11:30 at night and while letting a dog out to…whatever…I noticed a medium size airplane at about 800 feet flying zig zag patterns over the area. I firs saw it in the NE flying SSW about 1 mile to our west. About four minutes later it’s traveling south to north right over the east side of our property and then about 5 minutes after that from NE to south about two miles east of us.
It’s too big for a private plane (unless you’re rich)and it has very bright nav lights. It’s VERY quiet, stacks are muffled, and that’s unusual in itself for a private prop-driven plane. Closest airports are about 20 miles west and 20 miles SSE and they are smallish general aviation. But then, why would some private pilot with an expensive custom plane be flying low altitude patterns over farm/ranch land in the middle of the night? Best I can figure is DEA flying with IR cameras looking for grow houses but there are cheaper ways to find them out here than that.

Seems like there just be a second option. I agree there are cheaper ways to find grow houses. The second option is likely more intrusive and nefarious than the first option.

Then again intrusiveness, nefariousness and expense don’t seem to be issuers with the Feds.
I forgot, DEA has its air base just about 30 miles west of us.

On a brighter note……Woo Hoo!! Just got my schedule for the rural county fair next month! This ain’t no big fancy ‘un, it’s sorta more like the ones in the 40s and 50s. We gotta hall with the canning contest/exhibition as well as arts. Kids’ll be showing their 4H projects as ranchers their best stocks. We even have a rodeo that will not only have some local national-champs but lots of up and coming who’ll be getting the living **** knocked out of some. All in our own little intimate setting.
Oh yeah, town’s having a Tea Fest in October too. It’s new, should be centering on sweet tea, and is probably partially inspired by a local tea plantation. Things are picking up as fall approaches.

Love county fairs — they have something similar here, but it’s designed more like a mini-carnival. I remember several country fairs (and rodeos) when I lived in Texas. Great fun and lots to see and do.
LikeLiked by 6 people
They have a traveling carnival for rides, games & carney food. I go to see the animals, the quilting, canning and pie baking, as well as the rodeo.

What I really like about this is it’s really country. The largest cities are over 20 miles in either direction (both around 11,000 population) so it’s rural with real country folks on both sides of the tables/fences – there are more pickups in the lot than cars.
I like taking the GGS as you can actually get right up into the pens with the stock. Not actually ‘in’ with the bigger stock but the only thing separating you is a 4-pipe fence. We have a small traveling carnival ride show that comes but the real draw is the fair itself, local people showing basically what they live on a daily basis.

Yes indeed, it’s sweet tea but that’s what we’re all about. This is the first one, they’re trying to kick this off as a balance to the blueberry festival, but what do you need other than a glass?

Sounds like a whole lotta fun 🙂 . I’ll never forget the first time this Yankee tried sweet tea !!!

Whenever I go out I always order water with my unsweetened tea because many times I get sweet tea, even though I’ve learned to order UNNNsweet tea. It’s like some of them just won’t do it. Or they refill with sweet tea. So, I always have a water back up.

I bring my own tea bag with English Breakfast with me, if the restaurant only has tutti-frutti teas or Lipton I ask for a hot water and offer to pay for a tea.
Imagine how mortifying that was for teenage girls 😂. I can still see their eyes rolling and hearing “Mum”!!

My father used to drink pots of coffee. He was in the Navy and that was common. Later in life he tried to get off the caffeine and he had the same problem, headaches. So, until he died at 92, he had to have one cup of coffee a day. I don’t think that hurt him, though.

I went to Florida one year to help take care of my aunt, and was staying with my cousins. I had a headache that I just couldn’t shake. It wasn’t until my aunt and I stopped at the Target cafe for a cup of coffee that it dawned on me that I had been drinking decaf for two days! My headache went away immediately.

I drink highly caffeinated tea. I can get by with one cup but I’ll wake up with a headache the next day. 2 seems to be my minimum.

Sometimes when I am up in the middle of the night I spend time at the window by my bed looking at the moon through the trees. It’s a favorite sight of mine, moonwatching in the deep of night. You get 24/7 beauty when you live out in the country.

The weathercaster said it was a full sturgeon moon, named because sturgeon were plentiful in lakes & rivers in August. Apparently there is a green corn moon coming, as well.

Never heard of a “sturgeon” moon but have heard of a “loon” moon.
Said by some to be an old wives’ tale, my father said it seems to be true that many developmentally disabled and mentally ill folk are more restless when there’s a full moon…that’s, of course, where “looney” came from. At the disabled hospital where he worked, otherwise non-violent patients would become unpredictable, and the violent took extra care at that time. Quite strange.

10) William Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Thou art more lovely and more temperate:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May,
And summer’s lease hath all too short a date:
Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines,
And often is his gold complexion dimmed,
And every fair from fair sometime declines,
By chance, or nature’s changing course untrimmed:
But thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st,
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in his shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st,
So long as men can breathe, or eyes can see,
So long lives this, and this gives life to thee.

Poor Roger. I relate. My son had a beloved Golden Retriever named Clyde. First food he stole was a steak right off the grill when he was puppy. Being young, rather impoverished, and indignant, my son went after the dog and took the steak back.
I don’t care how much you wash a steak, the dog wins on that one. Anyhow, they had many battles over the years over food theft, and Clyde got trickier. Once I sent a whole loaf of my sourdough, fresh baked, home with my son. He got none of it, and I got a slouchy, I am trying to be ashamed and penitent but really I’m not picture of Clyde with the scraps of foil and crumbs.
Good memories lovely, thanks for bringing them back. My son partnered up with Clyde when he was a very young man, and they had so many active adventures together. He was a faithful friend and companion, and when I picture my son during those years, in my mind he’s always with Clyde. As a much more mature and settling into family life man, he had to be with Clyde and let him go. It was the hardest thing he ever had to do.
Sometimes families get centered in a really good way around our doggies.

True Menagerie. We had a food thief growing up, Bergie, large German Shepard (supposedly wolf) mix.
My mom was a baker and she made me a beautiful birthday cake, she put it out on the enclosed stairwell that led to our backyard because the fridge was full of other birthday goodies.
I let Bergie out. Long story short, it was the year without a birthday cake.
Thank you for sharing some of your adventures with Clyde 🙂 !

Fun SMILES, lovely! 1) Would have definitely worn the green dress, sans the lattice boots but with platforms. We wore our skirts uber mini like these but NEVER without pantyhose…and those often would be color coordinated.
2) Love berries.
3) & 8) Poor doggies…li’l rat baby is insecure and rather cowed. Some dogs lick fabric because it has the owner’s scent and this little angel is using the couch in the same way Linus uses his blanket…comfort and security. As for Roger, when a dog owner barbecues, how about buying some cheap hamburger and cook it at the same time for their fav canis? Our furry friends are family, too.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Gen. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
