Mornin’ Wee and Lucille, and all. Weather………same. Our little lake is so low I don’t think they will be able to run the water fountain that they use to aerate it. I have never seen it this low at this time of year.

I found a list of items to store for emergencies on the Internet: Canned beans, canned pumpkin, canned tomatoes, canned soups, canned coconut milk (unsweetened), canned tuna, and canned artichoke hearts. I think some things on the list seem a little weird. I keep lot of beans, tuna, and chicken. I don’t think I could eat artichoke hearts even if I were starving. Possibly, Anyway, I am pretty well set for a while with some of that, a preppers can of dried food, and lots and lots of water. Also have to think of Loki, too

Now let’s see if WordPress will accept this.

Interesting. I knew about some of these (baking soda in onions for instance; helps them brown faster and to break down in soups or stews), but not all. Baking soda also helps ground beef to brown faster too (Dissolve a pinch of baking soda with a little water, then mix that into your ground beef and let it sit for at least 15 minutes.)

G’day all! I’ve been absent for a while, so figured I’d better check in. All is well here in my little corner of Alaska. I had the cataract surgeries last week and the week before, and all went well. The outcome hasn’t been perfect, but overall as good as the surgeon hoped for. Since I had radial keratatomy 25 years ago, he said, there is a “surprise factor” involved that is difficult to anticipate. I went for correction of distance vision with the expectation of continuing to need readers and that is what I got, though he thinks I will still need mild correction for the distance, possibly only when driving. So far I am only wearing readers and driving just fine with no correction. I follow up with him next month.

On Monday I see a new orthopedist to evaluate my arthritic shoulder. Expecting to need shoulder replacement. After 12 orthopedic surgeries in my life, I don’t fancy another one. But I am really ready to have this thing stop hurting so much. Hoping I can put it off until fall so I don’t have to spend our short and glorious summer with my right arm in a sling going to PT. My dear cousin is coming to spend the month of July with us, and I plan to have fun!

Summer solstice is getting close, and daylight is approaching round-the-clock. The sun is rising at 4:30 am and setting at 11:30 pm. And the hours in between don’t get really dark, more like civil twilight. Another week and we’ll have sunshine at midnight. I love summer!

Best of luck, Tundra. Arthritic shoulders are nothing to laugh at, for sure. And the test to find out what’s wrong with a painful shoulder is horrible. Don’t remember what it’s called but there is one where they shoot your shoulder with some liquid. The pain from this test literally made me scream in pain. Gives me the shivers just thinking about it.

We’re light a long time during the day, too. Not as long as Alaska, of course. This is the first year it’s bothered me. I installed draperies in the master bedroom but my office bedroom doesn’t have them. Our sunrise is around 4:50 and today’s sunset will be at 8:45. The other day I was watching the livefeed from St. Petersburg, Russia and it was fully light at 3:40 AM.
