Everybody here has at least one backhoe and I live on top one of the tallest hills in the area -125 feet ASL!

I’ve already been lamenting the fact that I won’t be able to take my drive across the Cherohala Skyway this fall. Sometimes I hike when I make the trip, usually at Indian Boundary Lake, but once I went to Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forrest, a virgin forest named after the man who wrote the poem “Trees.”
That is an awe inspiring park, and if I remember correctly it is where lots of one of my favorite movies ever was filmed, The Last of the Mohicans. The only complaint I had was huge downed trees across some of the trails, so rotten you knew they had fallen years ago probably. The park has signs everywhere telling you that it is naturally managed and no chain saws or other modern tools are ever used, just cross cut saws, axes etc. in managing the place. Looked like to me whoever was in charge of managing it wasn’t too keen on sawing those big old hardwoods up with no chain saw. Quite a few times I had to climb up over a big tree, or once, scrootch under a really big one between branches.
Anyhow, the best of fall is a trip up there, going through Sweetwater TN, where I usually have lunch at a wonderful restaurant in the old downtown area and poke around antique stores before going home, on up to Tellico Plains, one of Tennessee’s real gems, where you get on the skyway and go over the mountain to Robbinsville NC.
The views from the skyway are the best in the Smokies, and even better sometimes in the rain. If you get really lucky you might get to see an inversion, where you are looking down on the clouds. Once several years ago we had to turn back because temps were falling and it was snowing hard. I got some pics of the trees in their glorious fall colors covered with snow.

It’s just about my favorite place in the world. The Smokies are so old, so timeless, so huge. God surely shows himself in all his moods and majesty there.

The California Redwoods National Park is pretty spectacular. My parents used to speak of their friend who was a park ranger there and other beautiful forests in CA.

Nashville is probably pretty conservative in comparison to Cali. In relation to the rest of the state, with the exception of Memphis, not so much, and cost of living is very much higher there than here, housing especially. But again, not like California.
I think Nashville wants to be Austin when it grows up, but with a number of red necks, trash, and a huge underclass of angry takers they can’t figure out what to do with.

Yup, me either, but for some reason I really get into ethnic recipes in the fall. Happens to me just about every year and usually lasts through the holidays. I really love to find special meals, treats and desserts from all over the world during November and December.

Good day to you, WeeWeed! There are not enough words to describe how low a person the CA governor is.
A 24-year old with a 14-year old is not a healthy, “consenting” relationship no matter what these fools in the legislature say. Vulnerable 14-year olds now have no protection and apparently their parents have no way to bring charges or even to prevent a 14-year old from living with their rapist. Legally it’s not pedophilia…that covers pre-pubescent children. But it remains disgustingly predatory.
If anyone thinks this doesn’t mean sex with all ages of children will soon be legal in CA, think again.

Mornin’ all. I’m on my way to the massage therapist. This one is in my chiro’s office. I have been going for a couple of years to someone and it was helping so much. But, she had to have and operation and then COVID stopped her from opening back up. She is a liberal and evidently buys all the stuff about COVID. I don’t blame her for being careful, but she just started with one patient last week. She sort of encouraged me to have a test and I decided totally against it.
First, I am certain I had it back in Dec. She says you can’t tell if you don’t have the test. I disagree. Besides, I didn’t want to have a test that came back a false positive. Tomorrow I leave to see my family. I won’t get to see my son again for over a year. I don’t know how I am going to make it with my hip messed up, but I will at least try.

Good afternoon, aus! So sorry about your hip still hurting. Do you think using a pain gel of some kind would help? I use Voltaren gel and it is a miracle worker. It comes in slightly different variations for different types of pain. Walmart has it in stock.

Thx for the suggestion. I stopped on my way home and got a pkg of Salonpas. I was really sore after the massage therapist got through with me. 🙄 But, as the day has gone by, I am feeling a little better.

There has never been an election season like this one.
We have spontaneous Trump making Middle East peace agreements (is there a magic wand for that?), Trump boat parades and car parades, and Trump supporters lining Biden’s motorcade routes.
And we have an addled dementia patient representing the best the democrat party has to offer.

With no way to edit, we all should be forgiven for any mistake, large or small…no matter how much it personally annoys us. It’s sorta like everyday living and mistakes which cannot be changed, only apologized for.
Maybe we should have Stellar and CTH sign-up sections regarding absolution for any present or future mistakes…just blanket cover everything, letting folks know that tolerance for such things which cannot be changed is a virtue. LOL!

Really good performance. The sax player is Daniele Vitale from Italy and he has some great performances on YouTube, including some from his balcony during the quarantine. I like performers who have a little panache. This guy has quite a bit. And the girl in wonderful on the violin.

Lovely performances. Thanks, Menagerie. I’m always so very impressed at youngsters playing beyond their years. This girl looks to be about 13 and has obviously been playing for years. Bravo!
The other day I was searching out something Evgeny Kissin recorded recently and ran across this video of when he was 13 (b.1971) and playing Chopin (a child prodigy himself). It’s mind-blowing that a child would have such expertise. His personality then was rather robotic and so very serious. Perhaps his days were spent with adults who were more concerned (as he likely was) about perfecting his gift rather than learning to feel comfortable and sociable with others.

Last night I participated in a Zoom conference on music. There was a video showing active areas of the brain when a person plays an instrument. It was just about the whole brain. I wish we had more ability to encourage all children to learn at an early age.

That was “Despacito.” I doubt Ole Joe had ever heard it before someone handed him the phone and told him to play it…though it seems quite in character with Joe’s handsy-grabby thoughts and actions.

When I took Loki to the kennel, I felt pretty sure she was okay with it. But, I got a surprise. On the way there she was pretty quiet until we got on the parkway that isn’t too far from the kennel. She started jumping around and whimpering and I thought she was upset. However, when I drove into the parking lot, she was going nuts and when I went around and opened the door when the girl came out to get her she actually jumped out of her booster seat.
The girl said Loki is their favorite so I figure they all make a fuss over her. And, she gets to go out five times a day and run the fence with other dogs for 10 or 15 min. Then, she gets a pupperoni when she goes back in. So, it is obvious now that she loves it there. LOL The girl was really sad to hear that I wouldn’t be leaving Loki after this for a long time.
