Today is the 149th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin’s birthday, more popularly known today as “Earth Day”. The first Earth Day took place on the 100th anniversary of VL’s birthday, although some of the founders deny that they were aware of it at the time.

The story goes that one of the founders of Earth Day, Ira Einhorn (although it has been denied that he was) murdered and composted his girlfriend. On Mar. 28, 1979, a homicide detective discovered the body of Helen “Holly” Maddux rotting in a trunk in Einhorn’s home 18 months after she was reported missing. Einhorn, said it was a set-up by some who opposed his antiwar activism. He fled the country just days before his trial was set to begin in 1981, but was tried in absentia and found guilty of murder in 1993.  After being on the run in Europe for over 15 years, he was extradited to the U.S. and was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder in 2002 and sentenced to life in prison.

Ira Einhorn at the Earth Day rally on Belmont Plateau in Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970.

Whatever the truth may be, Einhorn was definitely present at the first Earth Day rally in Philadelphia, although I can  understand why the organizers attempted to put as much distance between themselves and Einhorn as they possibly could.

I suggest that you celebrate the day in whatever manner you see fit.

“O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”

        • I’m so glad you got to enjoy Easter with family! It sounds like a fun visit minus the political discourse. 😉
We had a nice weekend. It was pretty quiet here, because my older DD and the littles all have croup, so they stayed home. My step-son and his family recently moved to Arizona, but we got some texts and pics from them about their celebrations. It would have been nice to see them, but this coming Saturday we are babysitting so that DD and her husband can have a date. I’m planning to do an Easter egg hunt with my grandson, who’s 3, and baby B at 6 months old, will just be happy to be carried around to watch the fun.

            Oh no! 🙏🏼

We had people working, my niece always goes to the in-laws for Easter so we had no little kids, my one sister was “too tired” but it was still nice.

A few years ago my mom and sister told me that we don’t celebrate Easter as a family nor did we ever. It is a good thing that I have learned with age that I’m not a crazy person 🙂 since we did always celebrate Easter dinner, anyhow the fact that we really didn’t celebrate Easter dinner for the last few years made this one seem not so odd with so few of there.

            • It’s been a minor thing for us in recent years, partly because everyone was doing their own fun things. We had huge celebrations at my grandparent’s house, when I was little. It had to be big with thirteen of us grandkids. Lots of food and fun desserts and a big Easter egg hunt. I hope to be able to do that for my grandkids at some point. Fond memories. 🙂

We had seven grandkids here yesterday, missing only one who was at his dad’s house. I don’t have a picture of all eight of them and I want one so badly. As soon as school ends the oldest one will have to go spend the whole summer in Ohio at his dad’s house, not getting back down here to my son and his mom until the last week before school, so I’m losing my chance until fall soon.

Last time they were all together the notorious Conner had an epic meltdown and refused to be in the pictures. Which is likely to happen again, so I have a rope ready for him. I refuse to be thwarted forever. They are growing so fast.

                • They do grow so fast. I was on FaceTime with the 3 year old and 6 month old earlier this evening, because the 3 year old told my DD, “I’m going over to Mimi and Pops house and having pancakes with strawberries and blueberries, right now, you got that?” He’s a hoot! She cracked up laughing and suggested they do a FaceTime call instead, since they are all still sick. He was okay with that. (Of course I’m going to make sure he gets his favorite pancakes on Saturday.) Anyway… looking at baby B, I was noticing that her hair is starting to thicken and fill in a lot on top and it practically happened overnight. She’s already wearing 9 to 12 months clothes. Wish they could stay little a whole lot longer.

We had a spate, some years back, of ‘public art’ purchased by various government and private agencies meant to grace our public spaces.

One of the pieces of art bought was a series of expensive painted sheet metal depictions of insects and animals put up on tall posts. We were at the studio of another artist involved in providing sculpted art to the project, art that required many hours of heavy and dirty work. We mentioned this insect/animal project to him, in passing, but he took it seriously. His face screwed up when we mentioned the ‘art’ and he walked over to a workbench, picked up a piece of sheet metal and some tin snips. About 5 minutes of snipping and bending and he came up with a miniature, almost exact, copy of one of the more complex pieces. If it would have been full size all he’d have needed to do was pop rivet the piece into position, spritz some paint and viola, public art.

Since then ‘public art’ has sort of been an inside joke between us. No trees hurt in the creation of this post.

Got an email from American Express on Saturday that read:

As part of our regular account security monitoring, we’ve determined that your Card number may have been intercepted by an external party. To protect you against fraud, we’ve issued a replacement Card for your account ending in XXXXX. You will receive this replacement Card within the next several days.

This is the third time in the past two years; the last time was in December. I do use this particular card for on-line transactions, other than Amazon. Just got the replacement via Fedex.

I am very happy about American Express fraud protection, but this is a pain in the butt. It doesn’t affect automatic payments that I have set up, but it does affect others that have to be changed.

So i was kind of laughing about this whole Measles thing, and I know I shouldn’t, but as a friend posted on Facebook the other day, people whine about why they’re taught science and biology in school, and then they grow up and think that vaccines cause autism and the earth is flat.

But I was grocery shopping this weekend, and wanted a Nestle product, so I consulted my list of products not to buy because the companies that make them used aborted fetal cells as part of the manufacturing process, usually to test flavorings. I wish I were joking but this apparently is a thing and I store the following list on my phone, and I don’t buy Nestle’s Coffeemate creamers anymore:

    Click to access fetalproductsall.pdf

What I happened to notice this time as I was inspecting the list were all the vaccines that involve fetal cells in production, and then the note at the bottom about moral alternatives to a lot of these vaccines. But you know what’s not listed as a vaccine with an alternative that doesn’t involve slaughtered children?

The MMRII, which includes vaccination for measles.

I don’t say this to say that somehow this epidemic can be traced back to lots of pro-lifers suddenly taking a stand. You never know, but I sincerely doubt that to be the case. More likely, the measles cases are the result of the usual anti-vaxxer crowd getting all their information from mommy blogs and Facebook rather then medical professionals.

But still, it makes me wonder. And it chills me to think that this is far science has fallen, that it builds the health and well being of children on the bodies of ones murdered in the womb.

It is anti-vaxxers – ones who travel and bring the disease back with them. Some countries (France, for one) has a vaccination rate that has dropped a lot in recent years. They had a huge measles outbreak a couple of years ago.

Fetal cells are used in the production of some vaccines. They are cells from two legal therapeutic abortions done in the 1960’s. I wrote about this in at least one of my posts about vaccines.

BTW, forgot to ask last night what “therapeutic ” abortion is. Every pro-abortion advocate argues that every abortion is therapeutic. That adjective is too vague.

        • stella says:

It wasn’t in the 1960’s when abortion was mostly illegal. Here is the info about the two abortions:

There are two specific human cell lines that are used in vaccine production. The first one is known as the Wistar Institute-38 or “WI-38”. The second is the Medical Research Council -5 or “MRC-5”.

The WI-38 cell line was developed in July 1962 from “lung tissue taken from a therapeutically aborted [female] fetus of about 3 months gestational age.” The MRC-5 cell line was developed September 1966 from “lung tissue taken from a 14 week [male] fetus aborted for psychiatric reason from a 27 year old physically healthy woman.”

From what I can gather, a therapeutic abortion was done prior to legalization of abortion in this country in cases where continuing the pregnancy would harm the mother (one example is pre-eclampsia, or eclampsia which at that time could only be cured by delivery of the child.) Abortions were also done sometimes if the child wasn’t considered to be viable. I don’t know how they knew that, but I am not a doctor.
