Good morning everyone. Rain’s coming this afternoon, temps have been around 70. My husband did the yard work last night for what we hope will be the last time, since we are supposed to get our first freeze Sunday night.

Things that should never have been popular in the first place place are coming around again. I hated every decor trend in the eighties, but especially those nauseating pastel colors. Okay, I admit to not being a pastel devotee, but come on, there are some beautiful shades of pastels that are light and uplifting, but those colors so popular around the mauve/teal palette all had fleshy undertones that just made me sick. Anyhow, I won’t be re-decorating.

What is your favorite color/style? I learned to tread very carefully when working with customers on colors because taste is not wrong or right, and everyone’s home should showcase their taste and style. But most people can’t look at colors and see the base tones underneath, and that’s what affects your mood.

When I see pastel shades in pure, not muddy tones, colors we see at Easter, in spring, for example, I find them cheerful and uplifting, hopeful, youthful. Mauve and teal can be in that range, but unfortunately most of the ones used in the eighties had beige-peach undertones that mudded them up. Reminded me of funeral home decor.

As I’ve gotten older I have kind of gravitated to things I think are more fad proof. But effectively I guess what that boils down to is sticking with things I love. My favorite colors are specific shades of blues and greens, and consequently, our new house has quite a bit of blue in it. Later, when I add some easy chairs or change curtains, I’ll add in more green. And the walls will stay a shade called paper white, which has a teeny hint of a blue-green in it, just enough to take it out of the bright white range.

Mornin’ Menage, Pa, and everyone. Our last day at the beach. It is supposed to rain today and I hope it does. Earlier in the week they were saying it would rain on Friday, which would mean we would be driving home in the rain. It was nice yesterday, but II don’t know how cool it is outside this morning because our door to the patio won’t open. And, it takes forever and 3 or 4 phone calls to get maintenance here.

I prefer blue and greens together, but also a lot of colors in small amounts that go together. I tend to go for patterns that can go together.

This reminds me of the color “champagne-beige” which I always thought as mediocre! LOL

In my own home, my favorite room color is in the bathroom. It is a light green/blue set off by white trim. I guess it similar to what they sometimes call “spa” green, but with a bit more blue in it.

Our old house was white in every room. Czar liked white, including white dishes (“doesn’t clash with the food”). When we built the new house I painted every wall and all the ceilings all the same sunny, slightly orange tinted yellow. Czar wanted an office in camouflage colors (you understand). The white walls gave me license to change the interior fabric colors at will, which was freeing. In the yellow house I have kept to fall colors. I did not like harvest gold or avocado green, never got any French Country mauves. My mother had my dad paint the refrigerator pink like Mamie Eisenhower did. I like true, jewel colors: ruby red, emerald green, sapphire blue.

I agree with Czar about white dishes. A few years ago I bought myself a set from Crate & Barrel, and I love it! It goes with every table setting and you can jazz it up with different color or patterned salad plates.

Agreed. I got Crate and Barrel dishes when we moved here, also white, and I love them too. My only problem is I bought some nice casseroles and cooking dishes and I won’t use them because they are pretty. I have a buffet that has glass in the top of the doors, so I put the dishes there. It’s very striking in the black buffet.

I love the jewel toned colors too czarina. I always thought that would have looked striking in our cabin.

  7. I’ve been trying to find video of President Trump’s speech at Mar-a-lago two days ago, without success. Nothing here or at the Treehouse, even RSBN has nothing. Did find this YouTube, 30 minutes long, which seems to have most of the speech as audio with an endless collage of photos as video. Has anyone seen a better recording of the speech? I believe it was an RNC fundraising event.
