Anthuriums remind me of the plastic flowers my first mother-in-law kept all over her 1960’s decorated house.

I remember those two. So many women had them, and lots of them never cleaned them, so you were looking at that plastic shiny finish covered in greasy dust.

Speaking of dust, after my paternal grandmother died in 1950 at 73, my grandfather married again to a lady who collected magazines. She had a room set aside at their house (right on the beach and the rent was less than $70 a month! LOL!) for her collections of LIFE, LOOK, THE SATURDAY EVENING POST, TIME. The room always smelled of dust and deteriorating paper. Since we were information junkies, my sister and I loved going through the stacks when she let us choose a few issues.

Not to mention a REAL TOY inside! I can still remember, back in the early 50s, the frogman toy that you made work by putting bakindgsoda in capsule on his leg and he went up and dow in the bath tub.

I done jes dumped ’em out inna bowl, pulled out da toy an’ poured the corn flakes or Sugar Corn Pops (Sugar Pops are TOPS!) back inna box. Used to use my William Boyd Hopalong Cassidy Big Top peanut butter milk mug right with it.

My father sat across the table from me, so when he read the paper, folded in half, I learned to read upside down because I had already memorized the cereal box…

Just had a hour-=plus squall line go thru and it was a noisy one. Thunder, lightning, rain that sounded like gravel being dumped on the steel roof…got a scared ****less terrierista curled up in my lap. Sghe needs a bath too.

Tweren’t no pickanick here neither. Two old dogs and Czarina jes slept right thru it, terrierists and I were up and moving, fresh coffee for me and some spare cat food for the terrierista helped take the edge off.

He didn’t notice I was awake when it started with a crash 4:46 a.m., and still half-awake when he moved to the recliner chair with the trembling terrier around 6. Quiet outside now, black-n-white cat on the back porch enjoying the calm before the next wave of storms is due here around 2:00 p.m. So far, 2 1/2 inches of rain.

This reminds me of a story. My husband and his siblings and a few intrepid friends, and very few inlaws -most of us knew better, used to play what I called tackle volleyball when they were young. One inlaw, kind of a nerdy rule book guy, declared himself a referee, thinking to stop the tussles only to find all of them turned on him.
So, he shows up one Sunday with a bag of flour and lays out a court, saying no one can argue boundaries. First time the ball hits the flour he rules it out, as everyone can clearly see the flour thrown up. Sure enough, someone (the biggest smart ass brother, as the whole family is entirely smart ass) yells “But it’s self rising!” And back they went to the fights, which was of course the number one reason they played.

2.5 inches of rain in just over an hour. I went outside to see if there was any damage, the su wasn’t above the forest to the east, the sky was fully lit. The low-level clouds were screaming along west to east, really moving quickly, while the back end of the front that came through was sharp as a knife. Right over our house the east side was solid and black while immediately behind it the sky was clear and blue.
Tomatoes and peppers looked a bit bedraggled but soon as the sun hits them they’ll start to perk up, trees are all lush and fluffed out, they love this. Creek’s running and the lake’s up a good 3 inches, but it drains a couple of hundred of the surrounding acres. Second round of rain should be here sometime artound mid-afternoon.

Well plans changed my friend can’t go out until after 4:30, tea house closes at 2:30. We might go tomorrow to the teahouse. My normal treat there is English Breakfast tea and Borek with a side salad with raspberry dressing. Yummo!

Turkish flatbread (almost like Phyllo dough), spinach and feta cheese. It is a Turkish family that owns the cafe.

We used to get them in Germany as post-war the Germans imported thousands of Turks to man the factories. They’d set up their own stores and the borek were popular items in their bakeries and coffee shops.

This family is really nice, we’ve become friends over the last 10 years, they were going to host a political event for me and then the Chinese Virus hit, they make a lot of traditional food. Live music (local talent) every Saturday morning, very homey place.
The last time I was in there I spent $40.00 I thought I didn’t have my bank card and the owner was like “Eh don’t worry about it, you’re a friend” (thankfully I found my card 🙂 ) Also because they come from a repressive society they are not exactly kissing our socialist governors ass, it is so nice to sit down and eat a prepared meal, no fun, no dishes, just a relaxing moment.

L used to like the various sweet fillings but I haven’t seen a Turkish bakery or restaurant in years.

They have pastries, I’ll take a picture next time I’m there. Everyone loves their Baklava, I don’t like honey so I don’t like Baklava.
They even make a great chocolate chip cookie 🙂 !

As bad as the virus is I think an even worse plague is the number of ‘experts’ who’re infecting us.
I’m listening to ‘experts’ on the tee-vee telling me how many tests a day we need to ‘safely’ open the country up – so far the ‘experts’ range in the guesstimations from 150,000 to 5 million a day. At the same time I’m looking at studies put out by well known ‘name’ universities on the ‘dangers’ of a spike in viral infections due to a premature reopening. The guesstimations run from a few million to a sizable portion of the country BUT all have, to one degree or another, a statement that unseen circumstances can change the numbers heavily in one degree or another. We pay huge amounts to these universities for these studies when we could get a COVID-displaced tea leaf reader to do the same thing for pocket change.

One of my young cousins in Washington attended a protest rally against the governor, Inslee, and posted about it on Facebook. Boy oh boy is she getting attacked, by relatives and friends! Her mother, a nurse in a local hospital, defends her, and with facts, no less. She’s actually working in proximity to Covid patients too. As she put it (to a cousin I despise):
Please stop attacking those you disagree with on M’s page. Your opinion is no more valid than anyone else’s. I have 40 years in the medical field, I’m currently working in a hospital with covid patients as a CMSRN. You have no medical training, experience or knowledge. You’re cowering in your house and only see what the deep state wants you to see.

To all of the above, there are many educated views on this, I posted the images and participated in something I believe in because I am excited about it. I personally don’t trust the main media sources. I do not appreciate having those sources quoted in a format from a group of people I love in a gang up attempt to shame myself and others and be insinuated as selfish. I care about everyone’s rights not just my own, and you are perfectly free to stay home if that makes you feel safest.

I’m still mad as heck that they only value deaths, numbers on a page deaths. Life by God matters too, and lives are being ruined.
You can’t change the deaths but you can change life and people’s futures.

They value death because of its fear factor, people are scared not only of dying but HOW they die and the mental image of slowly choking to death with a tube down your throat scares people int submission.
Note how the fear mongers have attacked other physicians cwho’ve discovered proven and effective ways of treating many patients without intubation…they need that fear to keep you on edge. There were two news articles in a row this morning, one about how the hydroxychloroquinine doesn’t work and another where due to the effects of the drug there are two new, aside from the ongoing, tests with it. Booga booga, there’s a scary bureaucrat under your bed!

Mornin’ everyone. Sorry to hear about the storms last night. Somebody said they were headed our way, but I will have to check. Last I heard, the bottom edge of whatever passes through will be just north of us and we may not get anything at all. But, that could change on a dime. Right now, it is clear blue skies and sunny.

My friend owns a little home and has decided to put some sort of leaf protection on her gutters since she can’t clean them and it is very hard to get anyone in to do it. I imagine some of you have done this. Do you have any recommendations as to what type and brand works best?

sorry i’m late to the party today, but if your gutters and asphalt-type shingles are in good shape, then the coated mesh screen guards are inexpensive and effective against most debris except the small maple helicoptors and white and loblolly pine needles.
they have clips on the gutter side, and must be tucked under the edge of the shingles or they will flap in the wind and may come off.
The ones i’m talking about come in three foot sections, about 5 or 6 to a pack.

That’s what we have! They work just fine, I still send DH up there twice a year just to check and make sure they are still placed properly. So far, they have done very well! They’ve been there for about 6 years. We got them at Lowe’s and they were very reasonable.

After watching THE KENNEL MURDER CASE the other day, I looked up William Powell’s movie list and discovered in the 1926 version of THE GREAT GATSBY he played the George Wilson character (Scott Wilson in the 1974 Redford version, and Jason Clarke in the DiCaprio 2013 film). The film is lost to history and only a trailer survives (which in the big silent movie theaters would have been accompanied by the house organ)…

Been trying to lower my BP and lately I’ve been going thru my old and somewhat musty vinyl record crates looking for something to calm me down.
Came across 1969’s “Stand Up” album by Tull, last Fri. night.
Now I can’t get this beautiful piece of music out of my head.
I did drop a few points on syst. and diast. though.
Guess I was destined to be “Living in the past”.

Oh, Yeah… That’s Jerry Goodman on violin… took the gig with the Dixie Dregs When Allen Sloan (Sloanov) left, he was pre and post Mark O’Conner era, I honestly had forgotten about them, since I never bought any of their records…
