Raining in my area, too. Was surprised and didn’t know it was raining until my neighbor stopped by. She also informed me that at 5:00 AM today there was a police raid on the street behind our complex, gun shots and everything…likely drugs. I slept through the whole thing!

The ‘only’ active commissioned sailing vessel in American military service? How finely are we parsing the definition to eliminate the USS Constitution?
Anyway, would like to again thank the Brown Water Navy for their part in plucking the bobbing residents of New Orleans who decided to ride out Katrina from out of the waters. Y’all were the first here and the rest of the egg beaters showed up well after your birds started working. The numbers of flights, the numbers of people rescued and the condition you operated under won’t be forgotten by the people. The politicians yes, to hear them tell it they swam thru the waters with survivors under each arm and in their teeth, but those few Dolphins that were at the local station led the pack and saved a lot of people.

Czar, agree with your statement, USS Constitution. The Constitution only sails out of its mooring once or twice a year. The Eagle is up and down the coast. Maybe that’s the difference. And Never forget the USS Arizona, Never.
I think Tundra’s husband was a Dolphin driver. Now that is flying, He has my deepest respect.

The Constitution still floats though she’s docked and is still commissioned and has a crew.
We have the USS Alabama in Mobile – those battleships are impressive. Obsolete but still impressive.
The Japanese didn’t have bombs that could effectively penetrate the battleship’s armor so they redesigned their naval battleship shells into bombs, had they not their standard bombs wouldn’t have made anywhere near the damage they did.

DH was never a fly-boy, and doesn’t much like helicopters. Most of his 24-year career was in Marine Inspection. He sailed on the barque Eagle as a cadet at the Coast Guard Academy. That was in the late 60s and early 70s, when safety harnesses were not used. He hated having to climb into the rigging to change sail. By the time his son was a cadet, 30 years later, harnesses were required.

I was trying to be kind…the Navy folks I was attached to used ‘Brown Water’ in sort of a more camaraderie way, they saved Puddle Pirate for more…formal…discussions.
You ain’t lived until you’ve been in a chopper that’s lost power and autorotates down, or flown in a Latin American-maintained helicopter, or flown in an Egyptian maintained and piloted obsolete Russian helicopter. I know why I don’t win the lottery, I’ve used up all of my luck.

Czar, that was my first challenge in flight school, auto rotation. After a couple of rough landings, my IP cued me in……stop flying , just control the speed of decent and try too re start the machine……..equal pressure on the pedals, pitch, yaw………

I had a chance to go helicopter driver in ’68 when the Army just couldn’t get enough but I was looking at an early out and a job. That dream vanished so it was my ‘always dream’, Combat Engineer…playing in the dirt with big boy toys.
In all I don’t regret not going aviation as the attrition rate was large and I had zero common sense and probably wouldn’t have grand and great grandkids. God and the Army, not necessarily in that order, had other plans for me.

We’ve been monitoring the lake levels on the only road we have to get out now. Yesterday while looking at all the debris and junk in the water as it was skirting the road I noticed something that didn’t look like debris.
We stopped and it was a duck with her 8 babies all swimming behind her. Something cute to break up all the ugly.

This wolf came out of the woods, crossed in front us. A big grey. His nose was on the center double white, tail was on single white line. Never went outside at night without my Beretta.

The parts of Charleston that survived are so lovely. Savannah is much prettier though, and almost completely preserved, the old part of the city. I love it so. Like to go stay at Tybee island, maybe 20 minutes away from Savannah.
We walk hours in the morning with binoculars, watch the big ships come in, then go into Savannah for lunch down on River Street and get to see the tugs pull the ships into harbor. A fine way to spend a morning.

We’re still good. There’s a blessing to living up on a hill. We can still get out, our one way out is now flooded, but farther down than where we get on it at.
Now everyone on that road that lives on the lakeside are flooded, including some who didn’t get flooded the last two floods we had.
The worst hasn’t got here yet though, especially for those near the Arkansas river, it isn’t supposed to crest until midnight, if they don’t change that again. It was supposed to crest yesterday at 42 ft, yet it was around 43 ft yesterday and still rising. Now they’re saying 45 ft., but the dams are still just containing the flood pools, not getting them down to safe levels.
They’re calling for more rain this weekend, I’m praying it stays away, but now we’re being warned about all the water from Kansas headed our way.
LikeLiked by 4 people
So sorry Michelle. Water is so unrelenting. I hope the rains go away or at least miss the hardest hit areas. Not moving in the right direction is always nerve racking.
I’m happy you’re on a hill. Stay safe, prayers will continue. I know clean up will be quite a chore at least you have summer coming and hopefully the sun will do its magic.

Corps just released their new prediction of flood areas, a lot of new areas that weren’t on their earlier prediction map.
Out here the lake looks about the same since the last we checked, but we went and looked at the dam from a distance and the flood pool looks about even with the top of the dam.

We will continue to pray here.
Again I happy you are on a hill.
Whenever it floods here there are apartment right on the river and they always get water, in all honesty I don’t know how the complex has not been condemned and shut down it seems like there must be mold that is unbeatable at this point.
This bear is on the river in Waukesha, it’s probably 6 feet tall;
Here it is during one of our floods;
There are apartments just down the block from here.

I was watching the local news a little while ago and they had a bunch of aerial shots and videos. It’s so strange seeing only the roofs of buildings and knowing just a week ago you were driving in that exact spot.
I’m not the type to drive around and try to see the flooding, so I’m seeing very little of it. Just those who live out this way by the lake who have water in their homes. I only do that because I don’t have a lot of confidence in anyone in charge, so I monitor for myself how close the water is getting to the road.
I have been staying away from the dam, but got talked into going to see it. They’ve put a gate up even farther back than has always been there. I kind of laughed about it because I wouldn’t even get to where the new gate is, much less the old gate.
It does make you wonder what they’re not saying though as this access is at the flood pool side, not below the dam.

I can’t believe this. How hard is it to secure these things? First I hear earlier they just about let the USS Batfish get away earlier, national guard had to come in and secure it. Now 4 more barges on the loose.
JUST IN: There are four more barges in the Arkansas River in Muskogee County that the Governor’s Office is actively monitoring right now which are stalled. Same owner of the barges that hit Webbers Falls Lock and Dam 16 yesterday.
STATEMENT FROM Governor Kevin Stitt SPOKESPERSON: “The owners are actively working to slow down the movement of these four barges and secure their assets. The state will continue to monitor the barges and remain engaged until the situation is resolved”
I’m told the owner has been working closely throughout the day with various levels of government. They say these ports are engineered to face these types of incidences, but the state is not going to take any risks with this.
Their first goal is securing the barges, and the Governors Office is “actively putting together several other options to ensure the security and safety of the area.”
They do not know the exact location of the barges right now (9:00pm Friday). They’re reconvening in the morning unless there’s been a change in the current measures securing the barges.

“actively putting together several other options to ensure the security and safety of the area.”
A day late and a dollar short and the people of OK will pay for the governments incompetence.
In Milwaukee they spent millions and millions of dollars to alleviate a flooding and sewage problem. The solution made it worse. I’m sure that there will be a property tax hike or some other money grab to fix the fix.
It is really sad that all bureaucrats focus on lining their pockets and growing their power rather than serving their constituents.
Prayers continue Michelle.

We’re being begged to report any damages to our land, homes, businesses, farm buildings, animals, etc.
They’re wanting that FEMA money. As soon as the flooding started Stitt was already harping on FEMA, now he has put all counties under a state of emergency, which is bs. Not all counties have flooding or tornado damage.
It sucks what is happening to us and I’m sorry for all the losses everyone is experiencing and will experience, but the rest of the country should not have to pay for it.

FEMA set up here with huge signs on the roads.
We had no flood damage. ZERO.
We were encouraged to go and apply for aid anyhow, something about no evidence was needed for the first 1000 or 2000 dollar claim. I snapped on the rat trying to get me to abuse the system.

I know that’s why they’re wanting people to fill out their survey, the more damage they can show, the more money the state can get. It’s the same reason our Governor declared all counties as a state of emergency. Here is what it says on the top of the survey they want us to fill out:

I laughed at that as well.
They did find them I read this morning and supposedly have secured them again.
I have to give a shout out to our National Guards they seem to be doing most of the heavy work. They saved USS Batfish and they found the barges, they have built makeshift levies around, have brought in portable substations to get electric to people without it. In addition they’ve been rescuing people, delivering water, going to remote areas and checking on people.
They seem to be the only people in charge not running around like chickens with their heads cut off.
I know all those in the state who love our Governor disagree with me, but I’m kind of tired of seeing him with his photo shoots with National Guard and Corps leaders taking all of his helicopter rides to look at the damage. Damn politicians are like a bunch of rubber neckers or flies around here. Just stay out of the way and quit taking away resources to show up for all of your photo ops.

Please instead of prayers pull your head out of the sand and help stop global warming we must stop emitting green house gasses or we will all die and the human race shall perish from the face of the earth. Please please heed our warnings do not let arrogance and greed doom us

No, we military women do not go into battle and fight like the men. We were thrilled to be given the privilege to support those who did. And doggone it, some dummy had to be the best coder to stay behind and listen. If not me, then who?
Have a Great Memorial Day Weekend. Enjoy your families, and please know that there are some military who truly appreciate those who volunteered to give their all. We may not have your experiences, but we understand, perhaps better than most.
To those who served – Thank You.

I adore Arts and Crafts style homes. Pasadena and Altadena in Los Angeles County, CA are full of early 1900s Craftsman houses…here’s the Blue Granite landmark home in Altadena, CA…

We had to go up to another town about 35 miles north to pick up a new zero-turn mower and a trailer. We were on a schedule so we did the paperwork while the dealer hooked the mower and trailer to our truck. I spent decades in the military checking and double checking every trailered load I carried and only had one disconnect…you can see where this is going, cant you…so today I did a cursory eye-over, saw the chains were connected and pulled out.
It was an uneventful trip until about a mile from the house when, thankfully on the flats between two small hills, I feel this horrible THUMP and know immediately the trailer disconnected. As I slowed down the trailer banged into the truck about 4 times before the tongue came to rest under it. I had to dismount, pick up the loaded tongue and reconnect it – they’d forgotten to lock the trailer to the ball and they didn’t supply a locking pin, something that would have prevented the whole thing and not have left hubris tooth marks in my butt.
Check, double check, triple check and never trust ‘experts’ to do what they’re supposed to do.

This is one of the most endearing things I have seen in a long while. Note the little guy doesn’t even speed it up when the gentleman tries to scotch him along!

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
