Today I was rummaging around BrainyQuote and ran across this quote attributed to Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

It was actually written in 1926 by Will Durant, in “The Story of Philosophy: The Lives and Opinions of the World’s Greatest Philosophers” as he was summing up some of Aristotle’s thoughts. Whoever said it, I like it.

It’s difficult to know today what is a correct attribution and what is not. I also read one where Hemingway was supposed to be using the “you know” tacked on the end of a declaration of his. Now does it sound like Hemingway to use the “you know” in a late 20th Century/early 21st Century manner? Anything is possible, of course..and perhaps he was the originator of the two-word annoyance…LOL!

I had a teacher in school who went to great lengths to stamp out students’ habitually saying things like ummm, hmmm, and any filler words or sentence interruptions back in the day before you know was a thing.

I don’t have those habits to this day, and I would bet most of her students don’t. I absolutely hate to hear people repeatedly put that in a sentence.

When I was a kid there a great big guy, huge rotund man, he traveled with a carnival making and selling fudge. He said that he knew all the fudge that he ate would kill him some day so he used what would one day be headstone as his fudge making slab. The guy was a happy soul.

I’m sorry it has taken me so long to respond. I have been a bit under the weather. I can’t remember the recipe I used way back when, but I know it was either in a Good Housekeeping Cookbook, or Betty Crocker. I think I still have those books and will try to look for them this week, but I have a few appointments coming up and things will follow from there, but I won’t forget you and I will get back to you. I did find a video that is very similar to the way I first did fudge, although I don’t recall oiling the pan. I may have, my memory being what it is, but I don’t think so. I then went to a recipe for what I call easy fudge, again in one of those same cookbooks. With that one, you cook the butter and sugar first, then take off the heat and by steps add other ingredients, no milk, it uses the marshmallow cream. Much easier and quite good.

I’m almost positive it was a Christmas cookbook, and I have hunted images and just not sure. I’m pretty sure it had a wreath of the cover. I can tell you the ingredients and the steps, but I don’t remember amounts. Would you like me to do that? Maybe since you cook a lot you’ll be able to figure it? It seems like the amounts ought to be near whatever recipes you use, it simply substitutes marshmallow creme for cream and uses evaporated milk.

Hi, Stella. I’m answering you here because I think down below it will get real skinny.
Here’s what I remember about the recipe, again, without measurements.

Combine sugar, evaporated milk and butter in a medium saucepan and cook over medium heat. Keep stirring. When it comes to a boil, (still over medium heat) stir continuously for 5 minutes. Remove from heat after the 5 minutes.

Here’s the part I don’t remember. You either fold in your chocolate chips then, or you fold in your marshmallow creme. I don’t remember which comes first and which comes second.
After that you add vanilla extract and after that you add nuts if you’d like. pour into your buttered pan or whatever you’d like, then refrigerate.

I really hate that I can’t find that book. They had an easy white chocolate with cherries fudge that I was itching to try. Hopefully I’ll stumble over it one day!

Ahhhh….Telluride again. I was complaining about the 62-degree temps, cloudy skies and general dampness yesterday until I talked to my son in Denver. He was outside in the snow and single-digit temps fixing a hose bib that had frozen and burst.

I spoke with a jeep driver when I was in Telluride. He told me that he left Colorado in the winter for warmer environs, only returning when the snow had (mostly) melted. It’s a beautiful place in the summer and autumn (which is when I visited).

I don’t care what you think about Trump. I would rather a stale ham sandwich be our President than that insane Marxist woman. Even that would be a happy new year. MAESHW again. Eating Stale Ham Sandwiches for the win.

I really hate to be Eyore, but Americans have very short memories. Indeed, their attention span is outclassed by millions of ADHD kids in math classes.

President Trump should probably get a second term. By then if Dems haven’t seduced the ignorant again they will have enough illegals voting and lost ballots, fake ballots, and other means of cheating. They always up their cheating game.

And then there is the educational system, which is really just a massive indoctrination system. Most parents do not want to admit this, so they ignore it.

A lot of my opinions, especially the skeptical ones like these, come from raising my sons. In my direct experience, most parents did not question what their kids were doing, who they were with, and what happened at school, and they didn’t want anyone else to do it and drag them into it either.

If people don’t care enough about their kids to see to the details concerning their actions, whereabouts, safety, and education, they don’t care much for bigger issues. And those kids? Well now they are another more brainwashed and less involved generation, with some exceptions.

However, there were enough of us across generational lines who were sick enough of things to elect Presid Trump. There is always hope, and sometimes we win. No administration has accomplished what he has, with the whole damned Congress and media fighting him. It IS better for the working man. Maybe those who actually work hard and are bringing home a fatter paycheck will fight to keep it.

We need people like Graham to step up and wack some folks a time or two.

What I’m interested in from Graham is that he be an advocate of President Trump, and I believe that he is just that, and I’ll go so far as to say I believe that it is honest support. One thing I see as anecdotal evidence for my bent is that Graham was a hot potato when President Trump announced our withdrawal from Syria and we saw the old Graham/McCain monster rear its ugly head.If Graham was playing a role to get closer to President Trump as some kind of insider saboteur I don’t think that he would have responded to President Trump’s Syria announcement as he initially did.

Do I trust Graham ? Nope. Do I trust President Trump’s people skills? Absolutely.
