Good News!! (& happy stories), May 22, 2020

Wow! A Virginia family is being praised for their extraordinary honesty after they found—and returned—one million dollars in cash.

I hope they get some kind of reward for their honesty.

FTA: It turned into a marathon of 47 days and nights, but 12 staff members remained the entire time. Their determination paid off, and on Monday May 4th, amid hugs of celebration and singing, coronavirus tests came back negative for all 106 residents.

This makes me dizzy.

Starlings are fascinating.

I wonder where she’s going.

Not good news, but a warning of things to come.

A motorist was forced to stop when he noticed a crow and a hedgehog in the middle of the road. The crow appeared to be helping the hedgehog get across the road and out of harm’s way.

An interesting man.

Man’s best friend is his helper.

Isn’t that the truth?

Man’s best friend keeps our spirits up!

Charlie’s prayer.

We have much to be thankful for. This is a favorite hymn of mine.

ST. ANDREWS CATHEDRAL: The day before churches were shut down in Sydney, we very quickly recorded, with a very reduced and socially-distanced St Andrew’s Cathedral Choir, several well-known hymns and psalms. We hope to share more shortly. We hope that you find them all useful in this difficult time when churches are unable to meet.

Thanks, Stella…loved the crow/hedgehog, the million dollar return, and the magnificent “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of Creation” vids. Those YouTubes, your typing and the balloons are the only things I can see.

BTW, years ago when the news carried a story about a guy who found $100,000 or so, I asked one of my pals what he’d do and he said to forget returning it. He’d just stash the cash and consider it his as finders keepers. There’s no way my conscience would let me do that, but then I wouldn’t turn him in to the authorities, either…so maybe I’m not any more honest than my friend.

And just how did those sacks of money end up in the street? I’m inclined to think it was a theft and the person threw them out to be picked up in a few minutes by an accomplice who didn’t show. If the bags somehow came out the back door of a USPS truck, how did they get separated with a bag in the street and a bag on the side of the road? Highly suspicious that no one at the USPS discovered there was missing money when arriving at the deposit destination. Wasn’t here a receipt procedure to be followed? Love to hear the USPS explanation…yeah, like we’ll ever hear what could be!

Honest, decent people who turned the money in.

Isn’t that a wonderful story about the people in the nursing home? 😀

That is so cool about the starlings.

The crow and the hedgehog is something else.

I think that starlings are fascinating. They are somehow communicating; I don’t understand how.

We lived out in the country on a hill. The sand cranes used to come and spend Jan (I think it was) in a field not too far from us. They flew over the house every day in singles. One day I heard a loud noise coming from them. They were flying over in a huge V with smaller Vs here and there. I thought they were going for good. I saw about 4 from different places on the large V turn and fly back as fast as they could go. I wondered what they were doing and eventually they met up with a few stragglers and started back toward the large V. This went on for maybe a week and the large V got bigger each day.

What I wondered was how did they know to go back for the stragglers? And, it appeared that they changed places in the point of the V. I wondered how they communicated.

I found some of this in a book. That is how I figure out they were going back for stragglers. I actually saw them fly back and then turn around when they reached a small group that was behind. The book said they were young ones, so evidently they were trying to teach them.

My nephew (4 years old) was laying on the pier, simply still for a good 10 minutes. This is an all boy boy who is never ever still, but there he was a good solid 10 minutes with his eyes peeking over the edge of the pier into the water.

Finally he got up and walked away looking disappointed.

His gram asked him what was wrong and he said “There was a big group of minnows and a little group of minnows, just STARING at each other, I was waiting for them to go to war.”

Now I have never seen minnow swim in place facing each other for that long but who knows, the boy was sorely disappointed that there was no war 😂.
