The pilot is, of course, Eddie Rickenbacker and the plane a French Nieuport.
For those not familiar with him, here’s a good overview that’s not from Wiki–from which I’m trying to wean myself…https://allthatsinteresting.com/eddie-rickenbacker

Good mornin’ all Stellars/friends…yeah, I know, it’s kind very, very early (1:32am) but the only time I will have today to jump in and say hi.
Thought I’d leave a little blessing of poem and a gorgeous song that wraps up in a heavenly climax of music glory!
Shalom and may you all have a most blessed and successful day!
PS: Menagerie….just waaaaitin’ for your next post!
A SONG UPON THE MIDNIGHT SEA
Shh…Listen
Crystals glisten
The siren of the Sea
The whispering wind
The wailing song of a tearful end
Is heard once again in the tempests of night
Beneath kissing stars of a glorious Light
Bespeaking the love of a union arising
The wings and the flight of a dove now surprising…
All of Earth quiet
All of Earth sleeping
All of Mortality beneath Heaven’s keeping
The Mystery of Law and Love’s Revelation
Suddenly opened as Time’s Revocation
A Season of turning and fiery Embers
Falling from heights as History remembers
The way of the wind and breath of humanity
The darkness and void of pride and its vanity
But Love conquers all this Silent Night
Stars in the midst of a Wonder and Bright
Perfection of Lights in its glorious Reign
The ceasing of suffering, toil and pain…

I like to think in these gardening terms:
PDJT is going to heavily spray some Round-Up (AG Barr & John Durham) on the poison ivy. (DS swamp.)
LikeLiked by 2 people
LOL! True! But as Aus discerned, the Dems are going to try to do as much damage as possible before they are called out. We know the fake media will cover for them; but it’s going to be just too big not to have an impact.

As much as I stay furious at criminal elites, agencies, Hollywood, academia, I hold LSM/MSM more responsible because they cover up the sins of all the others. All the other groups get away with what they do because media, the fourth estate, has completely transformed into the fifth column.
But things are coming to an intense boiling point and something is going to blow and give one way or the other in the not-too-distant future.
I believe God Almighty’s hand and outstretched arm will be a major part of that equation. Evil can test Him only so long before He reacts to man’s defections, stubborn will and pride. God will not be mocked forever.
End of sermon for the day. 😉🕯🙏

The bane of my gardening existence can be summed up in one word: chickweed. So delicate that you try to pull it out if the ground and is breaks off leaving the roots intact, and hardy enough to grow through dense foliage and choke out the flowers. Grrrrr.

Hey there. I decided to try some fermenting, and ordered a book about fermenting and canning (which I already do). Thought I would try fermenting vegetables to start with. Have you tried that? Also watched this video this morning. She is very into healthy diet:

KImchee and kraut, both fermented manna. Kimchee comes in dozens of varieties, not just the usual cabbage version you find in stores but other mixes too.
I have a small fridge I’ll use for a fermentor and a fermentation pot with a water lock. I also bought a cheap temperature control that has a probe inside of the fridge that is far more reliable in temp control than the fridge’s, the range of temps for good fermentation is narrower than the thermostat in the fridge.
There are places online where you can get the exact cultures for what you’re fermenting, I find them more reliable than using whatever floats in. I have a wonderful kraut and kimchee organic mix that’s shipped and sold chilled and it has great cultures in it. Enjoy.

With the house in such uproar right now due to all my painting, which has involved tons of sanding in the kitchen, I have put off doing fermented vegetables. I plan to try perhaps sauerkraut and fermented pickles soon.
I have all the supplies, those glass weight thingies, vented lids, but just need to do it when I get through making messes here. All I have going is kefir and kombucha. I started with those two because the group I used to meet with told me they were the easiest and best things to start with, and wow, they could not be easier. Pour milk over grains for kefir, brew teas for kombucha.
Two suggestions I do have. When you get the fermented vegetables going, the juice from them is like powerful medicine, especially if you are sick. Most of the people in that group I met with routinely drank the juice from their ferments, and it is supposed to be great for health and healing.
Second, here is a website, also recommended by people who got me started on this. I did not buy any of her stuff, but she has great recipes. A friend gave me my first scoby and I got kefir grains on Amazon. However, the friend who gave me the scoby recommends her stuff, and I likely will buy the culture she sells for vegetables when I start them.
There are hundreds of tips and recipes on her site, and she knows a lot about what and why the ferments help you.

BTW, i read somewhere, and it was probably on that site I listed, that after some time on fermented foods, as your gut begins to get healthier, lactose intolerant people can often drink kefir and it is good for them, but wherever I read it, they recommend not doing it until being on FF awhile, and then starting slow.
Fermentation supposedly does something with lactose.
One of the recommended fermented foods, to my surprise and pleasure, is also sourdough bread.
LikeLike
The fermenting process probably involves converting the lactose. Hard cheeses have very little lactose, and I can eat them in moderation. Dairy that is higher in fat has less lactose; I was surprised to learn that, but I think the lactose is primarily contained in the whey.

Mornin’ everyone. I don’t want to bore you guys, so, for a little while at least, this will be my last update on the remodel.
Yesterday the roof went up on the garage, however, the lumber supplier ‘forgot’ to order the overhead garage door. It’s gonna take about two weeks for the door to arrive, so I’ve said goodbye to the carpenters and I’ve called on the electrician and the heating guys to come in and do their part while we wait for the door.
The contractors from last year should be arriving next week to continue the outside work needed on the original portion of the bank building (roofing, concrete work, siding…etc), and I continue on with the renovation work on the inside living space.

I love your updates too! Just the neatest project ever. I didn’t show my husband your garage pictures, he’d die of jealousy.
I’ve made him a promise that if we don’t find a home with a big garage he builds one first thing, and he already wants one as big as a house anyhow!. If he gets his way, he wants to build a 40×40 garage. Needless to say, I’m trying to find a house with a garage.
We found one we like, classic two car garage, plus a whole storage bay for lawn equipment, a really nice space, under the concrete porch. He is looking at a 20′ building to meet his needs since that’s not enough space, he says.
What he really fell in love with is a barndominium with 2160 square foot four bay garage and a generous 500 square foot efficiency apartment. 🙄
I loved that place too, and he’d have had me if it just had a bedroom.

That was my thought too, but barndos are rare around here and exceedingly difficult to finance. We found one last year that we could have bought for a third down, but weren’t ready yet.
They are hot, hot, hot in Texas and it is pretty easy to buy and build them, but mortgage comapanies and banks elsewhere are reluctant because they are so rare you cannot get fair comps for appraisals.
The requirements of my mortgage company for financing were that it had to have eggress windows in the bedroom – no bedroom becoming an even bigger problem, as that meant there would be NO qualified comps, and there had to be a firewall between the garage and the living quarters, which I doubt there was. We had dropped it by then because we don’t have cash to buy it outright. A third down we could do, but not an entire cash purchase.
If we win the lottery, a barno is a dream home in our future. He might get even more than 2000+ in his garage, and I am getting a little more than an efficiency apartment though!

But, please don’t think any of this is boring it is all interesting and neat, especially since you’re not remodeling an existing home but transforming a bank! How awesome is that.
I love the blonde wood 🙂 .

:0) It’s a labor of love lovely and although a lot of what I’ve done is subtle, I do try to honor the history of the building as best I can.
(When the bank first opened for business, the walls were blonde shiplap)

You can see the integrity of what you are doing in every picture that you post. It is warm but still has an industrial feel to it.
Industrial fuzzy! You may be able to get your own show on one of those remodeling networks!

This was a 1940’s metal desk that was left behind by the previous owner…I took out all the dings, fixed the drawers, repainted it and then took one of the original hardwood doors in the bank and cut it down to create my main kitchen counter.

Excellent! I have mostly kitchen drawers, since they are soooo much easier to access. And since I’m short, I put the heavy dishes in drawers to I don’t have to drag them out into my face.

Since I had the vault available to act as my ‘pantry’, I couldn’t see the need for cupboards but I knew I definitely needed drawers and this has worked out really nicely for me.

Yes, food is in the pantry not the cupboards.

If I were to design and build a house, the kitchen would not be huge, but the pantry would, and it would be U shaped, and have a countertop with a few outlets where I could keep and use the crock pot, etc. I’d store food on one side, and big dishes and pots and pans and all my small appliances, excpept coffee pot, in there. The kitchen would therefore not need to be large, and all lower cabinets would be drawers.
I have a very small kitchen now, but lots of drawers including a wide and deep set of pot and pan drawers, so it works.

My house had a big kitchen and plenty of cabinets. After the divorce, I moved into this apt. which has few, narrow, and shallow cabinets. Of course, now I never cook for anybody but me, so I got rid of most of my big pots, etc.

Sounds like a good plan. I once lived in an old house that had a walk-in pantry – it even had a window! I stored everything in there, including linens. It had counters, drawers, upper cabinets and open storage. Good thing, because the kitchen itself – while large – had very little counter and cupboard space.

My childhood home had a walk in pantry including a window. I have good memories of the “possibilities” whenever I stepped in there.

The one thing I hate about my small kitchen (and the one in my last house) is that I only have TWO drawers, and only one of them is large. The second one is a skinny thing not even large enough for silverware.

Our previous house had two smallish drawers as well, in a reasonably sized kitchen from the late 1950’s. Maybe in the 50’s people only needed a few pieces of silverware and a couple of stirring spoons, plus a cake server. Could not figure where they kept their kitchen knives! Oh, yes, and one electtical outlet for the entire kitchen. Needless to say, we built this kitchen with a double outlet every two feet, and twenty-two lower drawers. In the corners I had them put lazy susan cabinets so I don’t have to crawl in on my knees to get things in the back…..

This kitchen was remodeled in 1996, so I can’t imagine how bad it was before. My neighbor rewired the kitchen (and I think installed the new electrical service), so I have five outlets! Actually there are six, if you count the one inside the cupboard where the stove hood/microwave plugs in.
It has a dishwasher, good refrigerator (I bought), small range (30″?; it has a drawer too), and a big microwave. The cupboards are cheap, but newer. I have a big utensil crock, and a wire grid on the only free wall area where I hang many of my pans and a few utensils, hot pads etc. The corner lazy-susan has a mixture of many things – some pans, small appliances, pantry items like oil, vinegar, sugar, flour etc. The side of the frig (out of sight to the dining room) has magnetic hooks for hot pads, towels, rubber gloves etc. The front of the frig has decorative magnetic containers filled with spices and herbs.
It is as pretty as it can be although every inch has stuff.
The last house I lived in was a rental, and the cupboards were solid pine constructed on site in the 1940’s! Fixed shelves, sticking drawers – everything bad. Ancient electric stove, frig/freezer that didn’t freeze very well, no dishwasher.

A friend had a house built and asked to have the kitchen counter lowered a few inches and the cabinets lowered so she could get in them. The builder said he couldn’t. She fired him and found somebody that said, sure and they were done the way she wanted. 🙂

I cooked on a small electric stove in our old house for decades – kitchen hell. When we built this one my first concern was the stove. After lots of looking I settled on a Viking 52″ range top with a huge wok burner in the center. It has a grid on top so it can be used not only for my woks but for large frying pans or pots that can sit on the top, it kicks out around 35,000 BTU and does a number. It makes up for the paucity of close-by eateries.
Problem was finding a table/counter that could hold it. It came to me that what I needed was one of those stainless steel food prep tables so We got one and had a local welder to shorten the legs putting the table, with the range on it, at working height. The east side of the house is designed around it so it’s permanent. Repurposing rules, glad to see the desk and doors didn’t go to waste.

What a fabulous idea czar.

AND there’s a shelf underneath to stack pots and pans on. Worked out great and the prep table supports not only the range unit but a lotta cooking weight. One of my better ideas, sorta balances out some of the ‘oops’.
If you do it just make sure you have a welder with a lot of experience in welding stainless steel or you can have a heck of a problem.

:0) Why is it that the ratio of ‘oops’ is always higher than that of ‘good ideas’?

Ditto. I used to sell Thermador and Sub Zero. Viking is what will be in my apartment in heaven which will feature Marvin windows and doors and have a huge, acres big breezeway seperating the man’s garage from my not an efficiency apartment living quarters. 😀

They apparently don’t make this model anymore, I guess as they marketed it as a wok range – it even came with a huge wok.
Thing is the huge burner in the center accommodates large pots and pans, covering their bottoms with an even flame where on a regular range the get a more concentrated flame centered in the pot that cooks unevenly. It was poor marketing to me.
I can be found with a 13″ frying pan on the center burner with regular pots and/or 10″ fry pans on the other burners. I can’t imagine life without it any more. Cooking holiday dinner for multiple people in our old house is just a bad memory.

I love the sleek look of this too. I have lived in a log cabin for twenty years and love it. I have a few well loved antiques here, but the look is not log cabin rustic, nevertheless.
However, since we have to move, I find myself drawn to light and to sleeker design. I want to get rid of almost everything we own and if I can tie up the husband in the garage, and keep him occupied and happy, I want to try a little more modern, clean look, just exactly like what you have there.

I’ve always leaned towards “traditional” design, and have amazed myself at how easy it has been to move in the direction that I have.
I highly recommend that you go for it.

Just found out that Rose of Sharon blossoms are edible! They are in the same family as marsh mallow, and have the same mucilaginous quality as okra. Supposed to be good for digestion. They can also be dehydrated and used in tea.

And there is room on the shelf under the table/stove top for pots & pans. Oh, yes, I had the counter top next to each side of the stove top made of steel, to handle hot pans!

Next idea to try with the grandkids, if any of my windows get enough sun for it to work. Maybe I can tape the bags up outside on the porch posts or something? Anyhow, I see everyone of the little buggers except the two year old, who is much more into eating food than growing it, being fascinated with this, and watching it grow.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;

thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
