Vacation and summertime chores, I am betting. Plus there is lots going on family wise with VBS, summer camps, etc. People are outside and doing stuff. Which is where I gotta go in a hot minute.

Gotta make hay when you can. I’m still in a seemingly endless process of moving (how could SO many boxes of…stuff…come out of such a small house?!?). And though we’ve moved to a somewhat larger place, it’s a much classier joint, requiring the replacement of our Craigslist-level furniture with new and classier pieces. That actually match. Yeah, $$$$$ out the wazoo. And 4-6 weeks for delivery, even after driving to the big city (ok, Anchorage, which is big for us) to buy it. Now patiently (or not) awaiting delivery in only one more week.
Meanwhile I took on the insane chore of creating a slideshow from the collected photographs of the 18 members of our tour group to the Holy Land last month. What was I thinking? Fortunately only 7 people submitted their pix. Between 500 and 1,000 EACH. I stopped counting when the collection passed 2,000. The project has chewed up several entire days, with more to come. Trying to get it done by this weekend, which is a tall order. DH shakes his head and says “whatever possessed you to take this on?” I don’t have a good answer. Someone needed to, and no one else was stepping forward. But it’s fun, in a painstaking sort of way. Makes me look forward to getting back to unpacking boxes and organizing the new house.
Anyway, dear friends, that’s why I haven’t been around as much lately. This, too, shall pass. I hope your summer is going well. We’re enjoying the most beautiful weather we’ve had in years. Sunshine, blue skies and 70’s.

Yeah, we did at about 12 years ago, and I don’t think we threw anything out! We started by packing up billions of books and putting them in a storage unit, to be moved to the house when it was completed. Then there were rarely used dishes and glassware and utensils, and stuff in boxes we had not opened in a while (and may not have looked at since). And on & on. I feel your pain…

It’s summertime and everybody loves a grilled burger. Found this guy’s recipe and it looks great.
Stella, have you thought about a favorite summertime grilled burger (maybe sides?) thread? This video has me thinking that just our plain old grilled burgers ought to get a little love.

I have had bison burgers several times this past week, with my mushrooms in mustard cream sauce. So delicious! I wish that ground bison wasn’t almost as expensive as steak, though. You can buy it at Costco, if you’re interested.

We used to buy it in Utah, they had bison ranches there a long time ago, but it was expensive then. We can get it here but it’s more expensive than ribeye and all considered…
The guy ewe bought our land from used to have bison. He had cattle and thought a few bison would pep the place up so he brought them in and turned them loose. Didn’t take him long to discover that a bison can easily jump a standard cattle fence and after having to round them up and bring them home a few times he decided to get rid of them and just stick with cattle.

Some 34 years after its last tepid foray into the Armenian Genocide issue the UN is getting serious – they set a letter to the Turkish UN representative on the matter!
The usual excuse is that it was the Ottoman Empire that massacred at least 1.5 million Christians and the Empire is gone now. Of course the genocide continued well into the 20s, even the 30s if you don’t accept the apologist’s altered timelines, but hey, that’s all history.
We didn’t see the Turks doing much to prevent the massacre of thousands of Christians and other non-Moslems by ISIS in the Levant but hey, they were to busy killing Kurds so you can understand their being distracted.
From the Armenians (and Greeks and Assyrians) who were massacred by the Turks to the Christians/non-Christians murdered by ISIS, these groups had lived side-by-side with the Moslems for centuries and then…one day…
Now we’re importing thousands of Molems from areas where organized pogroms/genocides against non-Moslems have been recent history. We, however, are only importing the good ones, the ones that honor diversity and inclusion, the ones that will let American sweetness, light and sense of liberty overcome the corrosive doctrines of Islam.

Fam back in Neola (Iowa) raised Holsteins (milk cows), and heaven help ya if you made those cows run. Running disturbed the milk production, or so we were told.
That little heifer – Charolais? – is so cute, just like a cute little puppy. Only bigger!

New Orleans, the never-ending reality show.
This morning downtown residents along one street awakened to find nearly two dozen of their cars vandalized. Video showed a young woman, armed with a steel rod, smashing car windows, tail/headlights, rearview mirrors and door handles. Residents called the police and had to leave their cars in place as police wrote reports the owners needed to make insurance claims. Many of the cars were so damaged that they couldn’t legally be driven and owners were awaiting tow trucks to haul them to shops.
Not to be outdone the NOPD meter maids went down the street and TICKETED the disabled cars as NOPD wrote accident reports the owners needed to file insurance claims.. An unofficial spokesdrone said that the city would look into cancelling the tickets but when I was getting nastygrams from the city when our department refused to pay parking tickets the city parkingjerks gave marked patrol units on duty.

We had a black city councilman on the news tonight telling us this whole dustup about black teens being out of control and committing crimes is alllllll outta proportion. He claims thev 66 thugettes the city arrested are far from the huge gangs of thugs the residents fear – “there are only 66 arrests!”, he says.
Of course the fact that the crimes go on even after these 66 were arrested and that these 66 were ALL THE PD COULD FIND AND ARREST completely skips through his logic as he tap dances across the public stage.

I can remember years ago when ‘the answer’ was a curfew (we’ve got another one). The SO and PD picked up every juvenile who was playing hooky or out after a certain time. We had so many juvies crammed into the building we had to stop picking up and so few parents came to pick up their spawn that they were camping at the building.
The press covered it until someone said it was bordering on racist to broadcast the parent’s lack of involvement, the city saw the process as unsustainable and just quietly abandoned it. Sonnafter the next answer was midnight basketball.
