    January 30, 2021

An Austrian man who fled the Nazis with his family during World War II has left part of his fortune to the French village whose residents helped hide them.

Good Sunday morning! The Lord’s Day! Brrrrrr, very cold and windy today! Good day to cook in the kitchen lol!

I found this walking video describing political houses in DC. I found it interesting, like I was walking there myself sightseeing…things I will probably never really see myself. Hope you enjoy!

Thought I’d share the YT weather channel that I’ve watched for several months now. He’s just a country boy but his forecasts are generally right on and detailed. He also adds a scripture at the end. You can tell he loves God.

Mornin’ all. Pleasant morning here. So far, overcast with the sun trying to burn it off. Looks like snow for you guys up North. I finally got my Christmas tree undressed and all put back. I felt like I accomplished a lot, putting up the Christmas decorations and cleaning out my recipes. I am pondering my next project. Hope you all stay warm.

In case you’re confused, Clarice clarifies some things for us this morning. As she always does. For any of the newbies, make it a point to check her out every Sunday morning………at a minimum.

  8. Afternoon everyone! 🙂 Hope you’re all having a peaceful Sunday.
Late to the party as usual!

Here is a vintage image of Mission San Juan Bautista, Calif

Here is a newer photo of the Mission:

And here is a photo of the lovely interior showing the similar arches as the exterior:

More info on the Calif Missions can be found here at https://californiamissionsfoundation.org/ I am so glad both the history and images of the Missions are being saved.

Have to run off now, but there are some especially interesting comments today, so I’ll be coming back to view them later. As always, thanks for your wit, info, beauty, and camaraderie.
Have a great day everyone! 🙂

Thank you for that link, G_d&C; grew up in the Los Angeles area and saw this mission on a 5th grade field trip. The teacher let me read the sundial for the class! Always had a passion for Calif history and especially the missions; lived in San Luis Obispo for many years – it was quite the conservative ag town before the left moved in from LA and SF, with beautiful old buildings and even a China town (big railroad tunnels).
I’ve bookmarked your link for another day.

A couple of years ago, when I was laid up with a broken leg, I read Two Years Before the Mast. It was written two centuries ago, and is mostly about the California coast when it was still under Spanish control. Fascinating and a great history.

        • I had to look that book up:
“Two Years Before the Mast is a memoir by the American author Richard Henry Dana Jr., published in 1840, having been written after a two-year sea voyage from Boston to California on a merchant ship starting in 1834.” “The headland bluffs near Mission San Juan Capistrano presented an obstacle to taking the cow hides to the beach for subsequent loading onto the ship. So Dana, along with others of the Pilgrim’s and later Alert’s crews, tosses the hides from the bluffs, which he compared to flying a kite without a string. Some hides get stuck part way down the cliff and Dana is lowered with ropes to retrieve them. The headlands, along with the adjacent present day city, took on Dana’s name as Dana Point. ”

I’ll have to check it out. It was also made into a movie, but I don’t know how true to the book it was. Good to hear from you 😉

      • 🙂 I’m glad it brought back good memories. I have always thought sundials fascinating, even as an adult.
“it was quite the conservative ag town before the left moved in from LA and SF” – Sigh, I know how you feel.
Enjoy the info on the link 😉

Please explain to me the logic of someone running for Congress when they’re going to be 81 years old next election cycle. Other than being in the cool kids club and being able to enrich yourself beyond your wildest imagination, why else would you do this at that age. Apparently, Ms. Shalala didn’t get paid near enough after her public service for Slick Willie.

Flipped on NewsMax for some background noise while doing other things.
Lo and behold, Bill Whittle is on my puter doing the play-by-play for a NewsMax special called “Trump At War” about Our President’s war with Fake News, Part Two of a series of such shows.

Bill Whittle on NewsMax, documenting something one would never have dreamed of, let alone dared to do, with a host of whom few had heard, on a station that didn’t exist, just a few years ago.

    smh
Just a very few short years.
