Well the city of New Orleans has politically solved the problem of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse – they’ve brought in experts from outside of the city. That way if it all goes to hell they can all point to the left and say it was some furriner’s fault.

Biggest problem now is the two huge construction cranes towering over the half demolished bulding. Both are moving slightly, one more than the other, and if they topple they’ll cause massive destruction not seen downtown since Katrina. The horizontal jib, counterweight and apex of each crane weighs over 145,000 pounds – and then there’s the vertical mast. So far even the largest crane company in the US can’t figure out what to do BUT someone’s come up with an idea – controlled demolition.

Sometime tomorrow some company that’s been planting charges will push a button and the towers will ‘implode’. Don’t ask me how you implode a giant vertical crane tower with a monstrous horizontal arm without making one helluva mess but my job was making things go boom period, no requirement for neatness. If you look at the pictures (just Google ‘Hard Rock New Orleans’ and stand back) those cranes are where they’ll be when they’re blown, the horizontal arms can’t be moved. On the sides of the building are narrowish city streets and other buildings, including the nextdoor Saenger theater that has just undergone a multimillion dollar renovation and is close enough to already have received roof damages from the original collapse.

City’s racing a possible tropical storm that would have rain coming in as early as 6 AM Friday and staying until about 6 PM along with winds around 20MPH that would be channeled by surrounding buildings. Looks like they may try to blow it as early as dawn depending on where the rain is in the early AM.

Stay tuned, this should be over by breakfast – I don’t relish the thought of their leaving a set of cranes packed with explosives swaying in the wind but I can’t see them blowing them in the dark either. Oh to live in interesting times but safely outside of a dysfunctional city.

I thought construction cranes were taken down when they were finished and reused. Why is N.O. trying to blow these ones up?

It sounds like a bad idea.

The cranes were used in constructing the new Hard Rock Hotel right downtown. The top floors of the hotel collapsed during the construction and destabilized the cranes, they cannot get an operator safely into them nor can they even try to disassemble them with an outside crane as to do so would further destabilize them and, being smack downtown, if they toppled they’d cause a huge amount collateral damages.

U.S. Marines with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron (VMM-262) conduct flight operations during exercise KAMANDAG 3 over Subic Bay, Philippines on October 12, 2019. KAMANDAG is an acronym for the Filipino phrase “Kaagapay Ng Mga Manirigma Ng Dagat,” which translates to “Cooperation of the Warriors of the Sea,” highlighting the partnership between the U.S. and Philippine militaries.

“Deep in the Heart of Texas

Artist: Studio Bandet – Album: Country Trucking vol. 1

The 1941 song features lyrics by June Hershey and music by Don Swander. The song was recorded by Perry Como with Ted Weems and His Orchestra on December 9 of that year for Decca Records in Los Angeles, California. It was a single release on the flip side of the song “Ollie Ollie Out’s In Free.” “Deep in the Heart of Texas” spent five weeks at the top of Your Hit Parade in 1942.

The song’s title was borrowed for the name of a 1942 Western film starring Johnny Mack Brown as a man instrumental in restoring Texas to the United States following the American Civil War. It featured Tex Ritter and the Jimmy Wakely Trio singing the title song. Gene Autry sang the song in Heart of the Rio Grande (1942) and his version may be the most well known.

With this story, I just can’t.

I made my first solo trip to MI in 2013, and I went to Mission Point while I was there. The lake water level was way down, and some libs who were there were like ‘it’s global warming.’

I went into the lighthouse and read the water chart. Last time the water was as low as it was in 2013 was…1963. So I understood it to be that Lake Michigan cycles with water level. Sure enough, every once in a while since 2013, I heard that the lake had gone up a few inches.

I don’t know if I should laugh, or what:

As an old boater, I can confirm that the lake levels fluctuate radically over the years – up and down. I remember how the marina where a friend kept his boat had to raise the docks because the water level was so high that they were partially covering their rear parking lot. Then the water level went down. This was in the 1980’s sometime. Anybody who lives, works or plays on the Great Lakes is aware of the lake levels, and knows that they vary by year. The climate alarmists will use anything to get attention, and hope that most people are ignorant.

City of New Orleans dodged a bullet this morning, the storm moved on a more easterly track, sparing it the winds and rain predicted. Wind is below 15 MPH from the NE, possibility of rain is sharply lowered and the new expected demolition time of about noon tomorrow – the boom time’s been moved forward 24 hours . I wonder if the weatherguessers may have given the public the more titillating prediction out of the ‘cone of expectation’ to play into the excitement. Naaaah, never happen.

Mayor announced the 24 hour delay in a news conference where she spent the first 5 minutes using her personal pronouns telling us what she did…then getting on to the issue of the demolition. She used ‘I’, ‘me’, or ‘myself’ and avoided the ‘we’, ‘they’ or ‘us’. Usual politician. Fire chief, who seems to be the face who’ll be remembered if this all goes south, is right up there next to her. It becomes a mees then he’ll be put in front of her when the press beatings start and if it all goes well he’s close enough for the mayor to jump in front and take the credit.

    Seen on Facebook:

MY WIFE AND I WERE SURPRISED THAT ACCORDING TO A NUMBER OF POPULATION SURVEYS, MY WIFE IS CLASSIFIED AS HISPANIC AND NOT WHITE.

Now I don’t care about race, but I like things to be accurate. Yes, my wife’s pre-marriage family name ended in an “o”, but she was born and raised in Italy, in a Jewish family that we have traced back hundreds and hundreds of years, her mother’s family from Austria and he father’s family that came to Italy from Cordova Spain in 1492. BUT in the USA, it seems somehow she is classified as “Hispanic”.

So, I made some inquiries, and found that a large number of people in the USA have been classified as Hispanic based on their family names alone, whether really Spanish or not, people whose families originated in Spain, Portugal, or Italy, and who are and have always been White, yet when some people talk about the US becoming less white, whole groups of these people are considered non-White.

So be careful of these kinds of statistics when you read them on line or in your local newspaper.

You might find things like a whole lot fo Jews, Cuban Jews, Venezuelan Jews, Latin American Jews, many Sephardic Jews, Italian Jews, possibly 600,000 of them in the USA, though they came originally from Poland, Lithuania, and Russia, or Turkey and Greece, are listed as non-White or Hispanic.

Or among Gentiles, people like Florida Senator Marco Rubio and his wife, whose families originated in Spain and even Northern Europe, are Hispanic and non-White. Many people with Italian names, Hispanic.

Watch out for statistics unless they define exactly what they mean.

In race obsessed USA, this is just very sad.

I never understood what a Hispanic is even supposed to be. It’s it’s okay line on forms that list “Latino” on them.

Here’s an idea that’s gone out with race-baiting libs: if you are an American citizen, you’re an American.

If you’re in America and don’t want to be American, or you want to be a hyphenated American, get out.

I was doing some laundry today. The washer is in my kitchen. I found a puddle on the floor, so I called the office and reported the leak. Within minutes there were two maintenance guys at my door. They took the front off the washer and couldn’t find anything, so started looking around for something else. It turned out to be a water bottle that was sitting near the washer that had a very tiny hole in it and was slowly leaking. About that time two more maintenance guys came in with tools in their hands. I said, I guess the four of you ought to be able to fix a leaky water bottle. They had a good laugh. They said it had been a slow afternoon today. LOL

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
