    • Recently went to a doctor’s appointment. Doc is Catholic & if I remember right a democrat. However the docs views when talking about specific issues are actually conservative! This last physical they don’t even ask who the president is anymore as they have in prior 5 years! Doc will not talk about anything politics, just repeated ‘the world would be better if we stopped all the hate’.

A BIG question I have is – How do we get through to these people who ACTUALLY ARE CONSERVATIVE, but have such cognitive dissonance about there “beliefs” when it comes to political party they will NOT TALK ABUT IT? They really are conservatives! There are A LOT OF THEM. They would vote for a republican/Trump if they followed their individual topic beliefs and ignored the media/church brainwashing.

Does anyone have anything that works to get through to them? This is every person I know but for 2 people who won’t vote for Trump. Most people I know will vote for Trump, but a surprising number will not.

BTW: Trump will win NH if the voter fraud is eliminated.

My suggestion would be to think of a way to ask a question on a certain subject that would cause your doctor to think for himself. You might also go online and try to find articles which give suggestions on how to approach him to change his mind or get him to question his own political positions. However, if a person can’t discuss a subject freely with someone, then it’s useless to try in today’s atmosphere, IMO. Trump-hate is so severe and leftist folks listen to only those who adhere to that mindless claptrap for their news. Pretty hard to combat.

In the case of your doctor who is likely conservative on the issues but Democrat by tradition, bringing up politics or personalities isn’t recommended, only issues that a good Catholic would agree upon. Subjects such as abortion, freedom of religion, or helping the poor with a hand-up, a job, a scholarship for college. These are also issues that President Trump has worked on. But once his name is brought up, the mind closes.

My personal road out of leftism is relatively individual and wouldn’t be a blueprint unless the person is naturally curious and reads all points of view. Of course in the mid-1990s, folks weren’t so outrageously crazy as now. I did have several leftie friends indicate I was being brainwashed by reading conservative websites which were relatively few at the time, or by watching FOX. One friend would switch the channel without asking me if he came into the room. When I questioned him on why he didn’t like FOX, he would merely say because it was rightwing. By the time November 2004 rolled around, I voted Republican. And when 2008 arrived, I wasn’t the least bit interested in Obama because I’d read all about him and knew his political type from my former life.

If a person isn’t inclined to do the hard work of research on all manner of subjects, then frankly I’d just lay aside trying to reach him. No use in distressing yourself for nothing.

        • I apologize for the delayed response to your thoughtful comment.
Yes, I think you hit the nail on the head.
I just wrote a comment on Sunday’s thread that asks the same question. When I began writing, it did not even occur to me the subjects were related, but they are. I won’t give up gently bring things up. I believe it is the duty of a Christian to do so, and also to me it is a kindness, like helping someone who is physically hurt.
God Bless you Lucille. I’m so glad you came around. You truly are an intelligent, wonderful person. 😉

  6. Morning all 🙂
Beautiful pics! That rolling hill/street looks like a fun place to go tobogganing in the winter!

So the fall foliage is improving here in NH. I thought a couple of days ago when I responded to TundraPA that it would be a crazy mix of drab & super colorful, but it is really improving! 🙂

Today we have “Topaz” from the gemstone series of posters from Mucha:

and here is an Art Nouveau topaz ring to go along with her outfit:

Have a great day everyone! 😉

  7. Gee whiz Stella, I’ve never seen a pic of the castle from that angle, & never realized how HUUUGE it really is! It looks like it’s actually an entire walled town!

It pretty much is! It contains an Army barracks, a chapel built in the 11th century, The Scottish War Museum, a prison, one of the largest cannons in the world(Mons Meg), 2 cemeteries (one for war dogs), and they shoot a cannon over the wall every day at 1:00 pm.
It really is a powerful sight entering the city by train. The train runs right next to it, and it overlooks the city and it’s lit up at night too. I sure do miss Edinburgh!

This came in from The White House recommended-news-to-read today…
Dangerous Chinese counterfeit goods are pouring into America, here’s how we stop it:
Morgan, Navarro – Published September 23

Every month, under the flag of Operation Mega Flex, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) does an enhanced inspection of small parcels arriving, primarily, from China.

Over the course of 14 monthly “blitz operations,” a decidedly unlucky 13% of the Made-in-China packages inspected have contained a type of counterfeit product or other contraband that can defraud, harm, or even kill Americans.

Got a pork shoulder for $.99 a pound this week. Deboned and removed part of the fat today and cooked some in the oven with sauerkraut. So good. Any suggestions for the rest of it? I might cook with barbecue sauce, but I’m open to suggestions.

    Good Evening Everyone,

Stella, thanks for the great picture of Edinburgh Castle, twice I have walked along that path and looked up at the Castle. The site has been fortified since people inhabited that area of Scotland.

My first visit to Scotland introduced me to the atholl brose, or Scotch and Porridge (oatmeal). First day I had one bowl, the 2d day, 2 bowls, the 3d day we had to leave before breakfast was served. It works just fine with Quaker Instant Oatmeal.
