    And Nyet reminded me that L’m sitting here waiting for the well repair guy. Water went out about 7ish last night leaving us high and dry. There’s lotsa bottled water but it’s the general inconvenience.

    You’d think it’s a rural inconvenience but the city of New Orleans actually has more water interruptions than we do. Then again their distribution infrastructure is crumbling, ancient and they lose about half of the water they make daily due to leaks so we feel comfortable.

      I love living where we do, but the well is a mixed bag. We have the best tasting water ever, but the well pump going out is horrible. Also, I found out it may cause us a lot of trouble selling the house because technically we could be on city water which mortgage companies push for. In actuality we could never afford the huuuuuuugggggeee cost of trying to run pipe up this hunk of rock we sit 1/4 mile up, through the dense woods. And did I mention rock?

        Just got my water back on – seems a ^&$# carpenter bee got into the relay box and shorted out my relay. 1/2 and hour and $95 later we’re back on water.

        We’re so far out the county says it will be the year 2525 before they get out here…but then we’re both drawing from the same aquifer so technically they’re here…or I’m there…or something.

          Our well pump guy says he is the one around here who tests the wells for mortgage companies. He says the government has so many restrictions in place for saying a well “passed” that not one of them ever does, including his own.

          As we get closer to putting the house on the market, it concerns me. Real estate agent says it just means that no one can finance the house through FHA or VA. We’ll see.

              Looks like there might be one in Dawsonville, about three hours away, but it isn’t clear to me whether that bank is actually a Federal Land Bank. It’s just the only thing that comes up on a google search.

                Land Banks are banking co-ops for rural folk, our land’s financed thru them. They are non-profit, all ‘profits’ after overhead are redistributed to those with loans, we just plow our returns back into the mortgage.

                They were created to lend on rural homes and raw land, something that most city-based banks won’t, they’re looser in their practices as they are taaa-daaa non-profit. Call and ask them if they’ll lend under your circumstances.

                Their finance crated are competitive, they’re based on the Libor, and are about what you’d pay to a city bank – ours is 6.03% but we get $$$ back – equals about one month’s payment.

    It’s that time of the year again the Tennessee Williams Fest in NOLA. Thing I like most about it is I don’t have to work it anymore, drunken festival goers from the various fests we have do bring in revenue but, when you deal with them in the hundreds and on the street, are a major pain.

    I just heard on FOX NEWS that a whistle blower has come forward and said that there have been many irregularities with security clearances in the WH. The first thing that came to my mind was that the clearances were being blocked for many of the people because of anti-Trumpers in those agencies that do them and were being overridden by the President. I remember the flack about Jerad. I guess that didn’t work, so now they are moving on to another approach.

      If their security clearances are being done in the regular channels the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is doing them. You might have forgotten but after Clinton destroyed the Federal agency whose primary duty was performing background checks , investigations and issuing security clearances for the Federal government the process was sold to a politically connected civilian concern who really screwed that pooch. The it was given to OPM who promptly lost thirty plus years of security clearances to an unidentified hacker, including those of currently working military and Federal LEA.

      Trump can do what both Clinton and the POtuS did and just allow questionable people to have access to WH events and information without security clearances. After all if one ex-president can operate a kleptarchy and another a Leftist ‘Coup of the Proletariat’ from the WH with sketchy uncleared personnel why can’t a real American try to save us without cleared personnel? On top of that you have to figure that an organization dedicated to hiring people based on quotas rather than competence would have access to all of the Trump appointees and their families personal information. If the incompetent OPM SOBs (yeah, OPM, it’s me here) can compromise not only the personal identification, information and their families’ data imagine what they could do with all of that stored information.

        And my having worked (I use the expression loosely) directly with OPM I can’t help but wonder with whom the personal and private information on the security clearance forms submitted by WH personnel is being ‘shared’ with.

        As I’ve said, I’ve ‘worked’ directly with OPM and still am not sure for whom they work and where their loyalties lie. For Federal employees I worked with deploying to combat zones the folks at OPM seemed to have more in common with the Taliban than us. Lotta Democrats in OPM, but then the Taliban reference covers that.

          Clinton did that, we all felt, when the department – the Defense Investigative Service – started getting pushy about the WH balking strongly about submitting security clearance packages for Bill’s WH cronies who’d have access to classified information. There were
          supposed to be folks working there right up to the end who weren’t cleared.

          We don’t know to this day who had access to what, how much was accessed illegally by uncleared personnel and where that info went.

            Oh yeah, then there’s that little escapade where the Clinton misadministration allowed US companies to go to Chine to fix their largest missiles. Seems China was trying to kick start its space program and their big rockets were unreliable, they tended to go ‘boom’ instead of ‘zoom’. US companies helped make their missiles reliable, so much so that shortly thereafter the same changes showed up in their nuke-launching ICBMs that were the military versions of their space rockets.

            Then there was the sale to China of the technology that allows ‘peaceful space rockets’ to launch multiple satellites off of one missile, great for China’s plans to launch its own series of ‘peaceful’ GPS satellites. Super idea! Except that the multiple-launch technology is the same tech you use to MIRV nuke warheads and China launched that GPS system so that it could guide their missiles precisely on foreign targets without having to rely on US or Russian GPS.

            I’m sure that one day there’ll be statues of the Clintons in some Chinese park.
