The two below paintings are by Margaret Tarrant and show Mary meditating on the birth of Jesus. I wonder what she, a young woman who was probably in her teens, would be thinking about the most important birth in history, and her part in it.
Have a great day everyone. It was a pleasure to read everyone’s Christmas greeetings! 😉

Good morning, G & C. It does make you wonder, doesn’t it? Mary being so young and the magnitude of giving birth to and being responsible for raising the Son of God, must have been both a remarkable and at the same time, humbling experience.

I know! I was just saying that to DH yesterday. Talk about making a mistake!!!

I can’t imagine her anxiety. I imagine from what I have read and talking to other people, Joseph and Mary simply assumed Jesus was with the caravan of people somewhere among family or friends and it wasn’t until they actually looked for him or wanted to ask him or tell him something they realized he wasn’t in their company.

Yes, that is also how it was explained in my readings of how they could miss Him. It was 3 days (foreshadowing the 3 days of His crucifiction to rising perhaps?)

I’m sure she must have been very afraid. It’s so hard to grasp the weight of responsibility she must have shouldered.

Afternoon Sand&Sea!
Yes as was said in the Bible, she was full of Grace and found favor with God – otherwise I think no way could anyone handle it.

Notice everyone else in the bible was at first frightened when they encountered an angel but Mary was like, hmmm… how is that going to happen as if she was having a casual conversation with a friend, and then the angel explained it and Mary gave her consent, no fear at all is mentioned in her meeting with the archangel Gabriel.

Yes! I’ve read that passage many times, but that is an obvious but overlooked point that in all my reading about it no one else brought up – great point!

Good morning TOG&C 🙂 . I am always amazed at the fact that Joseph worked with wood and nails every time I contemplate the Holy Family. It has been suggested that Joseph would more likely have worked tongue and groove with wood but sometimes I just can’t get my head around little Jesus having a carpenter for His earthly father.

Afternoon Lovely 🙂
Yes – I have thought of why that choice of work for the Son of God’s earthly father. It could not be a Roman, or anything but a Jew for Biblical fulfillment reasons, and didn’t it need to be someone in Joseph’s particular lineage? A carpenter was a common, and middle class line of work – not too poor and not too rich. I had read where “carpenter” also incuded working with stone because of the low supplies of wood in that area. He also was building something, not a money changer or politician. ~ Just my humble thoughts.

Another thought…not mine…Jesus created tables and other household items–perhaps mangers–out of a material He had already created.

What a magnificent MAN Joseph was! He must have been a joy to be around and to love.
The other day I got to thinking about how few times Joseph is mentioned in the Bible, even though he played an extremely significant part in Mary’s and Jesus’s lives. The last time we read of Joseph is in Luke 2:41-52: The Boy Jesus at the Temple
Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom. After the festival was over, while his parents were returning home, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem, but they were unaware of it.
Thinking he was in their company, they traveled on for a day. Then they began looking for him among their relatives and friends. When they did not find him, they went back to Jerusalem to look for him.
After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions. Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding and his answers. When his parents saw him, they were astonished.
His mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.”
“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?”[a] But they did not understand what he was saying to them.
Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. But his mother treasured all these things in her heart. And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Footnotes: a. Luke 2:49 Or “be about my Father’s business”
I found this painting of Joseph and Jesus on a blog with no notation as to the artist. I really like it and believe it shows the love and affection Joseph had for Jesus–perhaps at age 12…

Some politicians are saying that the Holy family’s flight into Egypt is like the illegal aliens illegally coming into our country, but that is not so.
1 – They did not illegally go into Egpyt breaking laws
2 – They had the wise men’s gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to support themselves.
3 – This is the birth of Christ and people directed by God, not people ignoring law, and what is offered to them in their own and other countries to just get handouts here.

Plus, Egypt at the time was part of the Roman Empire, as was Judea. Though Mary and Joseph were not Roman citizens, they could still travel to other parts of the Empire and not be considered “illegal.”
Joseph, being a carpenter, could find work anywhere, too, and would not be a drag on any community.

242 Years Ago, Today—The Battle That Saved the American Revolution
242 years ago, today, December 26, 1776, General George Washington and his army crossed the howling, ice-covered, Delaware River and in the Battle of Trenton, New Jersey, defeated the Hessian mercenaries hired by the British. Washington’s audacious action saved the American Revolution.
Washington was facing a British Army, which was well clothed, and well-equipped, while his army was still in their summer uniforms, many without shoes and short of supplies. His army as well as the colonists were demoralized because of the many defeats and desertions. The Second Continental Congress retreated from New York to Philadelphia. Many colonists had serious doubts about winning the war. Nevertheless, Washington fought on.
In his surprise attack that morning, Washington’s forces captured 1,000 prisoners and seized much-need munitions. 22 Hessians were killed and 98 wounded. Only three Americans were killed and six wounded.
Sensing the importance of his actions, Washington’s password for that day was “Victory or Death.”
But even more importantly, it was reported that a day before the Delaware River crossing, Tom Paine’s new pamphlet, The American Crises was read to Washington’s army. The opening words lifted their spirits, “These are the times that try men’s souls . . . but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.”
As you know, today, America is facing another crisis. We are a house divided. Our Nation’s religious and moral foundations are being destroyed by the Radical Left. And our national security is being threatened by Muslims waging a “stealth campaign” to destroy America from within.
Many politicians pander to race and nationality for votes. As a result, America is caught-up in a tangle of squabbling special interest groups.
The sacrifices of our Founding Fathers and patriots, like Washington’s army crossing of the Delaware, and the generations of patriotic Americans that followed them, gave us the gift of freedom. It’s up to you and me to make sure their sacrifices were not in vain.
This is your moment in history. It is our turn to preserve for future generations the gift of a free nation based on the Judeo-Christian values on which it was founded.

Merry Christmas in a time of persecution of Christians
December 24, 2018 by Robert Spencer
In many countries today, Christians are being kidnapped, imprisoned, wrongly arrested, beaten, and murdered — not because of anything they have done, but because they have dared to have beliefs that are considered blasphemous in authoritative Islam.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
