The Old Swimmer
by Christopher Morley
I often wander on the beach
Where once, so brown of limb,
The biting air, the roaring surf
Summoned me to swim.
I see my old abundant youth
Where combers lean and spill,
And though I taste the foam no more
Other swimmers will.
Oh, good exultant strength to meet
The arching wall of green,
To break the crystal, swirl, emerge
Dripping, taut, and clean.
To climb the moving hilly blue,
To dive in ecstasy
And feel the salty chill embrace
Arm and rib and knee.
What brave and vanished laughter then
And tingling thighs to run,
What warm and comfortable sands
Dreaming in the sun.
The crumbling water spreads in snow,
The surf is hissing still,
And though I kiss the salt no more
Other swimmers will.
Have a pleasant Tuesday reminiscent of the best day you ever had!

Here’s a beautiful article…St. Augustine On the Beatitudes
By Steven Jonathan Rummelsburg
In 393, Saint Augustine wrote his Commentary on the Sermon on the Mount. In this edifying treatise, he begins with the weighty proclamation that “anyone who piously and earnestly ponders the Sermon on the Mount — as we read in the Gospel according to Mathew — I believe he will find therein… the perfect standard of the Christian Life.”

For the last two days, when TS Sally was approaching, two of the older dogs were just lying down, not eating and hardly moving. The cats were all sticking close to the house, if not going outside, and the three inside cats were sleeping with us in our bedroom, two of them cuddled up with us in bed.
Now the storms’s moving much farther east they’re almost back to normal. Yesterday it was hard to get the dogs to eat some ham, today they’re back to food and they’re moving around. As they’re quite old perhaps the atmospheric changes bother them more than they do the younger terrierista but no storm and normal dogs again. As to what constitutes a normal cat I’ll leave that question open.

We’re down there close to the bottom in the ‘yes, but in orange’ worry zone.
This morning, a local station that wasn’t satisfied with days of “YOU’RE ALL GOING TO DIE A HORRIBLE, WATERY DEATH!!!!!” they’ve all been peddling are now, that the storm’s going elsewhere, telling us what WOULD have happened had Sally have hit here.
One I really like is how the reporters are out showing one newer area of expensive lakefront houses/condos that have taken on some ankle-deep water. Thing is that this area is one of the worst areas for flooding on the lakefront, it took mucho feet of water during Katrina and was ‘built up’ by being a trash dump post-K for rubble from the storm.
At the same time wee have the local stations sending new, and from their accents presumably not local, (young) reporters out to the shore areas where residents have built their houses on the lake shore for generations and they were built to withstand Katrina. The reporters, not knowing much about the residents, seem to have a slightly dismissive attitude to these folks, more than a few of whom are 6-figure-salary professionals from the city. When talking with the some of the reporters seem to be a bit dismissive of these peoples’ choices, as if some kid a year or two out of some journalism school has a mo’ betterer local skill set than folks who’ve lived here for generations.

We had a female lab who wasn’t afraid of much of anything. T-storms didn’t seem to bother her, but I finally noticed that when she came an laid next to me when I was working at the computer, there was a really bad t-storm coming across the mountains toward us. It might be 30 to 60 min away, but she knew a bad one was coming. It alerted me to get the other dogs in and make sure all the windows were closed.

The old dogs aren’t scared of storms but suddenly the terrierista is. Even a moderate rain on the steel roof and she’s up in my lap. Started right out of the clear blue.

If……POTUS is re-elected, this man needs to be fired the day after the election. His cult-like status and ability to continue and move the goalposts are not acceptable, but he’s been untouchable until some of this sorts itself out.

I don’t know that the folks on here are big sports watchers, but I would be interested to find out how many have turned off most pro sports. I’ve eliminated NBA, NFL, MLB, NASCAR, Formula 1, Pro Kickball, and American Ninja Warrior from my TV time. There might even be a couple of others that I’ve forgotten. I’ve already finished one book and have numerous others that I’m now looking forward to diving back into.

We never watched pro football (except for oldest son) but my guys are big into college football, and my husband has loved NASCAR since the seventies. He is a car lover, understands the mechanics, hydraulics, pit strategy, you name it. He has always had a love for the sport. This year he and his pals passed on their races they attend, even though they had earlier been really excited about going since they are allowing some fans in now.
As for football, with Notre Dame’s first game last weekend we were dismayed to see the BLM support. Shouldn’t have been, as Notre Dame should no longer even be allowed by the bishop to be called Catholic, along with most so called Catholic universities,.

I quit watching pro football back a long time ago. I got tired of the arrogant, ignorant sounding, players making so much money. And, was totally out when I noticed how many were being picked up for drugs, stealing, and shooting people.

Auto racing and ice hockey we the only “sports” I enjoyed and well, NASCAR bought the farm, F1 made itself impossible to watch years ago, and INDY, well the jury for me is still out since it’s been a family tradition since 1938. Who wants to be the one to end that, besides I have a grandson who will be old enough to attend (family age limit) in another year and I have been looking forward to that day since the first time I held him.

I confess, I’ve watched some of the Stanley Cup finals, passionate about hockey.
But, I’ve gone out of my way to avoid watching or listening to any other of the stick-and-ball sports, and I will always watch Motocross when it’s on tv, that sport has played a big role throughout my lifetime.
Sadly I haven’t read a book in over a year or more.

Of course, it is only at the mouse/hamster stage of testing, with many more levels to prove safety and efficacy before getting out to the general public. Won’t be this year for sure. I propose restrained celebration, as I remember the story of interleukin, which was “going to cure all cancers” back in the 80’s but turned out to have limited application.

Good day to you, WeeWeed! As has been indicated by the “Harris campaign”, no matter what happens on November 3, the peaceful demonstrations of rioting, mayhem, looting, fire-bombings and terrorism will continue. “2020” will be the m.o. indefinitely.
On that happy note, I’m off for another sail…

Mornin’ all. Today the weather is “yucky”, Guess it will be that way the rest of the week. When it rains, which has been several times a day, it really pours. People will be complaining about not being able to see the sun by tomorrow. Floridians consider it a personal offense when the sun is covered by clouds.

Perhaps to relieve the stir crazy feel of being housebound by listening to the sweet, old-fashioned and calming sounds of this Austrian-American gentleman…Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) playing his own piece entitled “Liebesleid”…two versions, ten years apart….

Morning all 🙂
Still a bit overwhelmed with as someone recently said to me “trying to juggle too many balls of flaming sh!t”. Hope to be back in a couple of weeks, but I sneak in now & again to check on and smile with my internet friends.
Hope all those in path of storms or fires remain SAFE!
A couple of things:
From Instapundit by way of GraniteGrok: SEEN ON FACEBOOK:
“In 57 days, ask yourself do I really want the country run by the same party that runs NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland & Chicago?”
Also this story is all over the place about how Aria DiMezzo, a satanist, transgender, anarchist running on a “f*ck the police” platform won the REPUBLICAN primary for SHERIFF IN Cheshire County, NH.
How did it happen? First off many if not most in the upper ranks of the “republican” party in NH are rino’s at best. They are wolves in sheeps’ clothing. Believe it or not, the NH republican party put out an announcement congratulating DiMezzo’s win!
The republican who has run for office multiple times gave up after being defeated by college students voting a dem in every time.
Keene, where Keene State College is located, has about 25,000 people. Jaffrey is the next closest with 2,500 people. From what I have read from locals: Keene and Keene state college (KSC) runs the county. KSC has has about 4,300 “students” taking classes in communism out there, although the number of students is declining. In general it is a commie, old hippie, anarchist enclave with some actual NH locals suffering and staying because their family has lived there for generations. More and more conservative NH people are leaving the area, if not the state, sadly. Some police have also already left in the past few years.
So you have a declining college town teaching classes in actual communism if I remember correctly from an article I read a few years ago. There is a local anarchist group organized there. They vote in an anarchist, defund the police, satanist – gee what will happen? Hmmmm, maybe the rest of the police will leave, then the fire department guys will leave. So you’ll have a few thousand entitled, ignorant selfish, anarchist, communist, mentally spoiled brat children in adult bodies, along with a sadly not that well-off population of locals. What could possibly go wrong!?! The college people will leave as the college continues spiraling down as well as the town, and you’ll end up with a shell of buildings, drug addicts and crime along with the long-suffering locals, where once it was a lovely rural area with farms, local life, and a yearly huge pumpkin festival that brought thousands of people and their tourist money to each year. Oh wait – the college commies ransacked and destroyed the pumpkin festival a few years ago so badly that it was permanently cancelled – never mind.
Until:
1. Colleges no longer receive taxpayer money, and they have to support themselves just like the taxpayers that they feed off of,
2. Out of state students only vote in their home state,
and oh what the heck ~
3. California and New York millionaires can’t donate millions to New Hampshire democrats to buy NH Dems elections,
NOTHING WILL CHANGE.
Rant over, Thank You
And here is a picture of that serval cat Czarina commented about yesterday that got loose in NH recently for those who missed it. I guess he can’t function without his morning coffee either:
I wonder how this little guy would do with the bald eagles that hang out along the river waiting for the national fish hatchery release. Good thing they caught him.
Have a great day everyone, and be safe with all the crazy out there. 🙂

A good article again from Imprimis….including this sign of the times – Malcom X is quoted with regard to American principles and the need for personal independence. So a Nation of Islam individual is now a source for what was formerly self-evident. Will wonders never cease.
Had an errand to run and as I was coming back the talk radio guy (have no idea who) was holding forth on the well-deserved collapse in football viewing stats documented in the past few days, mentioning the end zone, pitcher’s mound, and helmet adverts for blm garbage. As he finished his bit and cut for a commercial, the PSA that immediately followed was, “Have you been a victim of sexual abuse? The Boy Scouts of America, etc. etc. etc. …..so call now! Sign up now! Get some of their money now!”
The entire world has become facebook. Everybody’s a victim, and unless it’s done on video, it was never done at all. No one, apparently, has any interest in (or ability to….?) simply living a private life.
My brother from Salt Lake called a couple of days to inquire about fire status stuff. He said it’s “very quiet” there but it seems like things are simmering, nevertheless. He is not trustful about being out any more than he has to – says his world is getting smaller. I commented to him that so much of what I see on the ground here screams loudly, “I can’t do anything on my own. Somebody help me. Tell me what to do. Tell me how to dress. Please tell me to stay home so I won’t get sick.”
Saw that large homemade sign on a yard a couple of blocks away today – STAY HOME:STAY SAFE.
…and we are supposed to believe the “Harris Administration (along with Joe Biden)” (that was Kamel’s assertion somewhere yesterday) would be an improvement. Boy, do I spit in their general direction…….
I’m angry. I suppose something productive could come of that. I will try to make it so.
Reading more chapters in Bonhoeffer this week – and he speaks to this dilemma of walking by faith, anticipating God’s eternal provision, while being solidly functional in this present world. He saw the question in the circumstances of Nazi Germany, as many of the “good church people” thought they should be quiet, cooperate, and wait for better times. His well thought out efforts, along with very many others from his large family, said, “No. I will not cooperate. I will deceive in order to resist. I will not be quiet, but I will live effectively as long as possible.” He was not the only one in his immediate family who was murdered by the Gestapo for their efforts against hitler, including one of his brothers.
W/re to fire status: this morning, after 8 days, I can see through the layer of smoke and I spied a cloud formation. The biggest fires east of me here are still at zero % containment, but there are lots of boots on the ground now, including the people who there who refused to leave, who survived, and who are now standing guard and fighting the continuing hotspots. And there are good, large signs that say, “LOOTERS WILL BE SHOT”. Saw a short bit yesterday about a woman somewhere in one of these areas who caught some jerk setting a little fire. She held him at gun point until the sheriff’s department arrived.

Yeah, local TV ain’t showing some of the ‘U loot, We shoot!’ signs out in NOLA East but they just put them in their garages and pull ’em out for the storms. My neighborhood had ’em on 4X8 sheets of plywood chained to posts at the intersections of streets.

ACLU Turns Political, Backing Biden Campaign
By IRA STOLL, Special to the Sun | September 15, 2020
Take a recent mailing from the American Civil Liberties Union. “I’m writing you today with an urgent plea for your participation,” says the letter, signed by the executive director of the ACLU, Anthony Romero. Then, in boldfaced type: “Fueled by racial animosity and political desperation, Trump won’t stop at anything to keep people from the polls this November.”

After 9/11, Biden Wanted to Send $200 Million to Islamic Terrorists

Abraham Accord Challenges Iran As Biden Eyes New Appeasement
By BENNY AVNI, Special to the Sun | September 15, 2020
The Abraham Accords, being signed today at the White House, are widely celebrated in the Arabian peninsula and in Israel, but they’re really bad news for Tehran.
Vice President Biden, in a dispatch for CNN, argued last week that there’s a “smarter way” than President Trump’s to deal with the Islamic Republic. The presidential hopeful argued for a return to what was known during his time at the Naval Observatory as “rebalancing” of America’ foreign policy.
