    Morning Everyone!
    Here are a couple of early flying machines inspired by butterflys and birds

    …and here is a beautiful painting by W.T. Benda for Life Magazine in 1923. I love how he shows the iridescence in the fabric and part of the wings.

    Somehow however, I don’t think those wings are going to be enough for flight.

    Here are the next set of two flight into Egypt paintings:

    I had to put some pink in the Baby Jesus’s face because for some reason the face colors were off, (I think too blue, but I could not fix it with what I have), but I liked this painting, orginally by Theaker, anyway

    Here is another beautiful painting, but sadly it is not signed. I especially like the angels going with the Holy Family, and the lilies symbolizing innocence and purity.

    How ‘Vice’ Explains Trump’s Appeal

    The character of Condi Rice does not utter a single memorable line in the new Dick Cheney biopic Vice. Yet for some reason I keep dwelling on her. A large portion of this film is devoted to decisions made by the Bush administration after 9/11—torture, Guantánamo, surveillance, etc.—and the 2003 invasion of Iraq. I know, from my time in the Bush White House, that Rice, who served as national security adviser and secretary of State, was one of the people closest to George W. Bush during his presidency. She played a major, if not crucial, role in all of these decisions. But she might as well be a piece of furniture in the film.

    Did the filmmakers forget about her? Does woke Hollywood think women can’t lead? Or did the Rice character simply not fit into its well-worn formula for political movies: Bad guys = white + male + conservative?

    The real answer is more instructive. A true depiction of Rice’s influence would have exposed the great lie that holds together this entirely unnecessary film as well as the progressive view of the Bush years—that Bush and his team were puppets of a sinister cabal controlled by the movie’s title character. After all, how could Dick Cheney have masterminded every aspect of the Bush presidency, in service to shadowy oil executives whose faces are literally blurred in the movie, if Condi Rice, or Bush himself, played a major role in these decisions, too? How could the 2003 invasion of Iraq have been Cheney’s nefarious invention if the filmmakers disclosed that not only Cheney, but Rice, the majority of Democrats in Congress, a majority of the American people (as high as 72 percent), the film’s lone voice of conscience Colin Powell, dozens of world leaders and even the Clinton administration that preceded Cheney’s tenure, explicitly supported regime change in Iraq as a matter of U.S. policy? Did Cheney, a man who barely says more than a dozen words at any one time in this film, somehow manipulate and/or sweet talk them all? Is he the world’s greatest criminal mastermind?

    Despite its pretenses to the contrary, Vice, of course, doesn’t attempt to challenge—at all—the pat, conventional liberal narrative about the Bush era. You don’t win Oscars that way. So, in that sense, this garbage bag of recycled Bob Woodward/Oliver Stone/Michael Moore revelations is completely unremarkable. And yet in another sense, this film’s existence, coming this year in the Trump era, is extremely important. Because it is a vivid demonstration of why Donald Trump won in the first place—and why he’s got an excellent chance of winning again.

    Vice’s self-congratulatory, arrogant, maddening, mix of half-truths and glaring omissions explains why conservatives believe the “mainstream” world offers nothing for them. It also explains why they are so easily seduced and manipulated by conservative outlets and no-nothing political leaders who at least make an effort to take them, and the leaders they admire, seriously. It is easy for conservatives to believe Trump’s claims that the media and the “elites” despise them. Movies like this, with a narrative supported by a broad media consensus, prove that point. And they tick people off…

      LOL! Ah, yes, have we been “TOLD” by a superior-to-all-you-rubes thinker that President Trump voters are all emotion and easily led toothless white-sumpremacists or some such thing? How tiresome! Does the fact that Politico let him write a review for them cause him to believe he’s on the inside where the un-seduced and non-manipulated reside?

    Since I’m on a rain kick today, just found this…

    Just looked out my office window and the rain has turned to snow…YES! I just may change the room around so that the desk is facing the window and be able to watch the snow coming down better. Good thing I took the trash out earlier. LOL!

    Dogs lit up like a Christmas tree so I went to the door…couldn’t see anything. I told the dogs to ‘stay’ and opened the door a bit to get a better view ans ZOOM, our blond, beta, mild-mannered ghost dog shot out the door. Not pushed past or squiggled, she shot past at full tilt like I wasn’t even there.
    She cleared the distance from the dor to the edge of the porch, I was right behind her, she turned
    her head to the right, went down behind some concrete plates and immediately came up with a possum in her mouth. I yelled at herb to drop it…and she did. I yelled at her to go back inside…and she did. I’ve never seen her react to commands like that before, it was military. I do think we ended up with someone’s hunting dog that was lost.
    I’m not sure if she hurt the possum, it’s moving, it ate the cheese we gave it (2nd possum/cheese reward in a week) and it’s working on some cat food. These things aren’t all that brilliant.

    We went today to see Mary, Queen of Scots. My friend loved it. Of course, she doesn’t know anything about the history. I know a little, but not much. This was definitely a Hollywood PC Woke type movie. It had a very diverse cast……….which you would not have actually found in that period of history. There were sex scenes that I think should have made the movie “X” rated. Of course, they are totally obsessed with sex in Hollywood, etc. When I read some of the reviews, I discovered that Mary was raised in France and would have had a French accent. She had an Irish accent in the movie which didn’t bother me because at the time I was watching it, I didn’t realize that. Queen Elizabeth was portrayed as a whiny, scared woman who wanted to be a man, or something. I doubt that, since she ruled for something like 44 years. I think she had to be pretty together and strong.

      Mary was sent to the French court by her mother when she was five years old. Hollywood always screws up history. They believe that their SJW views are more important, and change the “story” to comply with their beliefs.

      Better known as revisionist history. You know, movies had moved from fantasy telling of history (most movies made in the 30’s to 50’s) to something more like truth, and seem to have returned to fantasy.
