5’8″; Elvis Presley, 6’0″; Gene Kelly, 5’7″; The Beatles: John, 5’10”; Paul, 5’11”; George, 5’10; Ringo, 5’6″. I have no idea if the numbers are all correct but apparently looked up the info for some reason many years ago.

    Finally there is an insightful quote which is probably the best secular advice ever given me:

    “Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.”

    ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL

        Thank YOU, czarina! I have to keep a box of tissues sitting next to me when going through all this personal memorabilia.

        Chests full of my parents’ memorabilia, including their fun-to-view school year books, have already been sent to my oldest nephew. Those were really hard to go through also. It’s best for me to do it rather than burdening him with it all.

      Thank you for sharing that, Lucille, it was delightful and touching. Love the note about the singers’ heights! I know all those names from my childhood in the 50s and 60s; I had no idea so many of them were short guys. Elvis was the only six footer on your list. It is wonderful that you have the mementos to go through. After multiple hurricanes, floods, and the house burning down when I was 10, our family didn’t have a lot of memorabilia left. And I have moved so often in my adult life, the paring down process was nearly continuous. And I was too broke to collect much before I was 40. Enjoy your memories; they are truly a blessing, tears and all.
