Mine is still alive. The plant itself seems “wilty” 😏. But I think the buds may blossom.

My friend who gave me the plant said it has always blossomed on Thanksgiving for her.

              We will see.

They have 3 seperate bloomers, Thanksgiving, Christmas a Easter but you can make them bloom at any time by playing with the temperature and light. The ones you find in the store may well be one of the three, the growers just manipulated their conditions for a Christmas sale.

As I go to the big box stores they have displays of them all over their stores and I can hear them whispering to me: ; ” Hey, GI, take me home…”

My friend knew my history with plants but her husband is just tired of plants being in every corner. I think I took about 20 from her…. Killed quite a few, gave some away before I killed them, and I have a few hearty survivors 🙂 !

I definitely do not which is what makes my surviving and about to blossom Christmas Cactus so exciting for me!

We have green thumbs but that ‘black finger of death’ for certain plants proves problematic. I’m ready to plant a few thornless prickly pear cactuseses, a curry bush and a real wasabi tuber (ain’t that a grouping?) and try cuttings from a climbing yellow rose. I’m feeling good about the hardier ones but we’ll see.

All of that sounds awesome. I have yet to be successful with a single outdoor plant. I do have a Rose of Sharon that is doing well, it even blooms, but I never do anything to it, I try not to even look at it too often 🙂 !

One of our secrets is we don’t do anything to them, other than a regular fertilizing…which can be irregular. They do quite fine without us in the wild, it’s when we baby them they go roots up.

Good morning, everybody! Warmer temps today (in the 40’s!!), and snow is melting.

    Seen on Facebook this morning:

Generational ignorance is not ours alone–The Telegraph

    21h
A poll of 16-24 year-olds found that 28 per cent had never heard of Stalin, almost half had never heard of Lenin and 70% had never heard of Mao Tse Tung.

____I bet as here the ones who did know are not in publicly financed schools. Does this explain the political divide?

    ————————————————————-

And from my FB friend, Alex:

I believe it. I may have told this story before:

I substitute in a suburban Detroit system, very good district as far as these things go, and a very affluent area. In may I had a week long assignment and on one day we took a field trip to the local art museum.

The kids were divided into groups with parent and/or teacher chaperones and activities to do. I was asked to meander around the museum, if I found any of our people (identifiable by name tags) wandering around herd them back to their group, and see if any of the adults needed help.

I came across one group led by a nice mother, and although I just exchanged a few words, given the area it’s certain that she was a high school graduate and had at least some college.

Several of the girls were taking selfies with a pop art portrait of Mao, so I cautioned them, “Remember, ladies, this is a picture of probably the biggest mass murderer in history.”

The mother asked what I meant, not at all in a hostile manner. “He was dictator of Communist China,” I told her, “and responsible for at least fifty million deaths, probably more.”

“Oh,” she replied.”I didn’t know that. That’s terrible.”

Those who don’t learn their history are doomed to help the Left repeat it. The Left has had the help of the public’s short attention span, that part of the American psyche that drives us to welcome our enemies into our home while they’re still our enemies and our accepting them as teachers of our children. Situational ethics as part of our national ethic.

There was a non-youth, I believe, at CTH yesterday who was giving out with revisionist WWII history about Germany’s invasion of Poland (she didn’t mention Hitler, as I recall) being more or less justified because of so many Germans living in the area who needed liberating. No additional mention of how many Polish civilians were viciously murdered during the “liberation” via the strafing of fleeing residents on the roads or the subsequent death camps.

She depended, apparently, upon family lore and POV, they being Germans who lived in Poland for a couple hundred years, rather than studying the complexities of lands across Europe changing hands on a regular basis during the centuries prior to WWI. I didn’t get into it with her as I truly dislike anyone in this day and age where information is so readily available essentially defending Hitler and Nazi policy.

Morning all. I’m sipping some Jack Daniels coffee as I surf around the internet this morning. Wanted to post a picture of the pretty can but I have to do too much crap on the iPad to even try, and every time I figure out imgur or some other site it seems like it changes. Anyhow, fairly decent, but next time I’ll just stick to tipping in a little Jack if I wanna.

Still unloading stuff. We are now at the point of trying to talk ourselves into hanging pictures on these beautiful untouched walls. 😀 The only thing I didn’t throw or give away from the old house was my pictures, and I love them. It’s blah without art or photography or stuff on the walls. Most of what I have is way to big and heavy for command strips, so I have to suck it up and put up some pictures!

We had the kids and grandkids over Saturday and all the grandkids are so thrilled to have their own room. The boys promptly named it The Boys’ Room and it was hilarious to hear our little two and a half year old grandson, who spent the night, tell us he was going to the boys’ room as he ran off for more toys. The girls, when they get wind of this, are sure to protest, but they are outnumbered.

Anyhow, one of our central hopes for our new home was to make a place here for the children to be at home as well. We are enjoying that. They also love the pond that is just a hop from our patio out the back door. So, first family gathering went well, and I still remember how to cook! On that note, I highly recommend a beef Guinness stew this time of year.

Menagerie, so glad you are enjoying all the great things about your new home. It’s certainly true about walls looking blank without art and homey items hanging about. Perhaps the boys can assist with the choices for their room if you set out groupings of possibilities.

My art collection covers most of my walls but there are still items in closets and under beds. I’ve thought of putting them up for auction, but can’t cope with the reality of parting. I am contemplating giving some small pieces to one of my nieces who will be visiting me next week. Problem there is she’ll have to take them back over the border and you never know what the customs guys will decide re valuables. Honestly, why is it any of their business, anyway? It’s just one more way to get money out of us.

My sister lived in Canada. She painted beautiful pictures. She gave some to my mom and dad to bring to some friends in the U.S. Mom was supposed to send the ones back that they didn’t want. My sister found out that the Canadian Customs were going to charge her hundreds of dollars to bring them back into Canada. So, she refused them and they were returned to my mom.

There are times when I send things home with family that customs checks everything in the car thoroughly, unpacking boxes, etc. Other times they just wave you across without doing anything but look at your passports. Weird.

When you bring animals across the border they must have recent (within 10 days) vet papers declaring they’ve had their shots and are disease free. Half the time they don’t even check the declarations. But just try bringing across an animal without those papers…that’d be the time they would demand every proof possible. LOL!

Now, I understand the need not to have diseased animals go from country to country. But if you have by law to get the animals checked and certified, the border people should at least look at the declarations.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
