    I love giraffes!

I just finished watching the Netflix documentary segment on Aliy and it was outstanding! Thanks so much, whoever mentioned it first (lovely?). The series is called Losers and Aliy’s was, I believe, segment #4. It really gives you some feel for mushing.

Y’all might…or not…remember that last year in July I sent a request thru my Fed Rep and Senator to get Homeland Security to cough up the number of documented incursions by armed Mexican military and police personnel into US territory. This would include incursions where these personnel fired on US personnel. I figured it wouldn’t be any good to ask for data on shots fired from Mexican territory by these personnel at US personnel inside of US territory wouldn’t do any good as he official excuse is usually these shots are of ‘undetermined origin’, fired by cartei or regular banditos dressed as police/military, ricochets, et cetera.

My first response was from my Rep’s office – just before Thanksgiving – telling me that the request was buried somewhere in the Things To Do box at the Congressional Research Office. I should be patient. Well today, some 9 months laters, my Senator’s office sends me a letter asking that I provide a signed Privacy Act form before they can act on my request. My Senator’s a Republican.

Now there was a classified report by DHS well over 10 years ago giving a figure well over 200 of these incursions and I know there have been more since. You’d think that the figures would be readily available but it seems there is some pushback when you try to retrieve them.

In the meantime here’s a couple from after the report, well after, and they ain’t the only ones, I just included them to show you what I’m talking about. But then you’ve probably seen them plastered all over the national news and your newspapers…

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
    By Robert Frost

Whose woods these are I think I know.
    His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

OMG Congresswoman Debbie Dingell annoys the he!! out of me. I decided this this morning when I heard her on FOX. I muted her and then happened to look back. She annoys me even when I can’t hear her. What she said this morning. Not an exact copy of her words, but close enough. She was a little hard to follow. No wonder I didn’t understand what she was saying. She made sure of what she didn’t say……….. “Shut up anti-semites.”

The question to her was, “What are your thoughts about what you have seen and heard so far from your colleague Ilan Omar?
“I’m talking to all of my colleagues. This is a very complicated issue. There is nothing complicated about being very clear that we must stand up against anti-semitism. That we must stand up against that and stand up for Israel. But this country is being divided by fear and hatred and it is not just the Jewish community that is feeling attacked. I have this unique community where I have a strong Jewish population in Ann Arbor and the largest population of muslims in the country live in my home town. And, they are feeling attacked every day too. We are dividing this country with fear and hatred. And, We all have to take a deep breath and listen to our language and understand how things are said are not maybe meant as they are interpreted. We gotta protect free speech in this country too, but understand we are hurting people at times with our language. But, we’ve got to protect everybodys’ freedom of religion, period.

    Yeah, alrighty then. 🙄

“But, we’ve got to protect everybodys’ freedom of religion, period.” A fine and worthy sentiment.

However, when your “religion” says it’s also fine to kill infidels if they either don’t join in with you or don’t agree to pay the “best people” a tax which is supposed to protect infidels, but doesn’t at all. And if your religion says dogs are unclean, we’re supposed to allow them to get rid of them? How about raping captured women and making them your sex slaves? Their religion says that’s OK, too.

All these actions are against our laws; but we should allow them to break our laws just because their religion teaches these things?

Disgusting apologists are right at home in the socialist/communist democrat party.

Good morning all! Iditarod is doing what Iditarod does: relentlessly progressing 24/7. I almost feel guilty for getting 8 hours of sleep and missing the overnight action. Especially knowing the mushers are 1-2 hours at a time and are becoming seriously sleep deprived. And that will continue until they take the mandatory 24 hour rest somewhere near the middle of the race. Mushers have different strategies about where to take the long break; some do it early and some wait as long as possible. It is the musher’s decision. Aliy usually takes her “24” at Takotna or Ophir.

The front end of the race has reached Nikolai at mile 263 and many teams are resting there. Aliy continues to be in 5th position. On all the Insider videos I have seen, her team looks great and she has yet to drop a dog from the team. Her blog is posting some great photos and videos, including one (just for lovely!) shot by Aliy wearing a GoPro camera through the Dalzell Gorge in the 2016 race. Here is the link from last night:

    http://spkennel.com/2019/03/id-monday-evening-update-towards-nikolai/

And our rookie, Jessica, is hanging in there. She is currently in 36th place, pretty average for a rookie. One of the blog writers for the race is focusing on the 10 rookies, and here is her background paragraph on Jessica:

At the age of 12, Jessica Klejka decided she’d run Iditarod and here she is! Jessica grew up in Bethel and ran the family dog team. At first her younger siblings were her passengers but eventually, all of them took to the runners. Jessica is the 2008 Jr. Iditarod Champion. Hers was the closest finish in Jr. Iditarod history. By 2 seconds she claimed victory over Cain Carter. Jessica earned her veterinary medicine degree from Washington State University and now practices in Big Lake, AK. Klejka is running in 36th place and resting in Rainy Pass.

    Go dogs! Go Aliy!

That was awesome. It’s stuff that is so foreign to me, I never thought about the sound the musher hears. Movement. That is the sound of movement, that was my first thought.

Funny to see the dogs from the mushers perspective. All the dogs seem to be looking straight ahead except the one in front of the white dog closest to the sled (so not the last dog in line but second to last) he/she seems to keep looking off to the right and almost pulling that way a bit.

      Mesmerizing.

Running blind in some of that terrain.

Just from that little bit I can see what a spiritual journey that it is.

It also brings home that there is not a moments rest while you’re on the sled!

      Awesome, thanks Tundra!

Someone here (I forgot who, but I plead old age) suggested that Green Book was a good movie. My friend and I couldn’t find anything else to see and I reluctantly went along. OMG What a good movie! The acting was great, the story was great, and they didn’t Hollywood it up. It seemed like it would be a depressing story. But, when it was over and people started leaving the theater, it was almost like we had bonded. People were all smiling, giving thumbs up, and chatting about the movie like we were all old friends. It was amazing. It was based on a true story. Don’t miss it.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
