…which is also the last Friday of winter 2020…
Have a blessed day!

Morning Lucille, thank you for the amazing images. Friday the 13th isn’t all that bad, unless of course you’re a Templar Knight, then…….it’s not so hot. I still believe there had to be a very good reason De Molay (Grand master) was kept alive and tortured for so long after the rest were killed.

Your mention of DeMolay reminded me that there was a DeMolay club at my high school. There was also a Youth For Christ group. I wonder if they are allowed today.

So beautiful! My eyes always long for green this time of year, and the hope of flowers to come. We’re still a looooooooooooong way from that. Snow in the open yard right now is at least 2 feet deep with drifts a lot deeper. And nighttime temps around zero. Sigh.
Good thing I love winter and have IDITAROD to keep my spirits up. It’s about 20 below on the trail where the race is right now. Aliy is not having a great race, but Pete is doing pretty well. The other top woman musher, Jessie Royer, is still in the lead. A woman musher has not won Iditarod since the great Susan Butcher’s last victory in 1991. I’d love to see Jessie win. Go dogs!

Admiral Semmes azalea. There are a series of them named for Confederate officers, different colors. They lose their leaves in the fall, and bloom without leaves in early spring. They went back to the native azaleas, which have small petals.

Thanks, czarina! Be lovely to have an azalea garden with the different colors.

If our go hiking at the right time in spring in North Carolina you will get to see an awesome display of wild azaleas growing all over the mountains. I love them so.

Congrats on giving them up! I’m in my 9th month of nonsmoking after 40+ years as a professional grade smoker, yeah I want one but won’t, so I guess understanding is understating.

I quit at 3:30PM, September 30th, 1980. For most of us military-grade smokers (3 packs of Kools or Marlboros with occasional Lucky Strikes or Picayune cigarettes thrown in) you may forget your wedding anniversary but you won’t forget when you quit the cigarettes.

That’s the truth! I quit when I woke up on Monday, March 20, 1989. My sister died the previous Friday of smoking related disease.

That was a rough couple of weeks, I did it cold turkey, and even 5 years later I still had an urge now and then. That was easily cured by taking a drag off of one and having it feel like someone was sandpapering my throat with an alcohol soaked brillo pad.
Problem was that NOLA then was a smoking city, city didn’t stop smoking in bars and restaurants until 2007.

I remember when my father quit smoking. He had a really bad case of the flu and laid on the couch for two weeks without a cigarette. The first time he came back to the table to eat, after he finished, he reached for his regular cig and lit it up. He put it out and said, “Why would I put that nasty tasting thing in my mouth.?” And, that was it.

I know what you mean. I quit cold turkey too. I shared a small office with a chain smoker, and smoking was allowed everywhere in the office.

I was working a crypto node and we could only smoke by going into the bathroom, opening the window and turning the overhead fan on. During the day shift we had three people there and a 4th on swing shift. On days we could go outside as long as someone was in the room but at night we had only one person so it was the bathroom.

8:40 am June 24th, 2019. I suffered whats known as a ring avulsion, the surgeon reattached the finger and told me if I ever had another I’d lose it……….Aug 7th I went in for a skin graft and woke up a missing finger. I want one in the worst way but keep telling myself something good HAS to come of this, I’ve lost far too much of what made me “me”. It was my wedding ring and I’m left handed.
It’s a huge part of my speaking up here after lurking for years, I fight my demons like everyone else, but we all want, or try to find a place to fit in. I come from a family with two disabled combat vets as members so perspective isn’t really hard to maintain, but I still have “me” to deal with when I lay my head on the pillow so….Thanks for listening

I’m sorry that it took that to cause you to quit, but I congratulate you on it nevertheless. Each of us has to find that good reason to quit, and you did! I can tell you that it gets easier as time passes. I have no desire for a cigarette now.

New Data Shows Evidence of Short Seller Attack on Market — Trump Must Reinstate Uptick Rule Immediately to End the Market Crisis
Guest post by Frederic Sauer – March 12, 2020
Short sellers do not have to own stock to sell it. They borrow the stock, sell it, and hope to make money by buying back at a lower price. The short sellers are attacking the market by relentlessly borrowing more and more stock and selling it, overwhelming the Main Street buyers.
This is how George Soros made a fortune by short selling the British pound.

Coronavirus: Deserted Italian street rings out with song as people lean out of windows to sing together during lockdown
As life in Italy grinds to a halt amid a nationwide lockdown to control the spread of the coronavirus outbreak, one street was filled with song as the community banded their voices together in solidarity.
A video of people singing out of their windows on a neighbourhood street in Siena, Tuscany, went viral on social media, with many calling it a “beautiful” act of humanity.
“People of my hometown Siena sing a popular song from their houses along an empty street to warm their heart during the Italian Covid-19 lockdown,” wrote a Twitter user who posted the video.
The song, titled ‘Canto della Verbena’ (‘And While Siena Sleeps’), is a popular folk song in the city typically sung to express local pride.
It focuses on the Piazza del Campo, the main square of the city, and is traditionally sung by members of a contrada, districts set up in the Middle Ages to supply troops.

Making a big batch of roasted vegetables (2 sheet trays): Beets, parsnips, red onion, garlic, yellow potatoes, butternut squash. Smells like heaven in here! Was going to make a meatloaf, but the meat is still frozen, so I’ll probably just cook eggs.

Another woman I have been watching lately (don’t know why because what she does is nothing I would do). She has a family of six, and shows how to save money on food and shopping. I like her. Here is her experience in the pandemic panicked stores.

My friend called a little while ago, all upset. Her niece had just called her and said she has listened to a speech on a friend’s phone from some guy at the Pentagon (Yeah, hm??!) who was saying we were all going to be in lockdown and had better have months worth of food and water. Also, they were going to shut off the water and turn off the electricity. Then, my friend asked me if she should call and tell her sister, who tends to get hysterical over everything anyway, and I said absolutely not.
I remember reading something about rumors about a fear of all that happening but it wasn’t anything on tape. I can’t find anything either. I just wondered if anyone here has seen anything like that?
LikeLike
That makes no sense. Why would the federal government order electricity and water shut off? Or a lockdown for months? It would crash our economy for good.
LikeLiked by 1 person
I know. And, I told her the first thing I questioned was the Pentagon {?}. And, why turn off water. I am sure it is just to create panic. But, who did it? SMH

It’s sad that people are panicking so thoroughly. Common sense MUST prevail.

Yesterday In New Orleans the mayor instituted that no one could be evicited, or have their electricity or water turned off. Seems opposite from what that woman said. They’re going to be helping people with expenses. Zion Williamson, a new player for the NBA team said he’d pay the salaries of every employee of the arena where they play for one month, since they won’t have any work.
