Gratitude lacking: Afghan interpreter who saved Biden in Afghanistan is now stranded there

Then-Sens. Chuck Hagel, Joe Biden and John Kerry in Afghanistan on Feb. 20, 2008.

NEW YORK POST

An Afghan interpreter who helped in the 2008 rescue of then-Sen. Joe Biden and two other senators from a valley in Afghanistan was among the thousands left behind as the commander-in-chief pulled US troops out of the embattled nation, leaving it in the hands of the Taliban.

Mohammed, whose last name has not been revealed as he is still in hiding, gave a message for President Biden through the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday.

“Hello Mr. President: Save me and my family,” he said. “Don’t forget me here.”

The interpreter is hiding from the Taliban after attempting to escape Afghanistan for years. He and his family are among the many Afghan allies who were unable to evacuate the country by the time US troops completed their full withdrawal Monday evening.

In 2008, Mohammed was a 36-year-old interpreter working with the US Army when two US Army Black Hawk Helicopters carrying Biden and Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.) were forced to land in the mountains due to a snowstorm.

After landing, the crew requested assistance and Mohammed responded with a Quick Reaction Force from the 82nd Airborne Division, driving hours to rescue the senators. According to soldiers, Mohammed was a part of over 100 firefights in the valley.

. . .

The interpreter and his family reportedly attempted to evacuate by going to the Kabul airport gates, where he was told by US troops that he could get in, but not his family.

Ungrateful bastards! Biden and Kerry, in particular.

As thousands rushed to flee the country before the deadline, US troops helped evacuate 79,000 civilians on US military aircraft since Aug. 14 — including 6,000 Americans and 73,500 Afghans and third-country citizens, according to US officials.

Evacuation efforts were briefly halted last Thursday when an ISIS-K suicide bomb attack shook the Kabul airport, killing 13 US service members and nearly 200 Afghans. Evacuation flights resumed Friday morning. Several hundred Americans remain in the embattled country following the withdrawal, according to the Pentagon.

Exclusive: Biden Officials at Kabul Airport Warned American Rescue Plane To Turn Back or Be Shot Down

A private airplane that was flying into Hamid Karzai International Airport (HKIA) in Kabul, Afghanistan to rescue stranded American citizens and Afghan allies allegedly was told to turn back or they would be shot down.

In the past 24 hours, American officials in charge of giving clearance at the airport told fellow Americans they would be fired upon if they didn’t leave, Mary Beth Long, a former Department of Defense official, told American Greatness in an exclusive interview.

The plane ended up landing elsewhere in Afghanistan, she said. Now Americans are reportedly being advised to leave Kabul completely as the Taliban is expected to start rounding people up after the last of the U.S. military leaves.

Long, who was responsible for Afghan security policy from 2005-2008, and operated a business office in Kabul from 2010-2017, has been actively involved with the rescue efforts in the country. She wrote about “The Chaos and Confusion in Kabul” eight days ago in American Greatness.

Some American citizens, she said, have made the perilous journey to HKIA four times, only to be turned away at the gates each time. As a result of the Biden Administration’s inexplicable actions, some members of the military, and other officials have “gone rogue” and taken matters into their own hands, Long said. . . .

You know, it’s very hard NOT to believe that all those people were deliberately left behind.

      As trophies of war, perhaps…

I don’t apologize for thinking this. The amount of evil displayed is staggering.

This is being reported on all of our local news.

The call to the U.S. ambassador to Tajikistan came in Monday. On the line, two U.S. officials said, was Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) with an unusual and urgent request: He needed assistance in transporting a huge amount of cash into the country, saying he was going to neighboring Afghanistan to rescue five American citizens, a woman and her four children, stuck in the country. They planned to hire a helicopter for the effort.

Mullin told the embassy that he planned to fly from Tblisi, Georgia, into Tajikistan’s capital, Dushanbe, in the next few hours and needed the top diplomat’s help, according to the two U.S. officials familiar with the incident, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to disclose private conversations about a sensitive matter.

The answer was no. Embassy officials told Mullin they could not assist him in skirting Tajikistan’s laws on cash limits on his way to visiting one of the most dangerous places on earth.

As of late Tuesday, U.S. officials said they were unsure of Mullin’s location. Mullin’s office did not respond to multiple requests for comment.
