You’re welcome, Surfhut! One of my favorite lunchtime things to do when I worked in Santa Monica, CA was to sit on the benches of Palisades Park and look at the ocean. Of course, it doesn’t snow in Santa Monica by the ocean but it has in the Santa Monica Mountains, though it’s always a surprise rarity.

Good morning everyone. Cold here, 28 degrees. Slept in this morning, just getting my coffee, then I’m off to the gym for some of my PT exercises, then it is a kid day.

The last time they were here for a whole day with me was before Christmas, then they had to quarantine and we missed Christmas together.

We had lots of fun with such simple things as scratch off ornaments we did for the tree. I may have to take them to Hobby Lobby, see if we can find something fun to do.

Hope you all have a good day, for some this first workday of 2021.

Lucille, a day or two ago we discussed the daily scripture readings, and you referenced another person who offers readings. I mentioned that I have started the Bible in a Year with Ascension Presents.

If anyone is interested I’m including a link. It isn’t a chronological reading, but one based on the Biblical timeline, which they break down into periods. There is a reading plan which shows you which readings are on which days, according to the timeline.

For the first part of Genesis we have several chapters a day combined with a chapter from Psalms. There is a beginning podcast with Jeff Cavins, who designed the Great Adventure Bible Study program, and Father Mike Schmidt Schmitz, who does the reading and short commentary.

Each podcast is 20-25 minutes, with ten-15 minutes of the Bible and the rest being commentary and prayer. Father Mike is a favorite of mine, I love his short videos, and I’m not big on videos.

I like the brief commentary. Sad to say, my attention span is less than it used to be, and I prefer brief studies in short bursts now. It makes good points, clarifies things, and brings out things you really need to get, but may be missing in reading the Bible.

You can go at your own pace, if you miss a day or want to do a few at a time, the prior days are available.

I half heartedly signed up, and the content presentation and commentary has far exceeded my expectations and I have enjoyed the time spent. I encourage anyone who has 20-25 minutes a day to consider trying it out.

Thanks, Menagerie. Sounds like an excellent study. I’ve made note of the link.

A good suggestion regarding Bible readings, the http://www.biblegateway.com site has numerous English translations plus many foreign language translations. Pick a translation or two, maybe an older translation such as the 1599 Geneva Bible and then a newer one such as The Voice. I occasionally find the older versions with their “thees” and “thous” plus the odd grammar and sentence structure to be off-putting. The newer can be just as accurate but with a much more modern-day readable structure.

I like to compare the two. The new translations often give a fuller flavor of what the original languages gave us. But whatever is chosen I’m sure blessings will follow as we learn more about the God Who loves us and we love in return.

Btw, biblegateway also has audio Bible readings… https://www.biblegateway.com/resources/audio/

Mornin’ everyone. Kinda cold here, but I don’t know what the temp is because evidently the battery died in the thermometer. 🙄 I saw a tweet next door that after the prayer in the House yesterday, the person said “Amen and Awomen”. I’m still laughing at that. I assume that it was a so-called clergyman who said that. 🙄

I love this video. If you know someone who is short on grocery money and has to fill some hungry mouths, you might want to pass this on.

What she does here is take a food pantry box that she picked up and delivered to another family, bought the same items for herself, and created meals from those items as examples for what can be done.
