    Hey, Stellars…I’m just going to post this and the next compilation and then will take Wednesday and maybe Thursday off away from the computer so my left eye can rest. At the moment it is blood red from simply overdoing it…again!

    Well, the California governor has used his executive overreach to unilaterally set a blanket moratorium on the state’s death penalty. He claims the death penalty is immoral and ineffective so he’s putting over 730 convicted murderers into state sponsored hotel guests.

    I can see part of his objections, see but not support. Most important is we not execute an innocent person but in cases where the individual’s guilt has been established beyond any smidgen of reasonable doubt or the individual has confessed – execute. Come on folks, there are some situations where the crime is so unfathomable to civilized people that the punishment must fit the crime.

    In NOLA there’s yet ANOTHER case of a new boyfriend killing the little children of his girlfriend fathered by another man. It’s a common practice in the animal world but generally frowned upon by civilized people. He beat three children to death with a hammer AND their mother – he was upset. Just yesterday the grandmother had to make the decision to pull the plug on her grandchild as she was braindead, she lost three grandchildren (again, one she had to pull the plug on) and her daughter to a POS who got upset with momma and the other guy’s kids and beat them to death with a hammer. Imagine how the kids waiting to be beaten and watching their siblings and momma being killed felt. He confessed freely and is in jail. Now, does he deserve a cell and three meals a day for the perhaps 50 or more years of life he has left?

    For a representative listing. Take a look at what the working people of the state thought deserved the death penalty and see if you agree or have any thoughts that they should be put in prison for life and maybe even ‘rehabilitated’ and put on parole.

    Norway’s being bandied about as a progressive example of enlightened incarceration – the maximum sentence for ANY crime there is 21 years. Now the 21 years can be extended in 5 year blocks indefinitely if the authorities don’t think the skel has been rehabilitated but think about a sandal-wearing bleeding heart parole board allowing a conning con whose murdered three children and their mother to express remorse and be out on parole? NIJ figures show that over 70% of violent offenders released from US prisons are rearrested within 5 years and that figure’s been steady for a long time. Now put those figures with even the remote possibility that these seasoned murderers might be released to join the ever growing number of new and upcoming killers and see if that effects your ideas on the death penalty.

      There was a case in a county near me of a man who committed a terrible crime. He was angry about whatever, I can’t remember, and so he heated up his oven to 500 degrees, then pulled the rack out and laid it on the floor and laid a baby on it. My very first reaction was that man needs to die. Period. Having said that, I haven’t reconciled it in my mind and heart yet. I’m not sure if that is right in God’s eyes. I have read many opinions on the death penalty, but for me, IDK. I have no problem with life with no parole though I do understand your concerns there.

        I was at a house where a botched home invasion occurred – the owner family was home. The skel murdered momma, poppa and the kids. When he was caught and asked why he said that he coldly didn’t want any witnesses around who could ID him.

        A bad drug deal led to the murder of a woman, her boyfriend and her child. The boyfriend’s friends found out who did it and they went to the shooter’s home and shot him in the head and as good measure murdered his girlfriend, his small children and his momma. He wasn’t killed but was a veggie – the shooters said he had to die and went seatrching the local hospitals to find him, kill him and anyone treating him. My wife was assigned to be one of his therapists and the local PD couldn’t be bothered to put a cop on him 24/7. Death penalty?

            Some people can go thru cases like this, as with some defense attorneys I know, even seeing the horrible pix of the victims and still beg for mercy for the skel. I just ain’t that person and I believe someone that does something like that should be eliminated.

            Now an alternative is child killers. I’d like to see them just dealt with but I’m sorta OK with them going to prison for life without parole as getting sent there as a child killer he’ll pray for death every day as s/he will be damn near at the bottom of the prison totem pole.

    Yee haw, race fans, PETE KAISER HAS WON THE IDITAROD!! Whoop! Whoop! I am so happy, for him, for his family, for Bethel. The entire town is celebrating, and half the town is in Nome for the event. Official write up here:

    though I will have to note one small correction: Pete and his wife have a son and a daughter, not 2 daughters. I was at their wedding at the Catholic church in Bethel a few years ago. Pete’s wife Bethany is from Bethel’s most prominent Yup’ik family, and Pete is half Yup’ik. And he is just a really nice guy.

    I’ve tried to see the exact amount on that giant check he won, but can’t make it out. The winning purse varies somewhat from year to year, but is generally around $60,000. And then there is the brand new Dodge pick up truck with custom paint job that comes with it. Cool.

    Joar finished 2nd, about 12 minutes after Pete; and Jessie finished 3rd, just 20 minutes ago. Aliy still holds 4th position and is right now about halfway from White Mountain to Nome. The team behind her is 11 miles back, which at their current speeds is about a 2 hour gap so it is highly unlikely that team can reel her in. A fourth place finish will earn her about $25-30,000.

    Our rookie, Jessica Klejka, continues to hold 31st position and is currently resting at Shaktoolik (mile 777).

      ALIY ZIRKLE HAS CROSSED THE FINISH LINE! She takes 4th place with 11 dogs in harness, only 3 dropped the entire 1,000 miles. That demonstrates excellent dog care skills and management. Yaaaaay Aliy!!

      Jessica is back at mile 805, between Shaktoolik and Koyuk, right where Nic Petit’s team quit on him. I’ll be watching to see she gets off the sea ice and into Koyuk, probably between 10 and midnight. Go Jessica! Go dogs!

    And here’s a story (possibly linked to goat yoga?). Fresno County has expeienced a huge increase in goat thefts, over 60 recently. Estimated loss of $27,000. One farm had 11 stolen. Valerie, watch your barn!
