Stellars…not something you see every day–residences of heads of state…

    Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi, India…

    Bessastadir, Reykjavik, Iceland…

    Palacio da Alvorada. Brasilia, Brazil…

    Have an interesting day!

Morning all, happy Sunday. Going to be a great day here, cooking beans with ham hocks all day. Then we will have a summer feast with okra, squash, tomatoes, mashed potatoes, and squash relish along with a big ole slab of corn bread for supper. Loosen the belts!

Great! My brother asked for turkey hash just like Mama used to make: left over turkey, Pepperidge Farm Herb Stuffing, celery, onions, sage sausage, with turkey gravy poured over and baked. Petit Pois peas on the side. Waldorf salad.

I say this every year, and every year I’m more enthralled. I’ve been in Eucharistic processions and it is just awesome, but this is the coolest of all. One of the days Louisiana here I come.

Mornin’ All. Hot, humid, and sunny here. I had ordered two lights and two solar radios in case of emergency, and Amazon delivered them yesterday. Unfortunately, they don’t knock on the door, or at least knock loud enough to hear and it started raining, pouring, and the boxes were sat up against the building. The gutters need to be cleaned so it is like somebody holding a hose on you all across the stoop at the door. The boxes were soaked with even the inside boxes being wet. Nothing was damaged, but I sure was annoyed. They will hear from me today.

Let’s all hope that today is a better day for us all.

Good afternoon, aus! Wow, that is annoying to the max! My boss used to say that if you are in a service industry, efficient and accurate service is your top priority. Are businesses afraid to teach that anymore?

Whenever I have smallish items to be delivered, I put a somewhat waterproof wheeled carrier out with a sign instructing deliverers to place items in it. Works, but to be completely waterproof, the delivery person has to zip up the bag. That doesn’t happen.

We put a blue bin with a snap on top at the start of the driveway. Lots of locals do. Out here the PO, UPS & FedEx people are glad to put things in rather than have to transit the 800’ driveway. They close it tightly and everything stays nice.

Great idea, czarina. I’ve seen the bins advertised.

One of the things I’ve always done since having a home computer is to keep a listing under a Word document of all expected deliveries. It’s set up by delivery date so that I know what’s arriving each day of the week. I also check for updates and input that info. Thus I’m seldom caught by surprise and can place my wheeled carriers on my porch in a timely manner.

Funny, but this is the first time in 10 years that I have had this happen. They used to knock on the door hard enough to make me open it. They must be trying to be too fast now.

There were really great delivery people in Vancouver, WA when I lived there. The same people would almost always deliver and I knew them by name. They always rang the doorbell and had me sign for packages. Signing is a seldom offered assurance of delivery anymore.

I’m in a dispute right now with FedEx. When I order from Walmart problems are a rarity. But on Thursday I received an email that my expected package had been delivered…which, unfortunately, was NOT the case. I went around to all the apartments in my section that had packages on their front patios in case it had been mis-delivered. Nada. FedEx’s website continued to have the package listed as delivered.

So I contacted Walmart and they were super, taking down all the info and sending me a link to the company which fulfilled my order. I had to wait 48 hours and the contract company emailed me that FedEx had it listed for delivery on Monday and were blaming their computer for the mistake. I’m not sure that holding my breath for a Monday delivery is advisable, though.

That has happened several times to me with Amazon deliveries – usually it is the USPS’s fault. They show something as delivered in the computer when it is not.

When I lived in L.A. and had items delivered to the house, some of the packages would be slit open with a sharp instrument. The empty containers would be left in our extra-large mailbox or on the porch.

In the early years of living in L.A., the USPS office would make a notation that they received the package damaged or opened. When there was no notation, it made me suspect that someone in the USPS chain simply helped themselves upon seeing which company was the sender. There were a couple of jewelry and watch purchases sent from HSN in their usual small polyethylene envelopes that had the contents removed. Thank goodness HSN took my word for it and sent replacements.

If UPS or USPS delivers it, I get some kind of notification. That can help, but this time it probably wouldn’t have because it was probably delivered just before the rainstorm. I will give Amazon an earful about this.

ALL ABOUT EVE is one of my fav films. Everyone is wonderful in it…just the right amount of histrionics. I adore this scene:

If you’ve seen the film, you know the context. If you haven’t seen it, then you must.

In the early 70s at a gathering in my home of film industry women where we viewed upcoming projects, one of my friends brought Celeste Holm with her. Nice surprise.

I had seen the movie, but didn’t remember anything about it until I watched this scene. I really loved anything that Bette Davis was in, ……….except maybe Baby something. There was just something about her. I saw her on stage when she was older and she did a one woman show. I really enjoyed it. I think she talked and may have answered some questions. Hard to remember. Now I want to watch All About Eve again.

I had to pick up a few things at Publix. On my way back, the radio was on, as usual, and it is set to a mostly conservative station. Some guy was talking and I finally realized it was lying Fauci. And, he was just telling one lie after another. All he wants is for everyone to be vacc’d. He will say and do anything to make that happen.

My brother and I are sorting through hurricane supplies today, peak hurricane date is just a few weeks away. Czar had been a prepper for hurricanes for years, and we have batteries, chargers, lights of all shapes, sizes and uses, headlamps, water filters, solar battery chargers, you name it, plus all the prepper foods.

It appears we are ready for hurricanes, major and minor disasters, a massive solar flare which damages the electrical grid, an electromagnetic pulse from a foreign government or terrorists, and the Apocalypse. Czar was very prepared.

Navy could return to using photos for promotions, personnel chief says
By CAITLIN DOORNBOS • STARS AND STRIPES • August 3, 2021

Vice Adm. John Nowell, the Navy chief of personnel, said Tuesday, Aug. 3, 2021, during a panel discussion on diversity and inclusion at the Navy League’s Sea-Air-Space conference that the service could include service photos in promotion packages again after data suggested minorities, in some situations, are less likely to be selected blindly by promotion review boards. The Marine Corps is also considering the change. (Diana Quinlan/U.S. Navy)

I heard about a new channel today. I was watching Fox and Friends and one of the hosts said her grandmother was watching Gunsmoke on INSP. It shows westerns. I have about worn out GRIT. I have watched all the shows I am interested in enough times. Unfortunately, I have seen all the movies, too. So I am glad to find another channel with good shows on it.
