    Ahhhhh…the uniqueness of rural life.

    I was coming back, late this afternoon, from buying lottery tickets and Popeye’s…degree of importance not necessarily represented by order listed. Anyway, just a bit after I crossed back into rural Mississippi from rural Louisiana the side of the road drops about 15 feet on a sharp slope down into some grassy wetland. My peripheral vision drew my attention to two young feral hogs, about 50-60 pounds each, down in the bottoms just grazing away on grass, oblivious to the traffic.

    About another hundred feet up the road an older pickup truck parked on the shoulder and a guy about my age, what looked like a Ruger .44 magnum in his hand down by his side, slowly walking back to where the hogs were. Someone’s gonna have tender and fresh pork tomorrow…

      Newest addition to our property is a pair of foxes living about halfway down the hill. We see them more than the deer and turkey.

        We were enjoying our two “known” foxes a few months back until a number of our other critters began disappearing……….fawns, baby turkeys, and my possum. Not a problem anymore. There will be order at Rancho el Gordito. 😉

          I haven’t seen a turkey in years and we used to have a few. I haven’t seen the possums lately but I know they’re still here as persimmon tree sprouts are still popping up.

          Deer should still be around though I haven’t seen any, with the deep brush we have and the lake it’s perfect for them. There’s just too much acreage around for them to wander in. Come hunting season and the does should be moving in closer for safety.

        Every now and then I see foxes and bobcats as we have that strange chicken ranch on the lake but they don’t generally come over this side.

        We did have at least one bobcat that used to come around and mark up territory but between our cats and dogs redoing his graffiti I guess he was outclassed.

        Found this the other day re baseball…

        Vin Scully is 91 (born November 29, 1927) – He spent 67 seasons calling games for the Los Angeles Dodgers, beginning in 1950 for the Brooklyn Dodgers and ending in 2016.

        In November 2017, Scully stated that he would “never watch another NFL game again” due to some of the league’s players kneeling during the playing of the national anthem prior to games

      When I heard about the all-female spacewalk my first thought was, oh, good grief…SJW in space. Now we’ve got spacey lesbian squabbles with one using NASA equipment to check up on her ex!! Being a heralded celebrity, she apparently felt entitled to spend our money on her private business.

      And get this quote from Mark Sundahl, director of the Global Space Law Center at Cleveland State University (are we funding them, too…doesn’t NASA have a legal department full of folks who should be totally up on global space law–whatever that might entail?)…

      “The more we go out there and spend time out there,” Mr. Sundahl said, “all the things we do here are going to happen in space.”

      No, they’re not…or they certainly shouldn’t. Why should we put up with any of that dreck? Did any previous astronaut have marital squabbles spill over into the work of NASA? Not that I’ve ever heard of. They were all a pretty well disciplined bunch. Why should today’s astronauts be given a pass for poor behavior?

        Whole thing is off. I can’t put my finger on it but there is more to the story and to Byrne’s involvement (or lack thereof).

        Here is my theory on Byrne.

        He took a bunch of information that has been floating around in the public domain and interwove himself into the story. He certainly is a player in some aspect, dated Butina and has some insider information.

        A “non-traditional role” with intelligence 🤔.

        People say “I” rather than “someone” because in their mind it gives credence to the story.

        Buffett made a statement “No knowledge” of what Byrne is talking about.

        Colleagues are worried about him.

        This is interesting:

        A US official told CNN on Thursday that Byrne met earlier this year with Justice Department officials and shared with them similar information about a romantic relationship with Butina encouraged by the FBI. The US official said that the Justice Department officials Byrne met with found aspects of Byrne’s story to be believable in part because he shared operational details that were not widely known.
