Welllll, Czarina made it until 11 PM…long hard day with her patents at the hospital…whoops, she just woke up.
I’m doing dishes, cleaning up a spot where the cat hacked up, giving the dogs their pills and getting them out for their last 2018 constitutional.
Remember how, when you were a kids things were going to be different when you were in high school? Then how they’d be different once you were in college…then when you were out and an adult…then once the kids moved out…?

They started with the fireworks about 2:00 PM yesterday and went to about 1:00 AM this morning. At first the fireworks were just now and then, but got closer together as the day went on. By about 8:00 PM it sounded like a war zone. My little doggie didn’t pay much attention to them when she was inside, but around midnight, when I took her out the booms were so loud it startled us both and she wanted back in.

  12. Happy New Year, Stellars!

Last night in SH was meant to be an outdoor event, with no cars on the main streets even, but we got rained out. That meant my job was packed from 7PM to about 2AM. Thankfully we just got a new guy, and he’s well versed in kitchen work and cooking. It was his second day. It was brutal: I asked Chef, “Is this is what it’s like on a normal summer day?”

He said, “This is a normal SLOW summer day.” It’s a blast, but it’s brutal.

Next three, four weeks will be slow, but Icebreaker Festival is the first weekend in February. That’s another one that packs every place in town where you can eat and drink.

And here’s the most fake act I’ve ever seen (click the “more” link about 3/4 way down):

I had two kids in my class in elementary school in Florida who contracted polio during the school year – talk about a flat panic. Both survived and both had braces on – remember those? – for the two years I was there.
Bets on how many of these diseases that were wiped out in the civilized countries may start making a comeback now that the prog’s plans to allow open immigration with no medical deferments is SOP? Y’all come on in, we can’t get full medical care to our own kids but we’ll sure as hell divert medical attention to y’all.

The problem is that there are fewer and fewer people who remember what happened. That’s one of the drivers of the anti-vax movement. Applies to other stuff too – huge number of people who don’t believe we went to the moon, for example, or who are convinced that the holocaust was a hoax.

    Happy New Year Stellars!!!
May this new year bring us all spiritual, emotional and physical health, and joy 🙂

Here is the Leyendecker illustration that peaked my curiosity about early aviation. I thought “Really – people did this?”

So I looked for an actual photo of a woman in a similar plane, and found this: Aviatrix Ruth Law (r) and Mrs. Robert Goelet Model “B” Wright airplane, Daytona Beach, Florida, 1914

Ruth Law enjoyed one of the longest and most colorful careers of early female aviators. She was so successful that, in 1917, she earned as much as $9,000 a week for exhibition flights. Law enrolled in the Burgess Flying School in June 1912, made her first flight on July 5, and soloed on August 12. She bought her first aircraft from Orville Wright in 1912 in which she became the first woman to fly at night. Later she purchased a Curtiss Pusher. In 1916, Law set three records on a flight from Chicago to New York, and she had the honor of carrying the first official air mail to the Philippine Islands in 1919. In 1917, she was the first woman authorized to wear a military uniform, but she was denied permission to fly in combat. More info can be found at http://www.ctie.monash.edu.au/hargrave/law.html

Here are two photos of her: one on the ground and one in flight. Can you imagine racing against cars, flying through fireworks, and setting altitude and distance records like this!!! I think the only thing keeping her attached to the plane is a strap around her hips and the plane seat!

May we all be able to be fearless not only in the pursuit of our dreams, but in our everyday lives. May God Bless us every one this new year.

Which brings me back to a piece, I think I’ve mentioned this before, of the Smithsonian looking for an extant WWI fighter plane.
It was back in the90s and they found a largely intact one in a barn in the Midwest. They took it back to their facilities and completely restored it. Before they put it on display they thought it might be a great idea to check its pedigree and see if they could find a family member to be there for the unveiling. They dug back and to their surprise they not only managed to track it back BUT found the original US pilot assigned to it – old as the dickens but still alive.
They brought him – totally in the dark about what was going to happen – to the unveiling and when he saw his original WWI fighter restored to its original condition his look was priceless. When he found out it WAS his original ship and not a reproduction his second look was as priceless as his first. Every now and then the government does something right.

    • She didn’t even die in a plane, either. That’s amazing. I wonder if she ever skydived.

In four years she went from buying a plane from the Wright bros, to crossing the Atlantic.

      Flight history is very interesting.

Don’t you love people who don’t think small…who step out and be what they want despite the odds? Inspiring? Oh, yes! Some days I think, “God, how can you put up with your human creation…we’re such mess-ups.” And then there are days when I get a tiny glimmer of why He loves us so.

Benny says he’s from Puerto Rico but he doesn’t live there–too expensive. Someone should have told him it’s too expensive because Democrats have run the island since forever. Plus, voting for Dems on the mainland is gonna make it real expensive to live wherever he does here. Remember that definition of insanity.

They do the same with NOLA, using different angles, pulling focus, different lenses, etc. They have made some major improvements in NOLA, bulldozing a number of projects that were knives stuck into the back of the city and putting in expensive apartment buildings. One thing was the city built a wide promenade with a green space in an old area that was industrial, way back when the city was industrial, that helps keep muggers in shape by giving them the chance to chase snowflake joggers and bikers – right close to the new hospital corridor too!

After writing a whole diatribe about the Dem-run city, I trashed it. Don’t want to be too cynical and insult Michiganders.

Just one question, are the new investors being required to pay back at least a percentage of our tax monies that Obama gave away to the city administrators to tear down old buildings like that McMansion in the 2003 photo?

Actually, Detroit’s government is much better (MUCH) than it used to be. They changed the rules so that city council members must live in their districts, and the mayor (although a Dem) comes from the private sector and did a great job straightening out Henry Ford Hospital prior to running for mayor.

Much of the improvement comes from private sector investment.

I live in Michigan, was born in Detroit, and I will say that most of what you see focuses on the bad and doesn’t show the good that has occurred in the past several years. Yes, Detroit has been a mess, and still is to some extent, but there are improvements. It took fifty years to trash it, so I imagine it would take at least that long to bring her back, if that is possible.

I don’t know anything about Obama giving the city money. If you have the facts, please share them.

I do know that private investment has given a lot to the city – such as buying new police and fire equipment and donating it to the city.

WashPost released a story about NASA’s New Horizon probe taking pictures of a giant rock called Ultima Thule in the Kuiper belt.
Not to let the event go unused the WaPo writers made sure to mention that one of the scientists when joking about the themed pants/top he and his scientist wife wore to the event: “You can find anything on Amazon!”. I’m surprised Bezos hasn’t already purchased advertising space on the next deep-space probe while simultaneously announcing he’s looking for a site in the solar system for the next Amazon fulfillment center.
Maybe NASA can send a deep space probe out to find honest media reporters.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

My little doggie isn’t looking too good tonight. She has a tumor on the side of her anus which started bleeding this morning for some reason. The bleeding stopped pretty much, but tonight she is looking kinda puny. I think she has done very well for all the tumors on her gums and rear and the one in her ear. Guess it is off to the vet’s in the morning. My carpet appears to be ruined. Don’t know how I will get the blood out of it.
