General Discussion, Tuesday, December 10, 2019

One of the most impressive and famous churches in the world situated in the Piazza del Duomo. The fifth-largest Christian church in the world following St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, the Basilica of Our Lady of Aparecida in Brazil, Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York and Seville’s Cathedral. It covers a surface of 109,641 square feet and considered one of the oldest churches in the world.

Dedicated to the Nativity of St Mary (Santa Maria Nascente), it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete, beginning in 1386, and ended in the early 19th century.

Apparently the House is going to pass the USMCA. I just heard some broad speaking in a press conference – she said that the trade deal sent to them by Trump was “deeply flawed”. I suppose I will have to read up on this at some point, but my gut reaction was to curse and change the channel.

Good mornin’ everybody. Sunny here and desperate for rain. The weatherguessers say there is a 55% chance of rain on Thursday. Let me interpret that for you. That means there is a 55% chance that at least a sprinkle will fall somewhere in Central Florida on Thursday………..maybe. Go Navy Beat Army.

There was a package of lefse in the mail from my niece this morning marking the official start of my Christmas season. (rolled potatoes…might explain why one doesn’t find too many Norwegian chefs in the culinary world :0).

It is bitterly cold this morning and there’s more snow forecast for tomorrow. I think maybe tomorrow will be a good day to set up my Christmas tree.

Sharon used to make lefse. I have a feeling maybe you need a certain genetic code to make that stuff. I’d love to try some of it someday though.

Several years ago I stumbled onto something called an aebleskiver pan, and I was obsessed with learning to make Danish pancakes for awhile. We still really like them, and so fun to make.

Anyhow, not the same at all, but I love ethnic recipes and food experiences. I have a special bread I make at Christmas that I go from a young man of Czech heritage. He said his grandmother had a specific menu for Christmas Eve, and that was part of it.

Enjoy your lefse and your tree! Do you have a fireplace? I sure miss ours, we don’t have one in our new home. Maybe someday!

:0) My great grandmother & grandmother were both full Norwegian and they taught all of the next generations the Norwegian ways in the kitchen. Truthfully, even tho’ we enjoyed eating the stuff, none of us really enjoyed the processes of making it, but my niece got the missing genes and she loves everything about it. It worked out well ’cause when Granny passed away, we sent all the Norwegian lefse irons and various paraphernalia her way. She cooks, we eat. Win-Win….
I do think I kept some sandbakkel tins, (yummy cookies that are major labor intensive) but it’s been decades since I’ve used them.

I would have loved to have had a fireplace but simplification of my life was the goal so I gave up on the idea. It was the right choice, but yeah, I do miss having a crackling fire on cold days.

My DH friend, Danny Thomas, has made a new video! The entire video was shot within 5 miles of our home. It’s not only a beautiful video, it’s a beautiful song. Whenever we pass the mill, I always slow down. Just because it’s such a wonderful sight to see, and if we’ve had a lot of rain, it can look stupendous!

Posted this next door, thought I’d bring it here too:

China’s just breaking norms left and right, now they’ve managed to create a viable monkey-pig chimera after they did the genetically modified twins. Put those two together and you get an idea of where Chinese genetic research is going.

The MSM’s largely avoiding the issue but China’s pouring boatloads of money into genetic research, far more than the US is and delving deeply into areas the US government won’t touch – though some US private research programs are delving into. China’s stated aims are to grow organs in animals for transplantation into humans but their goals go farther and deeper than that.

China has let it slip from time to time that they have goals to create super athletes and soldiers…whoops, more healthier citizens worldwide. The super computers they have dedicated to genetic work and the human chimeras they’ve created seem to point to other goals as well. Their work into finding ways to genetically target medications for humans/animals sounds noble but there’s a deeper, darker and more frightening agenda that comes out of that dual-purpose research too.

As more news leaks out, usually in more obscure research journals, of Chinese genetic research and human chimera creation. Cat’s outta the bag now, get ready for the stuff science fiction only dreamed about 50 years ago.

I’m wondering if China will have a single female in any of the Olympic sports, I’m thinking they’ll be going full “Identifies as” for all competitions.

That is until they can create a better mousetrap.

Right now they’re doing what the USSR Bloc did and having professional Olympic kids in 24/7/365 training. They’re going to use genetic jiggling to try and create super athletes so the Olympic overseers are going to have to develop some new standards and new tests. Good luck with that.

Very interesting. I can’t remember the substitute word the loons are using, something like “Ze” and “Zer” ???

Remember those tiny girls the Chinese sent to the Olympics. claiming they were old enough to compete.

          ****

My friend had a baby in early November. A beautiful healthy baby boy, one of the nurses said something about him and used the pronoun “He.” My friend said the nurse then got a horrified look on her face and said “Is that ok??” My friend is very conservative and very very raw. She had just been through 36 hours of labor so she responded to the nurse “He’s a f**king boy. You better say he.”

Sigh…karma. I was out on our county hiway, nice open road with no traffic and a 55 mph speed limit. I run with a radar/laser detector but there’s a series of small rises on the hiway and just as I crested one – POW – the radar detector goes off and 5 feet in front of me is a state trooper running with her radar on.

I can’t complain (actually I could but no one would care) as I’ve missed a goodly load opf tickets due the the detector and the 18-wheelers running the hiway warning drivers, it’s karma, my turn to get one. The God of Speed Traps decided that it was my time and I got it in an almost Road Runner fashion designed to let me know it was my turn.

Heh. Just went to court and got a 68 (was going faster than that) in a 45 reduced to an obstructing traffic citation, 2 points instead of 4.

      Whoop 😏.

      • czarowniczy says:

No points here, they just need/want your money. From the time I was stopped to the time the computer-printed ticket was handed to me was about 5 minutes.

The hiway’s a straight, rural main drag between the local tree farms and the area’s only paper plant in Louisiana so as time is $$$ to the truck drivers hauling logs the local and state cops haunt it like buzzards at a abattoir. They nail log haulers, 18 wheelers going between two interstates the short way and those of us who succumb to the lure of an open, straight and empty road.

I was probably doing over 70, and my registration expired in March (month my dad passed away and then I completely forgot about it). Once he put me in the system there was no way he could “give me a break” anyhow, updated registration and as I said speeding charge was reduced to obstructing traffic.

Best of all reasonable outcomes, I guess, but definitely a money making system , must have been 50 people in traffic court when I was there in a teeny tiny town.

I can remember, back in the old days, being told in roll call that the projected revenues from traffic fines for the city’s fiscal year was not up to projections. Seems that in figuring the city’s budget guesstimates of income from fines was written in. That was the sign that the shift was supposed to go out there and give out a bunch of tic kets.
