Good morning Czar, I love to watch Cat sing Father and Son as a young man, then as an older gentleman..
How Islam captured his heart I’ll never understand. Sad and sickening.

Oh, poor baby having to carry around that load for so many years! It was likely fun to have a life on the run…no dogs barking commands and herding you around. But then once caught, he got to live the life of Riley as a pampered and feted celebrity.

He kinda looks like my Persian at the moment! Poor Kitty!

Beautiful. Every time I see or hear the word chrysanthemum, I think of my paternal grandmother. She wrote a lot of letters to my parents and she always talked a lot about her “chrissyantheums”. Say that the way it is spelled. I asked my aunt later in life if she pronounced the word that way and she said she did.

If the wide open spaces are your thing, take Stella’s train–the Nevada-Northern Railway–in Ely, Nevada.

The lure of the train trips is strong. But, I took a trip from Picayune, MS to Meridien, MS with friends a couple of years ago and while the trip there was uneventful the return was a disaster. As we exited the train we were would be a 2 hour delay for the return, scheduled for 2:00. Delays and more delays later I arrived in Picayune after 11, exhausted and cranky, and schedlued to be at work the next morning at 9.

The ‘exhausted’ is attributable to the train trip, the ‘cranky’ – not so much.

Is that a frying pan I hear cracking into the wall above your head, czar?

It’s that ‘cranky’ thing.

Back around ’66 or so, I visited my boyfriend’s parents in Nashville, TN. We were supposed to take the train from there to Chattanooga, about a 3 hr trip. It snowed. Snow in the south is a very big deal. We finally arrived in Chattanooga about 14 hours later. We were on the train that whole time.

I took a cross country trip on Amtrak a couple of years ago. One night (I think in North Dakota) I had a dream that I was being beaten and thrown about. I woke and found that the roadbed was so rough that I was almost tossed out of bed. I would take Amtrak again only if I had a room with a private bath. Even then it’s a bit like camping. The food was pretty good though and the scenery is often lovely.

I have taken several Amtrak trips, one from just above Jacksonville, FL to Lakeland, Fl, one from Upstate NY to Lakeland, and one from Lakeland to some town near Norfolk, VA. I would not like to do that again unless I had a private compartment with a bath. But, I do love riding on the train.

On that last trip I traveled coach going from Chicago to Portland, but took a roomette going back. The roomette is at least private and you can lay down, but there is no private bath. Have to have that at my age!

I had to travel by train in Scotland every day for work until I got a car. It was beautiful! Traveled quite a bit in England and Scotland. It was the quickest way to get anywhere. The trains were very nice and modern, and they went real fast! About 85 MPH. They probably go faster now.
I still think the best train trip ever was when my 2 pals and I hopped a freight train when we where about 10, and rode through Danville Ky. It started speeding up, so we had to jump when we found a grassy place. What a thrill!

Hey all y’all! I’ve missed ya. Been camping–in our comfy RV, not roughing it–down on the Homer Spit for 8 days. Beautiful place and a fabulous time had by all. Just getting caught up with all the chores now. Very spotty internet availability so I’m way far behind here and next door. Always good to be home.

Glad you had a great time, Tundra! Good to see you back and ready to get chores done…LOL!
Me? I just sat around all day Thursday looking at videos. Friday’s highlight will be having a grocery delivery plus a couple of CDs and a new keyboard are on order for partial delivery. It’s what I call living high!

Our local power co-op has decided to provide hi-speed internet to us via wi-fi. They have two test areas they’re going to start in and when they said where I thought that we were in it…nope, outside of it by about a 1/4 mile. Next year in Jerusalem…

I called to cancel my sports pkg yesterday, only to find that there is no sports pkg. All those sports channels are mixed in with the regular ones now. Darn. I really wanted to cancel those channels.

They probably had problems recouping enough money from package sales to cover the costs of maintaining them. I was seeing the concept being parsed finer and finer to increase package deals, they were just a hair short of the ‘ Albanian Junior College Badminton Sports Package’ when the virus mercifully started the winnowing process.

I imagine it’s hard to sell sports packages when no sports are being played.

Looks like this year the only way many fans are going to see a NFL or NBA game is on pay-for-view. Wonder if the net receipts will be enough to pay those overpaid and spoiled twits?

I’m waiting to see how much money the NFL’s going to lose this year. NBA games are already looking like a silent movie and their antics aren’t helping much either.

What makes the Saints the Saints is the party in the stands and the tailgating outside. Fans with season tickets are sorta upset that spending all of the buck$ they did for those overpriced tickets is getting them bupkis and I’m wondering how the teams will play without that fan support from the stands.
I’m trying to work up some sympathy for those who own or rented the luxury boxes and suites for many thousands but so far, no tears.

I’d rather stay home, watch on TV and get smashed. It’s a royal pain trying to walk out of the dome when you’re snockered. I can also spend the ridiculous ticket, comestible and drink prices on good food and booze.

Mornin’ everyone. Same weather………different day. Just a few more weeks until I get another grandchild. I am trying not to worry. My DIL had no problem with the first two. And, she has done well throughout this pregnancy. I think my level of concern is because of all this other stuff that is going on now.

@#$%& local news is wringing its hands over the ’emotional and mental health issues’ of your child(ren) going back to school. Seems they believe strongly (“Boy, have I got a psychologist for YOU!”) that the acts of going back to school amidst the pandemic can cause emotional turmoil.
BS, kids for the most part are carrying their parent’s stress to school with them, kids could mostly care less on their own. The stresses they feel about wearing masks! Some will wear the masks, some will just do what’s comfortable…you know, sorta like how way back when public schools started kids wearing uniforms so that their thugette classmates wouldn’t kill them for their clothes?
News just has to manufacture crises where none exist to fill in all of those dead moments between inanities. This morning the had an integrative psychiatrist (yes, Virginia, another niche medical practice that can bill your insurance) who warned us of the dangers to childrens’ psyches going back to school. I might suggest that when they do one of these ‘The Sky is Falling’ pieces of theater they don’t show videos of students returning to school acting like the usual goof students on the first day. Oh yeah, and a lot of the ones they showed weren’t wearing their masks correctly…sure looked like a Prozac moment to me.

Afternoon Stella and Stellars.
Storytime, anyone?
Friday night last, around 10:45 p.m., Insalubrious GSon txtd me, which he never does, and asked did i know what was going on, and if so, how much did i know?
One might imagine what was running through my mind.
Seems IGS has been reading what appears to be Q. My reaction – instant glee. Here we go.
Spent the next nearly three hours trading outlandish stories and conspiracy theories. I was down to radio station reception from the mercury fillings in my teeth, so finally told IGS the truth – all answers are The Great I AM, and begged off due to old age, lateness of hour, etc etc.
Predictably, like clockwork, 10:43 p.m. Sat night, in comes The Text. Wicked Son.
“My son is outside with a red laser pointer signaling UFOs. I blame you.”
My reply – “Tell him to try the green laser” – brought The Phone Call.
What fun, even though it was very late at night.
IGS started his junior year at a new college Wednesday last.
No Wicked Son overseeing.
Know any new conspiracy theories?

I had a really silly thought. I was sitting here watching a westerrn and thinking what it would be like to be transported into that time And, I realized that the first thing I would need to do is go to the bathroom and they would point me to the outhouse and I would want to be back here in this time. LOL

And A/C……I’ve tried to imagine what people smelled like back then – and can’t.

I have an idea. We were visiting a busy park one time. A couple was walking toward us, but still way off. We could smell them before they got to us. They were both tall blonds and spoke Swedish or something.
I didn’t even think about the a/c. I could have handled it out west without an a/c back when I was younger, but I am sure not now. But, just the outhouse is a definite game changer. 🙄
