G’day, Pa! Yes, indeedy, July is flying. It’ll be Halloween before we know it and then the steady slide to New Years. Let’s pray that November 8th will bring us a humongous celebration. I keep seeing folks reminding us not to get cocky and think it’s in the bag.

Mornin’ All. Beautiful morning here. Cool and sunny. Going to choose a new Med. Advantage plan this morning so It can start the 1st of the month. I discovered last night that my sliding glass door doesn’t lock. I thought it did, but after multiple tries I could not make it lock. I thought my son had locked it, but I wonder now. Going to have dinner with my kids later in the day. So, I will be busy. Hope you all have a great day.

Mornin’ Mom! Get you a broomstick or rebar rod cut to fit down in the slot – then it can’t be opened.

I have one cut for my last place but the sliding glass doors were 8′ wide, these are 6′, I think. So, I will have to do that. But, I a angry that the lock doesn’t seem to work, or at least, can’t be latch. I think my son might have been able to do it, but I can’t. Either way, I will get a stick cut down to put in it.

Hi, aus! Too bad the people who moved out didn’t tell management the lock either doesn’t work at all or is finicky. Be safe!

I love this live camera feed at Port Huron, MI…beautiful at any time of the day…the houses and trees are so very appealing…the whole scene is calming….

Yes, it definitely helped me to figure out how the two countries were situated and what flowed to where. I’d never heard of Lake St. Clair or the river until I started watching the live feed.

I used to sail around there often in the distant past! In May, took the sailboat from the Edison boat club on the Detroit River, through Lake St. Clair and the St. Clair River up to Port Huron, then on to Port Sanilac, and Caseville (on Saginaw Bay). Back again in the Fall.

The boat, an Irwin 42′ sloop, didn’t belong to me, but I sailed on her often.

What great fun for you, Stella! Forty-two feet is really such a nice size for a sailboat. Wish I’d learned to sail when the opportunity arose as a young woman. Mom’s younger brother’s second and most satisfying career after education was to own a yacht sales business. When he first started his business, he and my aunt sold their house and lived full time on their 38 foot sailboat. Both were expert sailors. Some really fond memories being on the ocean with family.

By the way, that’s the Blue Water Bridge to Sarnia, Ontario. The St. Clair River is the borderline between the U.S. and Canada. One time (they probably don’t allow it any longer) we took a hop on a ferry boat near St. Clair, MI over to a small island in Canada (it might be an indian reservation) and back. Minimal customs. We walked around for a bit, then took the ferry back to the U.S.

As you can see, the big freighters go through here. This is the shipping channel that takes the big ore carriers etc. from Lake Michigan/Superior/Huron over to Lake Erie, and eventually to the Atlantic Ocean. Lake St. Clair is actually extremely shallow except where the channel is dredged for the big ships.

The Great Lakes-St. Lawrence River waterway is the longest inland deep-draft navigation system in the world, connecting more than 110 commercial ports in Canada and the United States.

That’s a good map. Thanks! Likely most kids born in the 1940s and 50s learned about the St. Lawrence River waterway in grammar school. And the way we remembered the names of the Great Lakes was to think of “homes.”
