Remembering What is Difficult To Remember

This is a repeat post, in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

One day at a blog most of us know well, we were visited by someone who wrote,

I would encourage those who believe anything negative about Hitler to please have an open mind and do some further study.  We are lied to about almost everything these days.  Carolyn Yeager is a good source for this topic.

Today is a day to remember – and to remind others – the horrors that were carried out by people who, at first glance, looked like you and me.

The Holocaust happened, and it could happen again.  There are many times in history when the mass killing of human beings took place as a result of political upheaval.  Genocide is the organized destruction of all or a significant part of a racial, ethnic, religious or national group. Well-known examples of genocide include the Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, the Bosnian genocide and, more recently, the Rwandan genocide.

Today, however, we are talking about the Holocaust brought about by the Nazis of Germany, and their supporters in Germany and other countries, during the period preceding and during WWII.  In the case of the Holocaust, it was mainly Jews who were vilified, marginalized, and murdered, although other political opponents, and other groups, such as Polish Catholics and gypsies, were also put into ghettos and concentration camps, where they were starved, subjected to hard forced labor, and where they died or were murdered.

While wandering the Innertubes, I happened upon many, many, videos showing film footage taken during WWII, particularly film taken by American troops at the time of the invasion of Germany and Poland at the end of the war.  There are those, like our visitor, who have been convinced that this Holocaust was a hoax (that’s what they call it).  For the rest of us, I offer this film which describes the history in Europe that culminated in Hitler’s Germany, and what happened during WWII.  It is called The Path to Nazi Genocide.

Here is video of film taken by the United States Army during the closing months of WWII:

These films were made to document what was found, and shown in theaters across the United States so that our citizens were made witness to the evil deeds committed in the name of German National Socialism.

If you have interest in this topic, another good source for information is the website of The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

This must NEVER happen again.

Young people these days should be watching this in school, but I bet a bunch of “progressive” teachers would think it was inappropriate.

To be completely cynical here…today’s socialist/sharia-loving-without-knowing-what-it-is school indoctrinators (I won’t give them the dignity of calling them teachers) would probably shrug their shoulders and say Hitler had a point…along with giving high-fives to the imam jihadi running the local mosque.

What! The stinking NAZI-sympathizers likely wanted the shoes for the general populace, just like the SS ordered the clothes, eye glasses…everything…be left outside the gas chambers so it all could be cleaned and re-used by German citizens.

It’s been a while since I’ve viewed any actual WWII films or photos of the concentration camps, the trains taking the people away, or anything to do with NAZI atrocities. In the past there wasn’t a single showing of any TV or feature film documentary that I failed to watch, feeling somehow I owed it to the victims to try to vicariously participate in their plight.

I don’t know if I’ll start viewing them again for it causes such a distress to well up in me knowing that this horrible era could have been stopped many times by a judge here, a law there, an overriding compassion and concern for human beings adversely affected, and a permanent jailing for treason of Hitler and all his henchmen by the German government. There were dozens of opportunities which were lost due to the thinking “it will pass” and “the German people are too civilized.” Yeah, they civilized themselves right into hell.

And I don’t want to spend my remaining years being tempted to hate anyone. I have to keep reminding myself….

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”

Final dialogue of the ending scene in WINDS OF WAR, episode 7…Captain Victor Henry looks up at the sky and says…

“Oh, Lord, in a world so rich and lovely why can your children find nothing better to do than to dig iron from the ground and work it into vast grotesque engines for blowing each other up?

Is it because Abel’s next door neighbor was Cain?

Is it because my enemies make deadly engines and I must do it better or die?

Maybe the vicious circle will end this time.

    Maybe not.

Maybe it will take Christ’s second coming to end it.

    Maybe it will never end.

Father, it’s 1941 and I know this, until the life is beaten out of the monster Hitler the world cannot move another inch toward a more sane existence.

There is nothing to do now but win the war.”
