Looks like that Houston ‘drug raid’ where 4 officers were shot may not be what it looks like.

Married couples, who own their own home, have no criminal record, one of whom is an honorable discharged disabled veteran, and who are best friends with their neighbors, do not fit the typical profile of heroin dealers.

While it is entirely possible that this couple was dealing heroin, there is an equally likely alternative scenario that could’ve unfolded like this: police acted on bad information from an unreliable informant—which happens all the time—and then raided the home.

When the couple saw four plainclothes officers in their home—who immediately came in and shot their dog—they likely went into fight or flight mode. Tuttle opened fire, likely thinking he was the subject of a home invasion and Nicholas may have tried to disarm one of the intruders who she thought was trying to kill her.

      SMH

      I really have no words.

I will never understand why judges sign warrants to allow a home to be raided based on an “anonymous tip.”

In this day and age, you would think that these folks would think these things through a little more and verify the info before they acted instead of rushing off to be cowboy cops. I don’t like heroin dealers either but I’m getting real tired of these “cops raided the wrong house based on a anonymous tip” stories.

A judge cannot order a warrant on an anonymous tip. Unless there is verifiable independent evidence of what the tipster states.

Legally an unsubstantiated, anonymous tip is insufficient cause to conduct a raid or get a warrant.

I don’t know what the hell happened here but nothing good and likely nothing lawful.

Absolutely . Who wouldn’t shoot if plainclothes people enter their home, guns hand and shooting their dog?

I would consider it a home invasion.

I read your post below about the raids happening so often that this could just be sheer sloppiness on the raiders part.

          Frightening, sickening and shameful.

            Another take:
            https://www.texasmonthly.com/news/a-no-knock-raid-in-houston-led-to-deaths-and-police-injuries-should-police-rethink-the-practice/

There are multiple incidents around the US of thugs using a phony police cover to delay homeowner response on a home invasion and police seem to love that television smash-and-dash visual of a SWAT team busting doors down and making a dynamic entry, a tactic that should be reserved for only the most potentially violent of situations.

I remember a DEA case (I believe it was DEA, could have been ATF) back in the 70s when these warrants were more sparsely used. The raiders screwed up the address, busted down the front door of the wrong middle class DC row house and were met by the homeowner at the top of the stairs who had a legal handgun in hand. They immediately blew him away, no warning, and did an “Opps!, sorry ’bout that, but he had a gun” excuse.
It ain’t every LEA that acts like this but when one does screw up the others feel the need to close ranks and blunt the horror of it. No knocks and dynamic entries have gone from the original limited use to almost SOP, especially when a TV crew is nearby.

Note that HPD has mentioned, as a lead, that firearms were found in the house and the ‘we don’t have confirmation that the firearms were legally bought’ qualifier. Terms designed to slide the perception in a whole nuther direction. This is Texas, damn near everyone has a firearm and ‘legally purchased’ is another red herring – note they do not define what ‘illegally bought’ is. In Texas even a felon, under certain circumstances, by state law can have a firearm in his/her house for defense. If it were a Fed raid they could zap the felon for having a firearm under Federal law but state, county or local police are stymied if the felon has a firearm in the house legally under state law. As neither deceased homeowner was a felon they can legally possess firearms.

If the LEA keep up with these no-knock dynamic entries there’ll be more of these. Their leaking that the couple had an extensive criminal path was particularly troubling, it means they were trying to CYA or or they really didn’t do an in-depth pre-raid work up.

(pressed wrong key) I’m talking to a friend still in the bag and it’s going thru the grapevine now.
In a city that has a high crime/drug use rate you have a number of these raids a day and after a while procedures and common sense leaves and you just ‘do’ them. At some point that lack of procedure catches up to you.

There are frequently dogs in drug houses
used as guards or alarms and shooting themoused to be an IF they attack issue but now it’s getting…looser. I can tell you that if someone in civilian clothes kicks in my front door and comes in shooting I’m going to be returning fire and not waiting for a formal invite – appears that’s what happened here.

    10 points of happy.

    1) The mom who brought her new born twins to a firehouse to surrender them. She didn’t abort them, she didn’t abandon them, she didn’t murder them or sell them to perverts. She gave her babies away because she loved them. .

New mom praised for giving up twins at California fire house, ‘no questions asked

    https://www.sacbee.com/news/nation-world/national/article225323735.html

    2) A freshly sharpened pencil with a very pointy tip. The kind of tip that is so fine and delicate anything other than a whisper of pressure snaps it right off.

    3) We really do have the funniest people on our side.

Last night at 1am I was in DC walking along 3rd street when this Latino woman wearing a ski mask runs up to me & calls me a capitalist pig, grabbed my wallet took 70% of the cash in it, stuffed a government voucher for cheese in my pocket. She then shouted “AOC country baby! “__Terrence Williams

    4) President Trump allowed the government shutdown to show the American people exactly who the democrats are at their core. He even said as much. I believe he goes on the offense very soon. It is going to be glorious.

I see a shift in his behavior/words, his strategy hasn’t changed we are just entering a new stage of his negotiating.

To quote our president “The table is set.” 😎

    5) Last year my friends adopted daughter Julia gave birth to her first child. When I saw a picture of Julia and her son in the hospital I realized that this is the first time in Julia’s life that she could look into the eyes of someone who she is genetically connected to.

    6) From Ralph “Let the baby die” Northam’s Eastern Virginia Medical School yearbook page. I don’t know if was the case with Northam’s yearbook but you can pay extra money and get your own page with your own choice of photos in yearbooks.

7 Speaking of Gov. Ralph Northam, we have a national treasure in James Woods.

This is what Woods had to say about Northam.

Whoops! This piece of sh*t can murder all the babies he wants, and Democrats don’t bat an eye, but this is what will end him forever. God, life is sweet. I’m sure @CNN and the @NYtimes are canceling weekend leave to brainstorm on how to bury this debacle…

    8) Hillary Clinton may run for a humiliating third go at the presidency.

    9) South East WI is headed toward 40° today !

    10) The Chicago shoreline.

I have the worst mail service, I think. I have not had mail delivered for three days now. I know they suspended service because of cold, but that should have been one day. It will be 40 degrees today, so I wonder if the groundhog mailman will come out to deliver! You may wonder how I know that I have mail, and that is because I get a USPS email alert every morning, telling me what mail and packages I have that day. Do you have similar problems with mail delivery?

I had a problem with UPS this week too. The carrier reported that there was nobody to accept delivery and that I was a business address! I called UPS, telling them that I have a doorbell and a dog, and I was sitting 10 feet from the door, so I was sure nobody tried to deliver at my address. They promised to have someone call me within an hour. Well, that didn’t happen and I didn’t get the delivery until the next day. I left a slightly sarcastic note on my door with an arrow pointing to the doorbell. The carrier left the package on the porch, rang the doorbell, and ran for the truck!

I sent a gun part off for service and the PO managed to break a MACHINED ALUMINUM HANDGUARD! The handguard is thick and was packed with some padding but the end was crushed. I took the pix a claim requires and tried to duplicate the crush with a hydraulic jack. It took a LOT of pressure from the jack to duplicate the crush and that leaves me wondering how they managed to cause that much damage.

Due to not getting the part back for two weeks, being unable to download the required claims forms due to internet access problems, the local POs not having the form and it taking two weeks to get the forms mailed to me by the PO I missed the 60 day deadline for an insurance claim so now I have to write in and get, I hope, an extension from the PO. No more USPS, FedEx and UPS are a bit of a pain to get to but they’re it from now on.

For the benefit of those who don’t know about it, from Wiki:

This lighthouse, with Biddle’s Point on Mackinac Island, forms the finish line for the annual Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac, run since 1898.

The lighthouse was prominently featured in the 1980 movie Somewhere in Time.

The lights location makes it “somewhat of a wilderness” but it has been depicted in sculptures, and even bird houses. Because of its picturesque color and form, and its location near Mackinac Island (in the path of passing ferries) and the Mackinac Bridge, it is often the subject of photographs, and drawings. Even needlepoint illustrations have been created. It has long been the ongoing subject of postcards.

A children’s book written by Robert A. Lytle and Karen Howell is titled Mackinac Passage: Mystery at Round Island Light.

Typhus Epidemic Worsens in Los Angeles
A veteran city prosecutor is among the latest victims.

A veteran Los Angeles City Hall official is one of the latest victims of an epidemic of the infectious disease typhus that continues to worsen across LA County.

For months, LA County public health officials have said typhus is mainly hitting the homeless population.

But Deputy City Attorney Liz Greenwood, a veteran prosecutor, tells NBC4 she was diagnosed with typhus in November, after experiencing high fevers and excruciating headaches.

“It felt like somebody was driving railroad stakes through my eyes and out the back of my neck,” Greenwood told the I-Team. “Who gets typhus? It’s a medieval disease that’s caused by trash.”

Greenwood believes she contracted typhus from fleas in her office at City Hall East. Fleas often live on rats, which congregate in the many heaps of trash that are visible across the city of LA, and are a breeding ground for typhus.

“There are rats in City Hall and City Hall East,” Greenwood added. “There are enormous rats and their tails are as long as their bodies.”

Normally I wouldn’t care and don’t really like dealing with dumb people on FB, but our state has enough issues without some naive people hearing them talk about Life and Liberty and not realizing what their idea of Life and Liberty is.
I already dealt with her craziness claiming she personally believed abortion was murder, but it was a tough decision for a woman to make and one the government had no business being involved in. I told her they needed to just let the woman who shot three of her kids, killing two of them go. How dare the government get involved and try her for murder and attempted murder. She told me that wasn’t the same thing. I asked her why not, did she personally believe it was murder? Why force her beliefs on that woman and take away her freedom, maybe it was a tough decision for her to make. She told me it was apples and oranges. I asked her when murder was not murder? Maybe she would have preferred her to poison them or rip them apart limb by limb.

Yes. They always equivocate when their words are given their objective meaning. Abortion is killing.

They’re all a real work of art. They want everyone to do as they please, from drugs to prostitution, to forcing young girls to share a bathroom with a mentally ill boy in a dress to murdering babies.
Someone commented to them on the same post I’ve been on with them and told them after reading through all the comments and not really knowing much about Libertarians that they see they’re just like democrats and hate Christians.

That lady and others like her is why I’ve been doing it, if you don’t get them expanding on their true beliefs, their rhetoric sounds pretty good because they try to gloss over the social issues and just want Life and Liberty for everyone.

I agree you never know when seed will be planted. Some people I refuse to talk to as it is just spitting into the wind. But some you can see a glimmer in them.

To be honest most of these Okie Libertarians on FB I see no hope for, but others who read these local political groups can see just how nutty they are.

Yes. Bolstering people who have difficulty defending their pro-life position against more savvy, deceitful pro-abortionists is one of the benefits of debating with the hostile abortion rights advocates.

I think people are starting to see. I just went to look at the local political group and one of the Libertarians had posted a meme saying Libertarians do not want special rights for certain groups based on their religion. Libertarians want to protect natural rights for all people because they are human beings.

Comment after comment was related to killing babies, support for Islam, non-support for Christians.

Our state is screwed up right now, but the majority still don’t support killing babies and even if my favorite candidate didn’t come out of the primaries his message of abolishing abortion in Oklahoma took hold. Libertarians don’t like that, which if they were all about Constitutional rights as they say then they would be for our state saying abortions are illegal in this state.

I am friends with a couple of young men on Facebook who are Libertarians. I find it strange and sad that their social views are so undeveloped and ignorant because boy, do they know their stuff when it comes to the Constitution and history and government.

Some of these around here do have good views on the fiscal end of government and too much overreach of government, but they’re so against morals and values that what they would do if ever given power I’m afraid could rival the democrats.
Ron Paul is their idol, but they’re like a Ron Paul on steroids.

I always say that it is murder when arguing about abortion. Because it is.

I use the word kill. It is not worth it to me to say murder because murder is a legal term and it is easier for me not to get into technicalities. I agree that it is murder, an immoral, legal law is not a law it is an abomination.
