Dreaming of spring…
…while in a snowy winter…

Happy Monday, Lucille. That second photo is beautiful. That’s what all our trees look like around here. We’ve been staying right at zero or a little below for over a week now, with intermittent snow and the hoarfrost on the trees is gorgeous. Especially at the right time of day when there’s a deep blue sky behind them. Winter can be so breathtaking!

Thanks, Tundra! It’s stopped snowing here, but more to come. As long as my grocery delivery guy can make it to my door, I’m good. Our hillsides are full of pines and are picture-postcard perfect!

Uh huh, I can attest to winter in Fairbanks being breathtaking…

Yeah, I don’t think I could enjoy winters in Fairbanks. Minus 60 is just too hardcore for me. I love my Kenai Peninsula. Winter usually stays between zero and +20 here.

What we have learned from the Iranian shoot down of PS752….
Russian Air defense systems are not much cop.
Especially when operated by poorly trained squads. I imagine much the same is true most places. The fact that the air defense system could not (as used) differentiate between a 6 M long Cruise missile, and a 40 M long Commercial airliner (traveling half as fast as a Cruise, and ascending from ground level within the Radar’s field of coverage) makes them not fit for use at all. I assume they could well shoot their own planes down if they are that hopeless. Also… I am no expert… but I believe that USA (and others) have high speed missiles despatched ahead of other aircraft to “take out” air defense. They hone in on the radar of enemy Air defense… so when these Bozos switch there radar on to take down a random passing airliner… it will likely be the end of them. 🙂
I would imagine that Russia is none to happy about their “state of the art” air defense systems have been shown to be crap.

The Russians never sell their 1st line systems to foreign countries, they sell what they used to derisively call the ‘Monkey Models’, dumbed down versions, as they know the chances of having the systems compromised to the West is always there. The one sort-of exception is the rare circumstance where the employment of the system is vital to the host country and the Russians, then they’ll employ their later systems and put Russian crews with civilian or host country operators in the cabs as they’ve done in places like Vietnam during the war.
The US, and other nations, do employ ‘HARM’ missiles (High-speed Anti-Radiation Missile) as a deterrent but systems like the Thor have built-in countermeasures and are designed to fight thru jamming and physical countermeasures. The HARM concept dates back to the Wild Weasels during Vietnam so the concept is well over 50 years old and the other sides figure in suppression as well as jamming and spoofing when they design systems.
The exact model of the Thor we’re looking at isn’t being mentioned but if it’s actually the M1 series we could be looking at a system that’s some 25 years old, potentially, but is still quite effective in countering fast movers and cruise missiles from about thirty feet to some 20,000 feet in a hostile environment and would be employed in a layered defense with supporting and overlapping MANPADS and higher altitude-capable AAMs, it would be a very very hostile environment for aircraft or missiles and we’re not eve talking about Iran’s more modern systems like the Russian S-300 series it’s managed to get hold of or its internally manufactured systems that build on more modern Russian, Chinese and European systems.
An attacking air force using fighters, bombers and cruise missiles would encounter a layered air defense going from ground level (MANPADS and radar-controlled automatic cannon systems) to high altitude AAMS up to around 100,000 feet. There will be multiple radar systems both colocated and remote that can detect incoming craft from almost ground level to over 100,000 feet, dummy radar systems designed to spoof incoming attack craft – it ain’t gonna be a cakewalk and it ain’t gonna be one jerky operator shooting down a lumbering whale of a passenger aircraft.
The pivot here is the Iranian crews, how well will they perform? They haven’t really been battle tested and how well they will work depends on their training and dedication under fire. Many Mideast countries don’t train to the same standards as the West does, something that’s been a constant frustration to the Russians as it is with us, but with their country under attack all bets are off. We’ll most likely prevail but it’s possible it would be costly.

We had some machinery operating across the street so I thought I’d check it out. As there is a lot of trees between the house and the road I had to walk down the not-a-driveway, thru the trees to the street. It weas dark so I had my headlight on and as I made the turn by the lake there was the black and white cat, right behind me going for a walk. As we left the tunnel of trees there’s an openish are to the right we call the Triangle and right there was a small herd of about 6 deer. I looked at them, they looked at me, I looked at the cat and the cat looked at both of us.
I’m sure the cat thought they were the biggest mice he’d ever seen – they were about 25 feet away – and he move a liiiiiitle closer to me, sorta giving me the ‘are we gonna go after them, Big Guy?’ look. The deer moved off slowly about another 50 feet to a sort of clear cut path from the driveway to the house where they just stood, flanked by forest, looking at us. The cat and I went the 100 feet to the road, saw it was a weekender with a big tractor cutting his field, and we walked back. The deer were still there, watching us with a mildly interested detachment. They watched the cat and me walk back up the path to the house, they weren’t tense or nervous, just detached and apparently wondering what this whatever and this transistorized bobcat were doing prancing thru their living room. They’re not only stupid but they taste good.

Woof! Long night, what was supposed to be a small rainshower turned into a monster and dumped over an inch and a third on us in just over an hour on already pudding ground. Thunder and lightning were quite a show, the terrieror spent most of it in my lap and then curled up in bed with us.
Fog this AM with the potential of more rain for the next week or so. Our wet winter and spring is right on target.

Morning aus and everyone, just getting a kinda slow start to the morning. Soon it will be time to get started on all the chores I’ve postponed for awhile.
We’ve had such wet weather that I have a mud tracked house from the dogs. Hard to motivate myself to clean it up when more rain is coming in tomorrow.
I begin to think that we’ll need an ark soon.

Saw on the Daily Mail this morning that there’s a meeting coming up between the royal family about what to do about Harry and Megan deciding they want out. But Megan skipped out of the meeting and went back to Canada, leaving her husband behind to work out the details of her decision.
I couldn’t believe it. She’s behind this, and she won’t even stick around to help defend her choice.
It also turns out that Princess Liberal wants to come back to the US but not until President Trump is out of office. 🙄 I wish we could give President Trump four terms. He’s great at getting people to self-deport.

Harry and Megan, the perfect confluence of useless, privileged elite whose only purpose in life is to be celebrities. Let’s see how long Harry’s celeb status lasts when the royal family’s publicity machine spins him off and Meghan’s when her star starts to dim. They’ll be right up there with Paul Reubens and Sally Struthers. At some point the Hoolyork media will tire of supporting them and they’ll slowly shift to the ‘where are they now’ shows. Dancing With the Stars?

Watching the Rat gov of Louisiana being sworn in for his 2nd term. He’s claimed credit for Louisiana’s economic uptick that tracks the nation’s during Trump’s years. He’s talking about how Louisiana’s economy is the 4th fastest growing in the nation but doesn’t talk about how that’s a statistical bloop based on where Louisiana was
He said he wouldn’t raise taxes but almost immediately after assuming office did so and when asked about that deflects to how he buried a billion dollar deficit…but doesn’t talk about how he hasn’t touched those sweetheart budget appropriations that are permanently ensconced and only benefit a privileged few. He’s doesn’t mention how under him he’s allowed heavy polluting chemical industries set up in what the MSM already calls Cancer Alley and is populated mostly by poor black families.
He’s giving his speech sand mentioned MLK Day upcoming and applauding how diverse his government is yet when the camera pulls back we see a bare sprinkling black faces on the dias in a state that’s about 33% black. Yup, he’s a Edwards.

I decided to eat a few saltines to settle my stomach but the dogs saw my hand moving towards my mouth and … FOOOOODDDDD!!!!!!!!
The border collie (BC) sat square in front of me in the alpha spot, the terrorier to my right and the blond BD whatever was on her blanket on the couch. The BC and spring were right there for their crackers but BD stared big-eyed at me and wouldn’t move off the couch. As Czarina wasn’t homeI justy sailed a cracker slowly at her – she watched it float by, bump off the couch and hit the floor. BC wouldn’t move but she noted where the cracker klanded and if she wasn’t handed any more she’d pick that one up later…though she leaned a bit in the cracker’s direction. I sailed a second to BD, she let it bounce off her leg and she watched it hit the floor too…BC made a 2nd mental note.
BD is one lazy dog, she will give you that long, languid look as she rests her head on the couch asking you to bring her food to her. I did giver her one of the missed crackers – BC knew I couldn’t get ’em both and snagged the 2nd one. Whatever else BD is, she’s a hound.

Impeachment Articles Must Be Challenged in Court
By Arnold Cusmariu
The latest reporting I’ve seen is that the Senate will take up President Trump’s impeachment trial this week. What’s wrong with that, you ask? I’ve already said what’s wrong: the Schiff-Nadler Star Chamber violated President Trump’s Fifth Amendment rights to procedural due process, rendering the resulting impeachment articles null and void as “poisoned fruit.” The GOP leadership should do what the Founders would have done: challenge the legal legitimacy of the impeachment articles. The logic blueprint I will present below — Mr. Jefferson knew logic — will help make the case in court.
