An interesting little Rand report: https://www.rand.org/pubs/research_reports/RR3140.html?utm_source=WhatCountsEmail&utm_medium=RAND%20Policy%20Currents+AEM:%20%20Email%20Address%20NOT%20LIKE%20DOTMIL&utm_campaign=AEM:631600804

It’s on what Americans spend on illegal drugs. What interests me is the huge increase in drug issues while Obama was in office, especially when he opened the US to the cartels with his US/Mexico trade deals. That I-35 initiative opened the main north-south interstate between Mexico and the cartel office in Chicago and flooded the Midwest.

At some distant point in the future someone will dig thru the Obama Era records, if they haven’t been destroyed, and a lotta stuff’s going to come flooding out. During those eight years he was in office drug use shot up – no pun intended – and Mexico went into overdrive supplying crack and heroin. I’m not sure it was a coincidence but I’m sure there’s no way any mortal’s gonna get into what records remain.

His shrunken size, while sitting reminds me of photos of my father and how we were shocked at his reduced size in family photo. He had cancer.

Barry’s shrunkeness reminds me of pics of friend’s brother dying from aids.

The shrunkeness also reminds me of every pic of loved ones, in their old age. Start to notice on people when reach mid-seventies. Photo evidence had people speculating back in 2008 that Barry was ten, maybe even fifteen years older than he was claiming.

In the 70’s in Miami there was an air show offering rides on an acrobatic plane. I bought one for a friend for his birthday (he was a total airplane nut) but never for a moment thougt of taking a ride myself.

Absolutely NO to any daredevil stuff but my hat’s off to anyone who does it for a living.

Outside of large airliners, of course, I’ve only been in regular small jets like a Lear or in helicopters…and I’d rather be on any craft that flies out of a fixed base operation than go to an airport terminal…dealing with that mess kills my nerves.

Our Gulfport airport is teriffic! Takes a a couple of minutes to check in, walk a few steps to the escalator, TSA s a breeze taking almost no time, then right to the plane! Friendly people who look at me and smile! I may pay a little more than going out of New Orleans’ much larger airport, which takes 1/2 hour to park, then a walk into the terminal, stand in lines to check in, at least an hour in the TSA line no matter what time of day, and a REALLY long walk to the gate. Drive time is the same either way.

And seeing these always immediately drives me back to the airshow at Hill AFB where the Thunderbird pilot had a malfunction and, rather than risk crashing into the crowds watching the show, rode the F-16 into a plowed field at the south of the runway. There was no hope of his surviving and he had to know that as he rode it in but he did anyway. Like this pilot he could have ejected but his course probably would have taken the pilotless plane into the crowd of housing areas around the runway.

The crowd saw the pilot steer the plane into the field and die rather than chance injuring them or others and I’m sure it made as lasting an impression on them as it did me.

Yes, it was well written. And once again, the president sends the media running off someplace to comment extensively on something he said, while he is working on great things they didn’t notice (or didn’t want to talk about).

    10) Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
    __Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
    His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

Good morning lovely, and thanks for the smiles. Been wondering what Wee’s ex boss was up to. And the poem is a well loved favorite of many for good reason. Once you’ve read it, that last verse lives in your mind.

If you ever sit just at the edge of the woods at twilight and watch the beams of sunlight on the ground seem to dance as they fade away, and the darkness deepen, you’ll know what he writes about. It’s compelling. Why settle for tv when you could watch that?

The 1950s housing tract where I lived for 27 years in Los Angeles was total big city, of course, being five blocks from a major freeway. To the west of our house, which was at the end of a cul-de-sac, was a hill over which the sun would shine at the end of the day. Many homes had the original trees planted in 1950 and they were very tall and thick.

One late afternoon as the sun was giving its last rays over the hill, I took the dog out for his walk, looked up and the trees ahead of me were all shimmering gold. It was startling and eerie, even otherworldly. I’d never seen such a spectacle before and stood gazing at the scene until the sun disappeared. An absolutely fabulous moment in time, but I never saw it again.

You give me deep thoughts this morning lovely. I am struggling with the idea that I want to be closer to the city and family when we move, partly because I fear loneliness in my old age. But none, absolutely none, of the suburban homes have any appeal to us. We want to live in the country.

Your poem makes me see the dilemma a little more clearly. Thank you. I’m pretty sure I won’t trade days of joy for the safe, easy path.

We bought land “in the country” because Czar hated the city/suburbs, all those people “too close”. I considered it a fine adventure. We built a house with lots of room in the kitchen and great room so people could visit us and be comfortable, and planted and improved the land so they could enjoy it as much as we do. We have neighbors in the vicinity of a 1/2 mile radius. Family don’t visit us, we go see them. They want to live in the cities, we are good here. Lesson: do what’s right for you.

      “The original parkour”
Czar mentioned the local tv station’s series about the “Forgotten East”. One of the complaints they have is there is not enough for children to do. Well, when I grew up in the suburbs, we had yards to run around on, ride bikes, skate on the sidewalks, play hide and seek or basketball, spend the afternoon in someone’s pool, do tumbling and dance contests, play board games…. What these people say is they want the city recreation dept. to set up standardized, organized activities. Foo! Have they lost initiative and imagination!

There were side canyons up Ogden canyon in Utah that, for most of the year, were totally uninhabited by hikers. We’d hike them in Spring when everything was blooming for a few days and then in Fall when they were damp, darker and had streams of clouds hanging or slowly moving through. They were stark, wild and beautiful.

Your mountain lake picture reminded me of that, long gone now for us and I’m sure they’re now infected with the Left Coast parasites who’ve so dirtied their own nest they’ve had to move to new areas to soil.

Thanks, lovely, for our 10 SMILES of the day! #9 is Waterfowl Lake in Banff, Alberta…a favorite spot where my parents vacationed several times. The Banff area is one of the most beautiful places on earth.

Which reminds me of #7–a walk in the woods by my mother and sister. One time in a Canadian wood (Manitoba probably) they were out for a walk on a sunny day and passed by an abandoned cabin with the side door open. Mom heard a strange sound like a pig grunting coming from the cabin. She remarked about it to my sister who stopped, listened, then said, “Just turn around and we’ll walk back down the path. That’s a bear. Don’t make any sudden moves.” My sister, being an avid backwoods hiker and wildlife observer was used to nature’s sounds. Mom said she’d never forget how calm Sis was.

#10, The simplicity of Frost’s poem is enchanting.

It’s probably cold, unfeeling and insensitive for me to say so but I will anyway.

Remember my post of a week ago regarding the local anchorwoman who died when the stunt plane she was riding in crashed? Well since then the top story on EVERY station on EVERY news broadcast has been about her and some part of her life, everyone’s trying to get a piece of it to claim as unique and their own. It’s been an ENDLESS drumbeat.

Well today the noon news on her channel, all 60 minutes of it, is devoted to her memorial service where a seemingly endless line of speakers will tell us how special she was (and by association and extension) they are. Nya Nya Nya, I was closer to her than YOU were!

I’m hoping this is the end to it though I believe that it will taper off and be revived on select dates, including anniversary dates. She took a known risk chasing a story, she rode in a stunt plane and even those reporters flying with the Thunderbirds and Blue Angels, planes that have meticulous maintenance, have to sign waivers – this ain’t like riding bumper cars in the park. At the same time how many fathers/mothers have been murdered in the ongoing innercity crime plague, leaving the surviving spouse or, more commonly, grandparent(s) to raise the surviving children? They get 2 minutes of coverage sometime before the weather broadcast and then it’s over, fini. A double standard for sure.

This morning a drunk woman (drunk at 8 a.m.!) ran into a school bus (had already dropped off the kids) which caused the bus to careen into a law enforcement vehicle. She was so drunk she thought she was in Baton Rouge, not 70 miles away in Slidell. She has a history of DUIs. She is 26 years old. The only good news is the drivers weren’t seriously injured.

Several years ago a drunk woman (also with a history of DUI) ran into the car driven by a local high school cheerleader, leaving the girl severely injured for life. Doesn’t matter what the adjudicated punishment is for her, it’ll never be as bad.
