I go to this live camera feed several times a day. Romanian time is 9 hours ahead of Pacific time. This is both a pedestrian walk and a street for cars, garbage trucks, and police vehicles. It’s fun seeing people on the other side of the world going about their daily business, or being tourists with a bunch of kids in tow, or citizens out walking their dogs. Occasionally I’ll tune in at 3 or 4 in the morning and there will be people perhaps walking home from work, both women and men. So far no loitering or criminal activity. I doubt anyone but the restaurant proprietor knows they are on camera.

Pilvax Restaurant & Wine Bar Live Camera on Michael Weiss Street, Brasov, Transylvania, Romania

This is a main plaza with a few benches to fit with the Bench Monday theme…

And, yes, Transylvania is Dracula’s home. There’s a day trip tourists can take from Brasov to visit the castle formerly owned by the person that Dracula is based upon…a Romanian prince nicknamed Vlad the Impaler….

IMO, the best Dracula was Louis Jourdan who played the character in a 1977 TV movie…

Louis Jourdan…remember him in GIGI? Sigh!

Romania isn’t on lockdown but some still wear masks. It’s one of the poorest countries in Europe, with the cities doing pretty well but the countryside not. And the Wuhan has hit them hard economically.

Romania’s history is very interesting…descending from the Romans. And Romania between the two world wars is a prime example of those who choose expediency over justice, then end up much worse off than they could have imagined. Their monarchy was so afraid of the Russians, they chose to side with Germany in WW2, only to be invaded by the Russians and placed under the very cruel system they feared. The Romanian dictator and his wife were executed when overthrown at the end of the 80s. It’s a history well worth reading about as an object lesson.

Will do…I love old world history (especially our country). Reading a really well-researched book about Meriweather Lewis and all details of his [short] life, interactiton with Thomas Jefferson and the preparation for his expedition to the ‘west.’ Politics was same then as now; just in the form du jour.

Stella, love the shot of Hearst Castle in the fog. Nostalgic, since that’s the general area we left in our exodus from Calif. Visited the Castle several times and remember one in particular when it was wet fog on the coast where they loaded the busses; driving up the hill, we climbed out into a sparkling sunny morning at the Castle (looking down at the top of the clouds like being in heaven).
Also went on an organized trail ride on the Hearst Ranch; wonderful memories forever.

“Me three” :0) Nothing worse than stumbling out to the car & sitting on the cold vinyl seat in order to start the car so it could run thirty minutes to warm up…..yep, do not miss those cold morning car seats ………..

I will feelz like a toasted marshmallow when it warms up to zero Tundra, however forecasts indicate that won’t happen for at least seven more days so until then I’m afraid I’m gonna feelz like a frozen popsicle….:0)

Do you plug your car in when it gets that cold? We have a block heater, an oil pan heater, and a battery blanket that all need to be plugged in for about an hour before starting the vehicle. Then let it run for half an hour to defrost the windshield and get the oil circulating. You know it’s really cold when the car seat feels like a wooden bench when you sit on it. Glad you can stay inside and keep warm!

I’ve always believed that part of the reason that northland people consider spring such a delicious event is because of what they suffered when it was 10 below (F) and anywhere below that. When a person lives with that for a few weeks at a time, spring is just pretty delicious. Something to be treasured.

When Grant and I went back to MN in 1993 after 28 years in SoCal, we certainly knew what to expect because we both grew up in that climate. Knowing what to expect didn’t make the details any less necessary.

I remember one winter with many blizzards and weeks of 30 below….he would work industriously to keep our (thankfully short) driveway clear. But it was SO bitter, that even after he was bundled up in his Air Force survival-type coveralls before he got the snowblower out and moving, I would stand at the window and watch ever minute, in case he might have any trouble and physically go down for any reason at all. Those were the years also, before cells phones, when, being in the country as we were, if I was going to walk out to get the mail and Grant wasn’t home, it was standard practice to call a neighbor and let them know, with the understanding that I would recontact them when I came back in. And if I didn’t check in, they would know to investigate. That was routine in empty nest households, just to avoid dying stupid.

Enjoy all the warm cozy you can gather round, Litenmaus. Stay safe.

So if the Senate declares it is Constitutional to try someone who has left office, will the Supreme Court be asked to weigh in by the defense? There are so many cowards on SCOTUS that they’ve tried excessively hard to stay out of the whole thing. So what’s the likelihood they would take the case on?

I won’t be watching any of the Senate hatefest. The self-righteous haters simply cannot be stomached.

    G’mornin’ everyone!
It’s chilly here, up to 11. Better than yesterday at zero. Barely snowing now and it’s the nice powdery kind the pup loves to play in. We’ve had loads of very wet snow followed by freezing so it’s an icy mess out there with a light dusting of powder, lol.

My DH gets home late tonight after a 6 week business trip. I’m looking forward to not having to fill the outdoor wood stove that heats our business buildings. I’ve fallen more times than I care to admit with no serious injury but lots of bruises. It sure hurts a lot more to fall in cold weather. I told him I’m off stove duty for quite a while. He reminded me that winter was almost over so his stint won’t be as long or bad, lol.

    Life is good albeit cold!

G’afternoon all. Hope everyone is finding some warmth. They say the polar vortex is back for a while (who is they, exactly?)

Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in 2002. He went through the surgeries and chemo, and was put in a nursing home to die (Evil jeans2nd pitched a fit and brought him home with hospice). Dad lasted only a few months after all treatments.

Rush Limbaugh is missing from his radio show again today. Rush was also missing several days last week. I heard no mention of Rush having a “treatment week” either last week or this week.
If the progression of Rush’s cancer follows Dad’s, and I suspect it does, Rush and Catherine need our prayers now most especially.

We already know the outcome, but this is a tough one. Memories, perhaps.
It would be great if Mr Snerdly re-started Rush’s program from Day 1, and run the shows in progression, for a while. imo

I agree totally, jeans. I think I did see Snerdly mention on Twitter that Rush had a treatment week last week. I’ll check and see if I can find it.

I listen to Rush every single day while I bicycle (in the garage on a windtrainer, not on the road), and last week was not a treatment week–at lease not a scheduled one. His treatments are always on Monday and Tuesday. He recovers on Wednesday and if all goes well is back on (occasionally) Thursday or (sometimes) Friday. Last week he was on the show Monday and Tuesday and then suddenly off unexpectedly on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Thursday the guest host was Mark Steyn who said numerous times that Rush was just “resting up” and expected to be back on Friday, but wasn’t. He always warns the audience ahead of time when he will be having treatment. In the past, an unexpected absence has been due to him coming down with some infection or other (I suspect urinary tract or pneumonia, but he doesn’t say) which requires hospitalization and/or IV antibiotics. His last scheduled treatment week was the last week of January, the 25th and 26th, and he was back by Thursday the 28th. He gets treatment every 3 weeks, so the next should be February 15 and 16, unless something has changed.

I have been amazed at how strong his voice has continued to sound, and with no hint of breathlessness or difficulty in breathing. He occasionally mentions battling fatigue, and I am hoping this current absence isn’t due to anything more serious than that. I pray for Rush and Katherine every night. His overall optimism is a lot of what keeps me going these days. We need his voice in these dark times, and I pray God isn’t preparing to take him from us just yet.

    Overdosing On Wokeium
By Kurt Schlichter – Posted: Feb 08, 2021 12:01 AM

Why push the wokeness drug on the young, vulnerable, dumb and disenfranchised?
Because if you are obsessed with your next woke fix, with jousting with the phantom “white supremacists” who allegedly lurk around every corner, with purging the bad-thought havers who are the cause of all your disappointments and failures, you aren’t seeing who is really running the okey-doke on you.

Woke Revolution Looms For Minnesota Schools (This op-ed originally appeared in the Star Tribune)
Written by Katherine Kersten on February 07, 2021

Minnesota parents, are you ready for the coming “woke” invasion of your child’s public school? By 2022, as your first-grader is learning that 2 plus 2 is 4, the Minnesota Department of Education intends to mandate that she also “learn to recognize” “stereotypes,” “biased speech,” and “injustice at the institutional or systemic level.”

Since in the coming days we will be overwhelmed by arguments about the Constitutionality of actions taken by the United States Congress, and the Senate specifically. It might be a good time to take or re-take Hillsdale College’s course on the United States Constitution.

Go to https://online.hillsdale.edu/courses/constitution-101 if you are interested and register. It is free, though they would appreciate a donation per course taken. A person can merely listen to the lectures and not take the tests or make notes in the section provided. So there is no pressure.

    Have fun!

Supreme Court Strikes Down Gavin Newsom’s Lockdown Ban on Indoor Church Services
By STEVEN ERTELT February 6, 2021 | 10:49AM WASHINGTON, DC

“California had no right to declare itself a religion-free zone,” said Eric Rassbach, vice president and senior counsel at Becket. “When every other state in the country has figured out a way to both allow worship and protect the public health, maybe you are doing it wrong. We are glad this extreme violation of our first freedom has finally come to an end.”

This is absolutely stunning. If anyone did not believe that Bronco Bama and his team are running things in DC, I’m not sure how much more proof you’re going to need. For any of you who may have come over here from next door, this name will be very familiar. Denis McDonough, who was o’bama’s Chief of Staff, approved to run SloeJoe’s VA system. The vote was 87-7. I just cannot get past the fact that not one person that they have put through confirmation hearings has even had a relatively close vote. Proves the point that almost all of them in the Swamp were afraid of getting their apple-cart upset and now they’re getting back to their normal. Fat, rich and happy, while getting ready to put the hammer down on us deplorables.

If you have family that uses the VA I would urge them to get their care now, before he goes in and guts it.
