Snow storm rising up in Paris at night on 6 February 2018

The Notre Dame Cathedral is located in central Paris and was built over more than a century in the medieval period. The architecture of the church reflects the traditional medieval style in the form of columns, spires, and statuary. It is one of the major tourist attractions of France and continues to inspire artists and architects.

The cathedral was built between 1163 and 1345 and is listed as one of the largest religious buildings in the world. One of the famous churches in the world, its twin towers go as high as 69 meters and have 387 steps. The south tower of the church is home to Notre Dame’s largest bell that weighs around 13 tons and is popularly known as the Emmanuel Bell.

Sadly, Notre Dame was extensively damaged by fire in April of this year. It is said that a complete restoration could take up to 20 years.

    This goes under the heading of “The things you don’t know because you weren’t paying attention at the time”…Excuses, excuses…but 2008 was a very busy year–I retired, moved from my home of 28 years and the city I’d lived in since 1963, setting off on a new life’s adventure, though unfortunately starting out with possibly the worst, most traumatic 2-day caravan move from California to Washington in history (I’d put an LOL! in here except it was truly awful). Then there was the getting to know my new city, meeting new friends, plus that fateful, horrible election of the person we were all told was NOT a socialist by people who tried to force us into silence…just a lot of things going on.

    I knew the ROE for the Afghanistan and Iraq wars placed a lot of restrictions on our military. But the “no prisoners” policy is a new one on me…and shocking as all get out…rather proving the suspicion that the 2 Administrations who handled the wars didn’t really care about defeating the enemy and rendering them incapable of living to fight another day.

    Good morning all. Two weeks until Christmas. I’m pretty much done with prep, just have the food shopping and big day cooking ahead, and I’m only doing meats and bread. And I’ll probably bake cookies this year!
