Saturday evening I found an article from the British leftwing newspaper “The Guardian” regarding actress Kika Markham after earlier in the day having watched her star in a Hercule Poirot episode. I really didn’t know anything about her; however, the article was a revelation but not of the acting kind. She was married to Corin Redgrave, the brother of Vanessa and Lynn. After Corin and Kika were married for 20 years, he had a heart attack which left him with brain damage and amnesia.
As you likely know, the Redgraves are socialists of the well-known British economic upperclass variety which romanticizes leftism and leftist regimes. Thus, I found the following passage from the article (if interested, see: https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/sep/20/corin-redgrave-he-lost-his-memory-of-our-life-together) to be a bit of situational irony, to say the least:

None of them, not a single damn one including the author, gives even a passing thought to the millions who have been incarcerated, beaten, raped, starved, tortured, left a shell of the former self, or murdered in socialist hellholes around the world. But perhaps knowing Corin spent a confused amount of time behind bars shows that at least one brainwashed socialist got his comeuppance.

I’ve read quite a bit about her. Zmirak covers all of why I object to her most in this post. Like me, he’s a pretty conservative Catholic but both of us agree that her religion should not be an impediment to the carrying out of her duties as a justice. I don’t remember Scalia having the conflicts I foresee with her, if we take her at her own word.
I’ve also read that she supports, among other disturbing things, mandatory vaccinations. If that is true I have even more of a bone to pick.

One thing the elite has never quite gotten a handle on with Trump is how he blends policy and showmanship – he’s the best political communicator since at least Ronald Reagan. Picking the Notorious ACB is not just a policy triumph – she’s going to be great down the line, on guns, religious freedom, and not killing kids – but her appointment is a powerful message to our alleged betters. She’s not some Ivy League doofus mincing about Harvard Yard complaining about how the uppity gardener left grass clippings on the walkway that got on his deck shoes. She’s a married believer from Indiana and is therefore staggeringly normal compared to the coastal elitists who think they rule us. She’s young and bright and looks like she’s happy – which to our elite, mired in perpetual faux angst, is an outrage. She has got a bunch of kids (including one future icon who rocked a pale blue suit with an orange tie like a boss), which the frigid, barrenfeminists already hate but which normal people will think is kind of nice. People who drive minivans will identify with her; people who drive Volvos will Nadler themselves.

My thoughts after reading and digesting the article. I know this is a subject that requires tact so I hope the fact that I am trying to use it comes through 🙏🏼.
First I have to say that statements like this ;

From Barrett’s writing;
[W]e believe that Catholic judges (if they are faithful to the teaching of their church) are morally precluded from enforcing the death penalty. This means that they can neither themselves sentence criminals to death nor enforce jury recommendations of death.
I think here and in the subsequent passages from the Barrett/Garvey theological paper, we are reading the personal opinion of the writers. And if they believe as in Barrett’s case, with an informed conscience, that Pope John Paul II dogmatically forbid the death penalty then objectively her logic is correct.
But it is a writing from 1998. Barrett was 26 years old. Everything I have heard and read from her is that she has evolved and that she would be a Textual Constitutionalist in the footsteps of Scalia. “Idealogical Heir” to Scalia seems to be the consensus amongst people who know and work with her.
Her clerkship with Justice Scalia was from 1998 – 1999. I have to believe seeing a faithful Catholic like Scalia render under Caesar what is Caesar’s made a large impact on the extremely intelligent young clerk.

As to Barrett following Pope Francis before Dogma I don’t believe that would happen. She graduated first in her class at Notre Dame, belongs to People of Praise and likely in full understanding of difference between doctrine, dogma and Dogma and well versed in the correct meaning of Papal Infallibility.
Contrary to what Zmirak writes Pope Francis cannot change Dogma or even the Catechism without speaking from the Seat of Peter and that will not happen.
Zmirak states that Barrett would have to recuse herself because of her faith coupled with statements made if Roe V Wade were revisited. I don’t see any precedent for a recusal.
Biology and the Constitution support the overturning of Roe V Wade, it would be difficult for any challenge (objectively) to fight what is factually biological.
How can the court define human and non-human other than biologically (the politically expedient Roe V Wade aside) . How can SCOTUS legally deprive an American human of life liberty and the pursuit of happiness? Denying the first precludes all else. I think Barrett could and would write an incredible opinion on the Constitutionality of life and the unconstitutionality of Roe V Wade. Where in the Constitution does the living quarters of an American deny that American his or her constitutional rights, that will be the argument in the appeal of Roe V Wade.
As we both know no right to abortion is not found in the Constitution.
I am still pro Barrett I think her being an outsider, especially having gone to Notre Dame on a full academic scholarship and knowing that she would never be accepted as “one of them” has likely made her a very strong person. One who unlike Roberts does not need the accolades of the “right people”.
It appears that Barrett can’t be blackmailed.
Not you or Stella have mentioned that she is deep state “just like Roberts” that is what I was reading in places and I am still wondering where that opinion comes from, I do understand your concerns about her.

Thanks G-C, I was not aware of the Alinsky influence, though it is familiar to me so maybe I read about it in the past, but it doesn’t paint a different picture for me. Harvard and Yale are also Liberal hot beds influenced and populated by Marxist Elitists. I appreciate the information and will put it into my bank of more black marks on the Houses of Indoctrination.

In my spare time (hahaha) I was going to make a list of colleges and endowments. Dartmouth has $9 Billion, and if I remember right, a few years ago Harvard had $30 Billion. With Billions of dollars sitting around, why does any college get 1$ of taxpayers hard-earned money taken away from them to go to BILLIONAIRE COLLEGES?

Thanks lovely, I of course respect your opinion as well. I really had my hopes up for Lagoa and I think she was a much better choice. That being said, I now want her to be confirmed, the sooner the better, and do not discount the judgement of President Trump. I simply cannot favor her over Lagoa.

Against my better judgement I posted over at the Tree. Haven’t been there in years. Read a bit when someone would ask me too. Mainly went there to see if I could figure out what people find so distasteful about Amy Coney Barrett.

I don’t find her distasteful. I just don’t think she was the best choice at the present time. My mind may change, but I think the most important thing right now is to get a new associate justice on the court, and to avoid (if possible) the nastiest and prolonged resistance. Having eight justices on the court is a possible danger to the reelection of the President. There will be court cases regarding the election – a challenge to the Pennsylvania judge’s ruling allowing additional days to count votes without regard for postmarks is one of them – and a split decision will guarantee that the lower court decisions will stand. That’s my reasoning.

My thought is anyone President Trump picked would have been adamantly opposed by the Leftists. Look what they did to Kavanaugh who was squeaky clean.
I’m hoping (Dopey Lindsey Graham aside) that they don’t hold a hearing, just vote, why give the democrats an open door to spew their lies and hate. As soon as the democrats get power (God forbid) they are going to increase the number of Justices to stack the court, no matter who POTUS nominates.
Someone (Jim Jordan maybe) is introducing a bill to keep the SCOTUS bench at 9.

Better choices? Lagoa or Rushing.
Reasons for Lagoa:
1. She was confirmed to the 11th Circuit Court with a vote of 80-15 in the Senate, and it was less than a year ago. Judiciary Committee vote 18-4. In contrast, Barrett’s votes were 55-43 and 11-9. It will be harder for the Senate to reject Lagoa this time.
2. Lagoa is a Latina from a working class background. Dems won’t want to annoy Florida Cuban voters.
3. She has been a judge on various courts for 14 years. Barrett has been a judge for only 3 years.
4. Lagoa is a conservative judge (and also a Catholic) who will do well on the SC.

I think ACB is a logical, safe choice. My preference would have been Lagoa, based on what I was reading, but I figure we could have done much worse, as well. I just hope she doesn’t get squishy after a couple of years. The pressure will be relentless through her tenure on the Court, so we’ll see what she’s made of.

You probably know that Robert Barnes (@Barnes_Law) thinks that she is a bad choice. Read his Twitter feed and YouTube videos with Viva Frei for more insight. To make it short, he believes that she is more friendly to corporate and government interests and less interested in civil rights of citizens.

Me, I don’t have a final opinion nor do I think it’s necessary to have one. She seems quite likable, moral, caring, follows God’s command to do good works plus I wouldn’t be surprised if she were in the genius range. Since I am not an attorney, haven’t studied law, never even dated a lawyer (LOL!), when I read decisions they are often not fully understood. So I do rely on others who are knowledgeable to guide me through.
I believe President understands the law and he obviously believes she’s the best person for the job. I’ll go with that.

Good idea. I try to keep 3 or 4 pounds always, more at Christmas. Of course, we are using maybe a bit more on keto. Or maybe I just have a better excuse to use it now. I know this, if there is warm bread in my house my guys will got through two sticks in short order.

If anyone is thinking of buying the canned Red Feather butter, it is not like store bought regular butter. It is like 1/2 store bought regular butter and 1/2 clarified butter. I read recently clarified butter lasts longer. Wish I knew before I bought all this canned butter ;-(

Hello All,
I apologize in advance for the length of this comment. I did not know it would end up this long, but believe it is an important and somewhat unknown topic.
The 1st place I go every Sunday is https://fellowshipoftheminds.com/ I really find the Sunday Devotionals to be valuable. I purposely wanted to post today’s here https://fellowshipoftheminds.com/sunday-devotional-relieve-the-troubles-of-my-heart-suicide because of the seriousness of the topic, and to bring light to the terrible amount of suicide taking place, especially elderly suicide which many people do not know is happening. It is hard for elderly alone because many would take advantage of them, and they do not know who to trust. Today’s devotional brought me to tears as just before I read it DH and I were talking this morning about how we are both in our 60’s and alone, basically without any family. This is a sad situation for many elderly, and I think the final, great temptation of the devil. How sad many have tried so hard to live a good life, only in the end to succumb to loneliness and illness, unable to no longer take care of themselves, and now more than ever too fearful to go into a nursing home for the all too real fear of abuse. Perhaps noticing those around you and beginning to form long-term relationships with them would help. This may be difficult because many elderly do not often leave their homes. A handyman we hired had mentioned he was surprised when he first realized how many elderly there were in town who were alone and needed help with “simple” tasks. I really don’t have a good answer.
Menagerie posted next door about What Makes Life Matter? I have spent since then with that question bouncing around in my brain. Many said family and God, and they are right. For those without family, long term friendships to a certain extent replace family, but never really.
I thought of the problems of society and politics today: the hate, hysteria, irrationality, and violence of the “progressives”, as well as the driven need, like a drug addict, of some super wealthy people to take over governments and religions in an effort to try and displace even God Himself, so they may try to become totalitarian gods. These people view other humans as tools to be used (and therefore abused) and discarded when no longer useful.
The very basic beliefs that a person is born in the image and likeness of God, that their body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, that they are born to know, love and serve God, and treat their neighbor as Jesus treated them in a healthy, but sacrificial love is what is missing in much of today’s narcissistic, atheistic society. This knowledge gives a person innate value for themselves and others no matter how accomplished or smart they are. Abortion, infanticide, suicide, narcissism, vulture capitalism, violence, communism etc. can not exist if you believe and behave with the above Christian beliefs.
The infiltration of the Catholic church (and I’m guessing perhaps other Christian churches) and colleges by communist and/or atheist groups is IMHO the major cause of the problem. They seek to replace God and family with their own selfish, government subsidized, poor replacements of God and family. Government doesn’t put restraints on you, nor care how perverse you become, as long as you are still useful to it. The threat of government replacements being taken away can then be used as blackmail for even more control.
Each of us in the end stands before God alone to answer for our lives, but how do we know the truth if we are not taught it? What do Popes and saints say when our religious leaders fail us? St Athanasius said: “The road to Hell is paved with the bones of priests and monks, and the skulls of bishops are the lamp posts that light the path.” and “The floor of hell is paved with the skulls of bishops.”
What do we do? We spread the truth ourselves even if others not want to hear it. Pope Leo XIII said “But, when necessity compels, not those only who are invested with power of rule are bound to safeguard the integrity of faith, but, as St. Thomas maintains: ‘Each one is under obligation to show forth his faith, either to instruct and encourage others of the faithful, or to repel the attacks of unbelievers.’” For example: Many Catholics believe abortion should be legal – well you can’t be Catholic and believe that. The time for “cafeteria catholics” is over. That mentality has brought us right down the slippery slope to infanticide and selling murdered baby parts. Various people I know and are fairly close to me consider themselves Catholic but have, and may continue to, vote democrat. When I bring up voting for the party of death and enabling abortion, they become agitated and distressed over their repressed cognitive dissonance that then surfaces. They are unable to face the truth of their actions. I used to think it was not worthwhile to bring this up. Now I do think it worthwhile because it brings the dissonance of supposed beliefs versus actions to the surface, and nobody likes to think of themselves as a hypocrite. It makes them think about it, and who else makes them think? I can not think of the last time I heard a local priest in a church talk about abortion (EWTN priests do). Kindly and humbly correcting a person is a spiritual work of mercy. It is a way to spiritually help them individually, and a way to help our society in general. So that is where my now knowing the horror over the numbers of elderly and white males killing themselves has brought me.

Daily Readings and Homily – 2020-09-25 – Fr. Mark
Fr. Mitch Pacwa is a must…so very knowledgeable and his homilies are thought-provoking. Very likable man.
Fr. Wade Menezes is a compassionate though strict scholar and a missionary priest of The Fathers of Mercy. His homilies are always beautifully presented.
Unfortunately, I don’t have EWTN in my cable package, besides which I don’t even have my TV connected up; so I can’t watch the entire Daily Mass, but only view the Bible readings and the homilies on YouTube.
I know some Catholics think EWTN is too conservative, both religiously and politically. IMO if they watched some of the programming, though, it would be most edifying. I’ve gotten to the point of not being able to stand the style of preaching and praying exhibited by some of the Evangelicals, of which I am a part…way too dramatic and loud. I’m more into the meditative and calm presentations now that are on EWTN.

I also like Fr Patrick because he gets to the point and speaks plainly and clearly. Fr John Paul is really alive with the Holy Spirit. He recently said he was shaken up (my words) when they had a Mass and burial for a baby found dead in a dumpster – it really spurred him on to preach the word of God fearlessly.
Many Catholics need to read an old Baltimore catechism. The rules don’t change like your clothing styles or your FEELINGS.
I also am able to process the calmer, more logical style of these priests. I must admit though, I really wish they had a “Workingman’s Mass” that only lasted a 1/2 hour without the organ and extended singing. There are 7 days in a week, couldn’t 1 just be a Quiet Mass? Organ music really drives me crazy!
There is much to complain about in the church since it was invaded by communists a hundred years ago, but the basic, fundamental truths I can not ignore. It breaks my heart to see the church deceived and in decay by the corruption and laziness of many of those in positions of authority for many decades. Maybe all the hierarchy should be cleared away. As I said before, AB Vigano would be a good Pope, and would have the backbone to make the needed changes to clear out the sickness.

I wasn’t worried about any of this when I moved down here 11 years ago after a divorce. I had a BFF and made other friends. Then, after a few years, my BFF, and then my sister, who lived in British Columbia died. A lot of other friends I had made either died, or moved away, a few to live with their grown children.
I had thought at one time that I would move nearer to my son and his family, but he was in the Navy and I knew he could move any time. Then, he got out and has moved twice since then and is making another move now. So, I am in FL and they are up North. When he gets back from overseas, they will move again. It doesn’t make sense for me to try to live near them.
Going into a nursing home is a horror I don’t know how I could face. I know I have to start getting in better shape if I want to stay out of one. Florida does have a lot of support for the elderly, but I am not certain about how well vetted some of the caregivers are. This is a problem so many elderly people here have to deal with.

One of the funny stories the guys tell is of when they were invited to meet with Sony regarding representation in 2011 after their incredible hit of Michael Jackson’s “Smooth Criminal” on YouTube garnered multiple-million views in just two weeks. When they got to the offices and played for the executives in charge of talent, they discovered that the executives had not been convinced their sound wasn’t enhanced in some way instead of being merely two guys playing their cellos. Sony was happy to find out they were wrong.
Honestly, they do help keep me sane in these bizarre times.
