10 beautiful things about today π
1) Unshakable faith, hope and love.
This headstone was designed by the boyβs father to celebrate his freedom from his wheelchair.
“Free of his earthly burdensβ
2 ) Wooden clothespins.
3) Artist Young-sung Kim and his oil painting.
4) The humorless Left continues to give itself conniption fits.
βStill no sign. 6 days left until Ruth Bader Ginsberg has to make her official appearance at @realDonaldTrumpβs State of the Union.β__Sebastian Gorka
Asked about his tweet, Gorka told The Daily Beast to βgo outside and lick a metal street lamp.β

5 )Wooden clothespins.
6) Drinking fountains.
7) Pizza delivery.
8) I wonder what President Trump on the offense is going to look like. That alone makes me smile.
9) 35 years.
How long has βJeopardy!β been on the air ?
10) Every day we are living the Impossible Dream. It is the call of our time.
The Impossible Dream
To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go
To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star
This is my quest to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right
Without question or pause
To be willing to march
Into hell for a heavenly cause
And I know if I’ll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I’m laid to my rest
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
The fight the unbeatable foe
To dream the impossible dream
And the world will be better for this
That one man, scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star
To fight the unbeatable foe
To dream the impossible dream
What am I willing to do to save America?

Jeopardy! only 35 years old? I remember it from 50 years ago; my mother would write down the Final Jeopardy question to tell me when I got home from high school. I still remember one of the best questions ever: Any one of the four states whose state capitol begins with the same letter as the state. I immediately named one, but could not name the other three. Anybody (without looking it up!)?
A quick check of Wikipedia says the Alex Trebek version debuted 35 years ago in 1984, but the original version with Art Fleming debuted March 30, 1964. That’s 55 years of Jeopardy!
And yes, I still know all four capitols.

Wow! I didn’t now that. For some reason I thought Alex was the only host.
And without Binging it I don’t know the question to the four states answer.

Good morning, all! This is one year and two days late (and a dollar short?), but it’s a goodie nonetheless. When this happened (January 30, 1968), I was less than a week from giving birth, so I honestly don’t remember the events. Seen on my Facebook feed:
Dan Chesler:
On this day, January 30 in 1968, The Tet Offensive, also known as the Big Lie began. By the end of 1967, the Communist cause in the Vietnam War was in deep trouble. Hanoiβs decision to launch the Tet offensive was born of desperation. It was an effort to seize the northern provinces of South Vietnam with conventional troops while triggering an urban uprising by the Vietcong that would distract the Americans β and, some still hoped, revive the fading hopes of the Communists. The offensive itself began on January 30, with attacks on American targets in Saigon and other Vietnamese cities, and ended a little more than a month later when Marines crushed the last pockets of resistance in the northern city of Hue. It not only destroyed the Vietcong as an effective political and military force, it also, together with the siege of Khe Sanh, crippled the NVA, which lost 20 percent of its forces in the South and suffered 33,000 men killed in action, all for no gain. By the end of 1969, over 70 percent of South Vietnamβs population was rated by the U.S. military as under government control, compared with 42 percent at the beginning of 1968.
Josef Goebbels called it the Big Lie, the deliberate misrepresentation of facts and reality in order to achieve a political objective. Itβs been part and parcel of the New World Disorder weβve lived under for the past century, ever since Vladimir Lenin first used a Big Lie to disguise his seizure of power from Russiaβs post-czar provisional government in November 1917, by telling the Russian people he was preventing a coup not perpetrating one. Americaβs first major encounter with the Big Lie, with all its disastrous consequences, started 50 years ago today, when the American mainstream media β CBS and the other networks, plus the New York Times and the Washington Post β decided to turn the major Communist Tet offensive against U.S. forces and South Vietnam on January 30, 1968, into an American defeat, rather than what it actually was: a major American victory. Weβve all lived in the disorder and chaos that campaign set in motion ever since.

All lies originate with the Father of lies and have their root in evil. So many people make lies a part of their daily lives that they are completely blind to the harm that befalls one from lies, and not just the big ones. I am of the opinion that most of us are blind to the big lie because we are comfortable with the small lie.
LikeLiked by 5 people
I agree, but in this case the big lie was purposefully hidden, and the average person just heard what Walter Cronkite said on television. We were all just going about our daily lives.

I was in Saigon visiting when the SHTF. I managed to get a flight back to Qui Nhon but things weren’t so good there either, it took a day to get a flight back to Phu Cat where I was stationed.
When I got to Phu Cat everything was dead silent, no attack or sign of one. Being Air Force there was a pitifully small defensive force, Air Police and a Safeside AP unit but many of us were augmentee forces so, in a rare instance, we were given M-16s and 108 rounds of ammunition. My post was by the main gate – only thing twixt me and any potential them was a raised railroad bed and a thin barbed wire fence. The main gate, about 100 feet to my right, had a tower with am M-60 and a couple of M-16 armed APs and a small force on the ground. We faced north, looking over rice paddies with the mountains immediately on our left. We always sweated the VC/NVA putting the BM-21 rockets with a range of about 12 miles or the BM-14 rockets with a 6 mile range up there and just rain 9 kinds of hell down on us…but they didn’t.
We had our extra ammo – most of us had ammo and weapons secretly stored as the AF didn’t trust its folks with weapons, so most of us had more than the 108 rounds the AF thought was all we needed. We also had k-bars, many a .45 and the AF issued radio that was as large as a lunch box and had to be carried by its handle. We also had a keen awareness that had a determined VC/NVA force have hit us – one man deep with at least 100 feet between positions, our collective butts would have been fodder. Oh yeah, the bosses decided that our areas would stay lit so we had a junior Times Square at our backs.
Luckily there was a small Korean (ROK) Army base just a few hundred yards outside of our wire on the north side. By luck there was a heavy Korean patrol from that base out in the mountains, they’d had a suspicion that something was going to happen (intel had predicted the Tet attack) and were out looking for threats. That night we were out they ran into a NVA battalion staging for an attack and that ROK patrol engaged and fixed them in position while the rest of the ROKs came to the battle. Over the next week they ROKs and our AC-47s decimated the NVA, the ROKs counted over 300 dead NVA and hundreds of blood trails. The AC-47s, pouring a rain of fire that at max was about 6000 rounds of .30 ammo a minute turned many NVA into slippery wet spots and caused many secondary explosions so the total body count most likely ran much higher than the ‘official’ count. It was bad enough that the NVA unit involved was withdrawn ad had to be rebuilt.
Our base was the only major air base not attacked during TET ’68 and it was that small and terribly outnumbered ROK unit that saved the base. Had that unit have hit Phu Cat there’d have been a massacre as there was a pitifully small and not-that-effective force facing the attackers, they’d have gone thru us like grease thru a goose. Those incredibly dedicated and trained ROKs made the difference and were it not for them I’m sure many, if not most, of us wouldn’t be here today. To this day the AF just sloughs off the entire vevent, not giving the ROKs the credit they deserve thought I have an obscure and long out of print Army book on the Vietnam War that goes into it in detail. My kids, grandkids and great grandkids don’t realize how much they owe to that small ROK unit.

A man I knew in the late 1970s would definitely agree with you about the South Koreans. When discussing his experiences in Vietnam he said he always liked to patrol with or be near them because they were so completely trustworthy and would put up a fierce fight no matter the odds.

The ROKs who went to VN were volunteers who were each interviewed and judged for their professionalism before being sent, the Koreans weren’t just sending anyone. They were also paid quite well, I was told they were paid what an American of equitable rank was.
There was also the issue of showing the world, especially the North/Communists that they weren’t the same ROK army that was overrun by the North in 1950, it was Asian pride being regained and their sending a message to the North and China.
Their professionalism showed, when there’d be a sweep for VC/NVA the Americans left holes in their ranks wide enough for a elephant to walk through while the Korean’s lines were so tight a roach had problems not getting caught. Our Koreans were charged with route security on a stretch of Hiway One and

…and a stretch of Hiway 19 between QUi Nhoh and Pleiku. While I was there they never lost a convoy and they managed to reverse ambush a bunch of NVA. If we had to drive Hiway 19 and we had Koreans with us it was like a day at the beach,

You remember the 1992 Rodney King Los Angeles riots, right? Some folk were surprised how readily the South Koreans defended their properties with handguns from the roof tops.
I recall at the time relating to some co-workers that story about the ROK soldiers’ expertise and tenacity during Vietnam my friend told me about.

The Korean shop owners have been defending their stores from black citizens long before Rodney and long after. I don’t know why Koreans set up stores in poor black areas – the black residents say to cheat them – but they are constantly losing merchandise to theft and getting robbed, assaulted and insulted.

Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles contains a large part of Koreatown. Fairfax was traditionally a Jewish neighborhood from both north and south of Wilshire Bl. down past Pico Bl. and was when I moved to L.A. in 1963. It later had an influx of Koreans,Hispanics and blacks. I don’t remember the last time I was over there, probably in the mid-80s.
As I’m typing this, I DO recall specifically where I was the last time I was on Fairfax and that was at LACMA on Wilshire Bl. I wanted to see a new exhibit but my visit took a strange turn.
I was waiting for the exhibit to open and saw this Beagle standing just inside the gates. Thinking that was really weird, I asked around and discovered no one knew where the dog came from. So, I couldn’t leave him there. I’d come to the museum via bus because parking is such a pain in that area…and it must have been winter because I had on a coat with a belt.
So, off came the belt and after running it under his collar we began walking west on Wilshire to Fairfax and then south on Fairfax to where I knew I could purchase a leash and call someone to pick me up. The animal shelter was still open and so I took him there.
The next day I spotted an advert in the Lost Animals section of the LA TIMES, called the number to say where their Beagle was and they later called me back to say they’d picked him up and to thank me.
Signed…the Lucille Rescue Mission.

I had a Vietnam friend that lived in the Fairfax area, went to visit him in the mid-80s. We ate in the Korean places where we were the only ones who spoke clear English. It was a throwback to VN when we’d work with the ROKs and eat in their mess hall. The ROK cooks would be frantically tossing meat cuts around on their grills – we’d refer to the aerial meat displays as ‘unidentified frying objects’.

I accidentally came across a Korean restaurant while visiting my son and his wife. They hadn’t been to it so we stopped. It was a huge and upscale one and the owner was on-site. He walked by our table, he talks to customers, and saw I’d ordered things most round-eyes don’t and asked if I’d been to Korea. I explained that I had and the times I’d been there and worked with the ROKs.
For the rest of the night we had free Soju…my son’s first experience with what is said to be the world’s most widely drank booze.

Today’s painting is appropriately titled “Cold Weather” done in 1929 by the New England artist Aldro Hibbard who is famous for his winter paintins that he actually painted outside in the cold winter weather. He was one “hardy New Englander” as they used to say.
Here is a photo of him painting in the winter
I read an article a few months back about how he kept the paints warm enough, but now where did that article go?
Of course keeping himself from freezing was another problem
No, that’s not how he died – I think.

He went out to shovel a couple of inches off their short driveway, got about half of it done, got too cold and had to go back in. Now, this young man is no wimp when it comes to the cold and he has lived above the Mason-Dixon Line for the last 13 or so years, so he is acclimated. But, -12* must be really cold. LOL

I am listening to President Trump speak. I get the sneaking suspicion that this demand for money from Congress may be a ruse. He is saying they are already building the wall and they have plenty of money. Maybe that isn’t exactly what he is saying, but what if fighting with Nancy is just to get her to show her true colors as an obstructionist?

This is so horrible, I only made it half way through. But, when I get myself collected, I will watch the rest.

“Miles Away”
Lead singer: Kip Winger
So this is love, or so you tell me
As you’re walkin’, out the door
The months go by, and I know for certain
It’s not the love, I’m lookin’ for.
Sometimes, just for a moment,
I reach out, hope you’re still there
Miles away,
No, you’re never turnin’ back,
I just can’t wait anymore
Miles away,
Nothin’ left of what we had,
Just when I needed you most
You were miles away
It’s hard to tell, what you’re goin’ through
You kept your feelings locked inside of you
Open your heart, and chances are
What you’re feelin’, I’m feelin’ too
If only, just for a moment
Hold on, to the dreams that we had
Miles away,
No, you’re never turnin’ back,
I just can’t wait anymore
Miles away,
Nothin’ left of what we had,
Just when I needed you most
You were miles away
When times were tough, and you were down and out
Who was there by your side?
Now you’ve gone, I’m so tired of bein’ alone
With only your promises
The loneliness just fades away,
Thoughts of you, just memories
No cryin’ now, for what we’re missin’
Time won’t forget what you meant to me
If you hold me, just for a moment
Hold on, to the dreams that we had
Miles away,
No, you’re never turnin’ back,
I just can’t wait anymore
Miles away,
Nothin’ left of what we had,
Just when I needed you the most, whoa-oh
Miles away,
No, you’re never turnin’ back,
I just can’t wait anymore
Miles away,
Nothin’ left of what we had,
Just when I needed you the most
You were miles away

Dem governor under fire for shocking racist yearbook image
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s difficult week ends with another scandal on the heels of his controversial comments on late-term abortion. An image on Northam’s medical school yearbook page shows two men, one in blackface and one in a Ku Klux Klan robe and hood; Peter Doocy reports.

And the lefties/progs/libs/dems call our President racist, yet he would never have even thought of posing for such a photo in the first place…let alone be proud to display it on his yearbook page.
We all know Donald Trump has lived his life as a tolerant man when it comes to race. That the Dems accuse him of racism is anger-making for those of us who know the truth and are fully aware of the various awards and accolades he’s received over the years for being an unbiased man. Yet the Dems are proud to have racist bigot Stacy Abrams give the rebuttal to the SOTU after she’s used that false meme for years against President Trump.
They all need a comeuppance. May it come quickly.

Well, this is interesting. Talking heads are asking how this was missed during the election by people who search for things in their background. My opinion is that it was NOT missed. It was stored away in case they needed it later on. We keep asking why these guys don’t do what we vote them in to do and it appears maybe they are being blackmailed. Well, maybe that is exactly what is going on.

I read somewhere that the pic has been floating around for a while now.

Yes. That is one reason I think they were holding it for blackmail like this, in case they needed it.

Oklahoma: Hamas-linked CAIR enraged as judge dismisses Muslimaβs lawsuit over having to take off hijab at courthouse
January 31, 2019 by Robert Spencer
Jihad Watch reported on this story several days ago, but this Tulsa World article has much more detail about the case. This looks as if it is yet another instance of Hamas-linked CAIR trying to trump up βIslamophobiaβ and fabricate an βanti-Muslim hate crimeβ where none exists; actual such cases are so thin on the ground that they have to resort to these fabrications in order to buttress their ridiculous claim that Muslims in the U.S. are subjected to routine discrimination and harassment.

I don’t hear as much about CAIR and their latest victim status these days. During the 8 years of Obama they constantly were in front of a camera.

The more I learn about Libertarians or at least our state’s Libertarians, the more convinced I am that they are ex-democrat potheads without any morals who don’t want to pay taxes.
They’re too dense to comprehend all of their pet social issues are violating someone’s rights. A baby who doesn’t even get the chance for life, a Christian baker forced to bake a cake for a gay wedding, a public employee or a student in a public school who is forced to share a bathroom/locker room with the opposite sex. An illegal who is murdering a citizen, getting an education with taxpayers’ money along with different rules for them than a citizen to attend school, the job they took away from someone else, the business they can start without the same requirements a citizen has. Then the one that really confuses them is they claim Constitution but don’t want the main thing the Constitution delegated to the federal government, which is to protect our country. A secure border doesn’t do that they say.

Agreed. Evening Michelle.

Good evening. I will give them some credit, the majority of them don’t start calling names. That probably though has more to do with the local group blocks anyone who does so.

lilbirdee12βs prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Col. Flynn:
Prayer to St. Michael
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
