    The Los Angeles Veterans Affairs (VA) facility that illegally rents its sprawling grounds to institutions that don’t serve veterans just evicted several groups dedicated to veterans, including a nonprofit that for decades has comforted dying vets and another that helps those who are disabled. While the VA gave the volunteer organizations the boot without offering an explanation, it continues housing a parking lot for nearby upscale shops, a university baseball stadium, a dog park for the professional dog walkers of affluent residents, and athletic fields for a fancy prep school.

          Wellllllll…VA is a huge cash cow for politically connected contractors. All of those little services a VA center needs to operate from trash to food to linen, to IT, hundreds of little things, are money makers. Those SES folks at the VA bureaucratic food chain top decide who gets those service contracts and those contractors in turn make political contributions. There are questions as to what some of those upper SES and GS folks might get but there are generally no tracks.

          I watched…interesting…contracting things while I was with both state (that was a short one) and again with the Feds. The only thing that made the Fed contracting issue a ‘legal’ action was that there’s a loophole built into the law that’s meant to weaken it. It’s how bidnezz is done.

      As I’ve said before, I believe the Rats though, when the Party put them on its own plantation, that the black vote would be the salvation of the Rat Party. Problem is between legal abortion, increased death rate and decreased birth rate the predicted size of the black population won’t be that much larger by mid-century than it is now.

      The Rats are pushing black members to the margins as they fight to flood the US with Latino immigrants, legal or otherwise. The Latinos will come in huge numbers, they have a pretty active birth rate, and they’ll take the same ‘welfare for votes’ program that’s been a Rat staple. We’ll have huge Rat and Latino ghettos in the cities where the Rats can farm their voter crop…right up until the Latinos joining the black factions and they use each others’ votes to flip the Party. To live in interesting times…

    On a lark I bought a major manufacturer’s frozen key lime pie. OK, despite my underlying condition I LOVE key lime pie.

    I’m not going to say both Czarina and I didn’t like it but when I put the majority remainder out for the coons and/or possums last night…what I put out is still there.

      Don’t believe them. They built a bridge in NO in the mid-80’s, and we still had tolls on it in the late 2000’s. After they paid for the bridge they used the money for “upkeep” , “bridge police” and down some governmental hole into some unknown coffers. Of course they’d have paid it off sooner if some of the toll collectors had put the money in the toll boxes instead of their pockets…

        I posted almost the same thing, don’t know where it went. NOLA’s CCC bridges were money maskers and were used after they paid themselves off to build the state coffers. The state tried to get the money generated after the new bridge was paid off sent to the general fund, sorta like how all that money from gambling was supposed to be used solely for education but ended up in that general fund.

        Interesting thing was that about 18 months after the bridge was built someone spilled the beans and the state treasurer sent a team down to investigate. Seems that there was no actual and formal accounting of the cash taken in from the tolls. Auditors found cash in drawers, cash in cabinets, cash in tubs under desks and cash stacked on desks. No one knows how much employees collecting or ‘accounting’ for it took before the inspectors arrived.

        As Baton Rouge is the black hole of state politics one expects the reason the bridge won’t pay for itself will be the diversion of receipts.

    Hi all. Hope youre doing well. We have been doing the rounds of being sick. Kiddo got a pretty bad gi virus, then daddy, then I ended up with a regular cold. And then, it started all over again and im sick. Kiddo had an awards day at school yesterday. His award was for being a brainiac about math. Still doing better with fewer bad days.
    He saw OT through our insurance, but no report yet. The public district OT evaluated him and we have a meeting at the end of the month.
    We are having stresses with certain things that are a bit overwhelming but Im just plugging away.
    A vacation seems like a dream.
    At least Lucille has lots of great photos! Still love the art posts. Kiddo is still doing da vinci at school but is going to an after school art class a couple times a month. Its something fun. Have a great weekend!

      I wrote a bit about him, Ocasio and the Justice Democrats on Sunday’s daily thread. An astonishingly dangerous group of “True Believers” . They will not acquiesce to the powers that be in the democrat party, they are there to cause a civil war.

    This is an old article, but it makes a lot of sense. Junk food is not cheap and it doesn’t go far, but it’s easy and convenient when you’re too lazy to cook. It is the dumbest thing ever that we allow food stamps to pay for it.

      Ever see the ME women with shopping carts full of soda, they then pay for it with food stamps, and then they sell out in their family convince store. The system is not charitable it is broken and supports vile opportunistic behavior.

        I don’t ever see them sell them. I have been approached more than once walking into a grocery store and asked if I’d give them $25 or $50 for $50 or $100 worth of groceries.

        Then of course almost anytime I get behind one in the checkout line paying for groceries with their SNAP card the cart is full of soda, cookies, chips, donuts, frozen pizzas, deli meat, etc.
        My daughter one night ran into the store and got behind a person we know that was buying 3 packages of oreos and chips and dip then paid with a SNAP card. She asked him how he gets food stamps when he has a good job. He said because they have 5 kids. She told him well you do know for the price you paid for that junk, you could have bought actual food for a meal to feed your kids.
        He asked her what it mattered to her how he fed his kids and she told him she didn’t care how he fed his kids unless he was using our money to feed them junk, food stamps should only be for real food.
        He told her he paid taxes as well, so she needed to mind her own business. That he never realized she was a busy body, she told him she could care less what he does except when it comes to food stamps and it pisses her off that they’re even allowed to buy junk food with food stamps.

            The big guys like WalMart and other chains along with Nabisco and others don’t want it changed and they have paid lobbyists with a lot more access than we do.
            So I doubt we will ever see them even put restrictions on what they can buy, much less doing what I think should be done and it be commodities.

                I saw a study awhile back that said something like 60% of WalMart grocery sales was SNAP. I can’t remember the millions of dollars now that is was a year that WalMart receives from the government through SNAP. It was a lot of money for them to lose though, the same with all the junk food companies they would lose a lot of money if restrictions were placed on food stamps.
                I know the manager at our little grocery store told me one day when the SNAP/EBT system was down that they were only doing about 20% of the normal sales that day. I saw the sign on the door as I walked in that the system was down and then heard the wrath of those who blamed the store. It was good for me though, no waiting in line.

    We watched two Dinesh D’Souza movies recently: “Death of a Nation” & “Democratic Hillary’s America.” Both outline how the Democratic party holds the same tenets as facism, Nazism, socialism, communism, and the word “progressive” has been used off & on as a code word for each of these when Hitler, Stalin, Woodrow Wilson, Margaret Sanger, FDR, LBJ, Mussolini, etc. praised each other. Progressive socialism sounds so modern, yet has been around for quite a while, destroying lives while enriching its leaders (Including Hillary & Bill).
