I finally realized what the posts in the green area are: recently planted trees! Probably cypress, since they tolerate the brackish to salty water and will improve costal protection from hurricanes. Grand Isle is eroding away and needs all the help it can get.

History Channel aired a documentary special about Chicago’s St. Valentine’s Day Massacre in 1929 when seven guys were machine-gunned dead inside a garage. Only seven gangsters were murdered in one day? It’s proof once and for all that Chicago was safer when Al Capone ran the city.

Hey, this is us! Finally, good news politically, judicially, here in my hometown. Which is a liberal sewer usually, and drives me crazy because I got spoiled in my former little Georgia hometown where people knew what was up and put the effort into the fight.

There’s no doubt that Bide-Harr-handlers, et al. is simply throwing whatever they want at the wall and watches what sticks. They’ll simply move on with their playbook of destruction.

Not too good Lucille, but the pain is bearable. I’ll find out Monday if I’m a candidate for ankle replacement, which I am not nearly ready to give in to. But I want to know if it is a possibility for me as the ankle continues to deteriorate.

Mornin’ All. Weather the same. They say a tropical storm may come across us this weekend. Whaltever. Yesterday, my friend and I went to the gun range and picked up her gun and fired ours. I bailed after just a little because I can’t stand the loud noise inside even with ear plugs and the ear muffs on. We have decided to find an outdoor range if possible. After that, we went to the Outback and had lunch. And, then, played cards the rest of the afternoon. So, it was a fun day. Today, I need to do some cleanup. So I had better get started. Hope everyone has a good day………….with no more accidents.

I forgot to mention that I got a call yesterday. I didn’t know who it was and don’t usually answer but I was on the phone just before it came and for some reason answered it. It was a man with a very nice masculine voice and he was very well spoken. He was calling about money for Nunes and I told him I support Nunes but I wouldn’t give anything to the National Republican Committee. He hung up. I thought that was funny.

I don’t imagine Devin will have any problems getting re-elected. His constituents know and trust him. He’s a very worthy recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom and I’m so glad that was one of the final honors our President gave before his first term ended.

This summer has been hysterically busy for me and my dear hubby. I’m back to reading here every day, just haven’t commented. It is so good to see all y’all’s regular input. I love Lucille’s pictures and links, mom’s daily weather reports from Florida (so different from Alaska), Czarina’s gentle encouragements to all of us and reminders of dear czar (rest in peace, brother), Menagerie’s spiritual strength and guidance and family love, of course Stella’s masterful management of this beloved place we all think of as an internet home. It is so good to have a pause in the summer activity to enjoy what I’ve been missing! Here’s a short (!) recap of what DH and I have been up to.
We started in mid June with a 2 week visit from the biological sister we didn’t even know he had until last December. Both were adopted as very young children, raised as “onlys” by their adoptive families, and neither knew the other existed until Ancestry.com informed us. That was life-changing for both of them. Regular phone calls ensued until we felt like we sort of knew her, so of course had to meet. The possibilities for disaster were huge on both sides when we invited her to come and stay with us. What if we hated her? What if she hated us?
We were all a bit reserved and polite the first few days. But as we relaxed some, politics became the prominent topic it usually is around here. She suddenly blurted out “I’m a democrat and I HATE Donald Trump!” Whoo-eee, alrighty then! I think she was surprised when we didn’t tell her to pack her bags and leave. We asked her why she hated Trump and all she could say was some sputtering about the awful way he treats women (!). We let it go and didn’t press her, but did ask questions about other liberal hot-button topics, and decided she’s probably a lot more conservative than she thinks she is. But she’s lived in deep blue Connecticut for 30 years and mostly doesn’t care about politics. And doesn’t think too deeply about what she hears on teevee. We think she’s red-pillable, so we’ll work on that.
A week after she left, my dearly beloved (and conservative!) cousin came up from Alabama for 3 weeks. We took the RV out for a week of camping and did lots of other stuff with her. She flows seamlessly into the energy here and it is a joy to have her.
Three days after she left, DH and I flew down to Washington State to see dear old Tundra Dad, who is 91 years old and getting really frail. We stayed a week and had a lovely visit, but it was exhausting for a number of reasons. We were truly glad to get home.
And now I’m counting the days until next Wednesday when I’ll have shoulder replacement surgery. Pain is constant and debilitating, and the surgeon believes it will be much improved after surgery. Nearly anything is better than what I’ve got now! This will be my 13th orthopedic surgery, and all the others made vast improvements in my poor joints. Those of you blessed not to have devastating arthritis are luckier than you know. All prayers appreciated on the 18th!
Anyway, enough for now. Hope it wasn’t TMI, but now you know why I haven’t been around much since June. I’ve missed you all and am glad you’re mostly well. Those of you in the warmer climes, eat some gorgeous tomatoes and peaches and white corn for me, okay?

The “riffles” area of Brooks River in Alaska’s Katmai National Park is just 100 yards downstream from Brooks Falls–and it’s a favorite spot of mama bears, their cubs, and young sub-adult bears.
The seagulls crack me up.

Thanks Lucille! I love watching the bears at Katmai. I’ve always wanted to go over there and see them in person, but it’s reeeeeally expensive to do so. A charter flight on a small float plane is the only way to get there, and that’s about $900 per person for a 6-hour trip out of Homer. Until I win the lottery, I’ll settle for watching livecam video!

You’re welcome, Tundra! Yes, indeed, on the lottery. On some of the videos you can hear the people talking in the background. I’m amazed the bears and wolves tolerate it, though the wolves come out mostly at night when no humans are around.
The wolves are so scrawny they look more like coyotes, and have their tailed tucked. Of course face-wise they look wolfy.

Sounds like you have had a busy summer so far!
I was united with a half brother about ten years ago. I knew my dad had two sons from a previous marriage, but never knew their names, where they lived etc. My brother Glenn was 16 years older than me, and we formed a friendship; he visited me and I visited him. I don’t think it was the same as growing up with a brother, but I’m glad that I got a chance to know him. We met via Ancestry.com too (not dna though).
I will be praying for you as you have surgery. I could use knee surgery, but have held back because I live alone, and don’t know how I would manage after surgery.

Knees can sure be pesky buggers, can’t they? A right knee replacement is in my not-too-distant future as well, I’ve just been putting it off as long as possible. Hoping to make it another year so my shoulder has time to heal up first. Having help makes all the difference, don’t know how I’d have managed without DH.

Right side. And I am sooooooo right hand dominant. Even feeding myself with my left hand will be a challenge. Along with brushing my hair, and my teeth. Hoping for really fast recovery of at least some use of the right hand, even if elbow must remain firmly tucked at my side.

“…we got back from the jungle last night. Hundreds sick, injured, and dying. Biden immigration policy is killing thousands of people outright.
“The trip was a little dangerous this time but we made it without losing anyone. When we started in the dugout canoes for a three-hour river trip into the Darien jungle, the river was flooding with trees and all sorts coming down.
“Rain was about as heavy as rain gets. Tremendous lightning with many strikes flash-to-bang just a second or two. Loud. Bright. But we headed up and the rain stopped just as we finally made it to the village three hours later.
“Migrants are dying. Was terrible.
“I am back in Panama City.”
