    Well friends, I have reached the point of illumination in my journey to unload stuff. Everyday I look around at the furnishings and things we own, large and small. Mentally at least, I am culling almost everything.

    Unexpectedly though, I have found where my big problem lies and it is crazy. I am having trouble culling the stuff in the junk drawers. Oh no, this household has not just one junk drawer, but a half dozen.

    Except for the offering envelopes in the corner of the big junk drawer in the buffet (because why would I keep linens and silverware and such in the finest, biggest, bestest drawer in the house?) and the tape, kid’s birthday candles, and instruction information for an instant pot in the kitchen drawers.

    I never need anything in those drawers, can’t even remember what it is until I start cleaning it out. Then it all seems so vital that I can’t believe some secret government agency hasn’t raided the house for my stash of ink pens, bobby pins, safety pins, leaking bottles of kid’s cough syrup, and buttons. Felt round thingies that I never bother with anyhow. Extra underwear for grandkids. A broken rosary. Old cards.

    Apparently, my treasures are junk drawer gold. I think I’ll just take the coward’s way out, leave one day and tell my husband to dump it all. He’s good like that, unless of course it involves his collection of tools and fasteners.

    How dumb is it that you have reached the point where you mentally plot how to unload your precious antique secretary that you’ve treasured since you were a child on one of your kids but you can’t throw away sewing kits and safety pins?

    This is the fate of people who never did their time in therapy or some kind of relating group where you yell and cry and false smile. I just know it.

      Gee. It sounds like you didn’t move enough. When my mother moved, which was pretty often, she always used the time to clean out drawers, etc.

      You and I could be twins. I always had many misc. drawers. When I moved after the death of my parents and my divorce, my best friend, who was OCD, was appalled that all of the boxes were marked MISC.

          Although I should have cleaned out some when we had the fire. Unfortunately, I packed most of it in totes and kept it. Would have been a great time to let go, but I wasn’t ready.

            That was a lot of my problem when I moved after the divorce. My mother died, the next year, my father died and then my husband must have lost his mind and 6 months later I filed for divorce. I still hadn’t figured out what to do with a lot of my parent’s family things. So, I packed them and moved them. I am finally starting to let go. I have been surprised at how I don’t miss some of the things that seemed so special after they are gone.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

    Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
