Capt. Benham UAL#1175 INTERVIEW

This is the captain who experienced the 777 engine failure on a flight from San Francisco to Honolulu. Exciting story, and I even shed a few tears. Great interview by Juan Browne.

Absolutely superb interview and great interaction between the two men. The story-telling was so riveting that the time just sped by. It’s one of those incidents, like Captain Behnam said, when all the stars aligned for a successful outcome. Any one thing left out would have meant total disaster.

After looking for him online and couldn’t find him immediately under “Benham”, one small segment that appeared was a bio for a “Behnam” who was a captain for United. Checking the site out, it mentions he speaks Farsi. Thus his family is likely from Iran…which I would not have guessed from his accent or appearance. The Captain mentioned in the vid that he was born in San Francisco, and there is a large group of Pacific Islanders in the Bay Area; so I thought he was Samoan.
