    Hi all. I hope you have a great day! I stumbled across this today. It was a fun trip down memory lane. I didn’t remember the Quisp or Grenada commercials but did the rest. It brought back a lot of memories. Hoping it restored a few brain cells! haha

    Sitting here, waiting for my lunch to warm, and In turn on the TV. Just starting is an episode of CopyCat Killers and it’s about the Ogden (Utah) Hi-Fi Shop Murders.
    I was fresh back in Ogden from our stay in Florida and the murders were THE biggest thing to happen in the city since the driving of the Golden Spike and anything since. To have mass murders and torture occur in sleepy Ogden, especially perpetrated by black airmen from Hill AFB, was staggering.
    Funny thing was that mt then-father-in-law was a lead investigator on the case as he was a retired USAF OSI agent, was then working with the Davis County SO and the initial evidence was found in a dumpster on Hill AFB – he spoke Air Force.
    Even though the crimes occurred in Weber County it was decided the perps would be tried in Davis County and again my FIL gets tapped to be one of those to provide security for the perps between the jail and courtroom and inside the courtroom. There’d been numerous death threats and there were a lot of local deer hunters with scoped rifles who’d liked to have a shot at justice.
    My then-wife had worked with Dr Naisbitt and I later went to college with Cortney – he was still nowhere near well. My then-father-in-law was in the courtroom during the trial and gave us a play-by-play as the public areas were not only filled beyond capacity but there were lines outside wanting to get in. Orren Walker was the star witness for, as my FiL related, the perps’ lawyers badgered the hell out of him, trying to make it seem as if the hellish torture he went thru left him mentally unfit to testify, they gave him hell. Orren waited until they were done and told the jury that as they were pouring drain cleaner down his throat, as they shot him, as they tried to strangle him and as they kicked the pen through his ear and out of his throat he promised himself that if God let him live he’d never forget the killers’ faces and would testify at their trials. That was it, my FiL said, you could see the jury’s demeanor change as if a light switch was flipped and both the prosecution and defense knew it was all over.
    Like the narrative says, there were thought to be six involved and only three were caught but the two principals were and both got what they deserved, just not enough of it.

      Unbelievable that the NAACP tried so hard to advocate for these men. Not surprising, but just unbelievable that any human being would try to mediate for the perpetrators of such bestial crimes.

        There erre more horrific details to the crime the article didn’t touch, I believe some publications didn’t print them out of respect for the NoK and they’ve been lost in the process.
        The NAACP seemed not to care about the horrors the victims and the families went through, they seemed to feel only for the murdering trash that committed the crimes. One of the murderers was also implicated in the murder of another Airman at Hill a few years before but once the Hi-Fi murders were committed the government shelved the case. The NAACP isn’t much better than the murderers, pimps and thieves the advocate/excuse.
        The perps were still members of the USAF right up until the verdict was read and a representative was there to hand them their discharge orders. Then again those were the dark days in the military where we basically swept the gutters looking for bodies to fill the ranks.

      Apparently a strange quirk of mine, as a kid I read magazine articles about the famous murders of the 1920s (Actor Fatty Arbuckle’s supposed involvement in the murder of a female hanger-on, the Leopold and Loeb murder of Bobby Franks) and 1930s (Lindbergh baby kidnapping/death, and “The Trunk Murderess” Winnie Ruth Judd). The grisly details were mostly absent from those LIFE, LOOK, THE SATURDAY EVENING POST writings, however. It was pretty antiseptic stuff (just like the war films shown in 1940s theaters where no actual point-of-death was shown, just the occasional dead body). Newspapers at the time of the crime included a lot of facts and sensationalized every detail, though. But even they seemed to have a limit other than the occasional black and white photo of a gangland bloody killing.

      Not so today. Today’s articles are no-holds-barred renderings when it comes to revelations of ghastly tortures prior to death…the kind that don’t fascinate but totally repel. I find reading most anything about recent crimes is way too harrowing and details can get stuck in the mind. Do I really need to know? No, I don’t.

          There are certain crimes in which the initial mention of them breaks your heart. Human beings are struck down by an evil so out of the ordinary in the average person’s experience that the crime is difficult to comprehend. Under those conditions, you make the decision to read what happened, knowing that many of the details will remain in memory for a very long time…also knowing that the victims’ loved ones will never forget anything.

          Such was the case with Christopher Newsom and Channon Christian, a young couple from Knoxville who were carjacked and murdered. A lot of misinformation and ugly untrue details were first presented as “facts” in the case by the local media. The real evidence was horrible enough on its own, though.

          If you are even minimally informed on that case, you know what I mean. Good, decent, personable human beings taken from their families in young adulthood by a gang of sick and evil people who actually thought they’d get away with it but left so many clues behind that discovering their identities was easy.

          The case went un-covered by media outside Tennessee, likely because the couple was white and their killers were black and the PC wolves wanted it kept quiet. How the killers’ attorneys could live with themselves after they tried to justify the actions of the charged, and sully the dead couple’s reputations will forever be a mystery to me.

    Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
